Mon 13th - Fri 17th April 2015
CITY OPPORTUNITIES Are you a care experienced young person who is interested in a career in finance, business or law? If you are, the City Opportunities project is for you. • Spend a week discovering a wide range of careers available in the City of London.
PROGRAMME OF THE WEEK
Eligibility This is a fantastic opportunity open to care experienced young people aged 16 - 24, who hold a level 2 qualification (GCSE or equivalent) or above and are living in, studying in, or in care to the following London boroughs:
• Increase your self-confidence and develop skills transferable to study and work.
• Southwark • City of London • Tower Hamlets • Hackney • Camden • Islington • Lambeth • Westminster
• Develop an action plan related to your career goal.
Why is this project only open to those who are care experienced?
• Work with a personal mentor who will work on your action plan for six months.
Care leavers face considerable challenges when accessing education and work opportunities. They are a target group for the outreach programmes of both the City of London Economic Development Office and London South Bank University.
• Visit City firms and meet the people who work in them.
What’s next? After you complete the week long programme TimeBank will match you with a mentor who will use their skills and experience to support you toward the goal you have set yourself. This may involve helping you build professional networks, complete applications, access internships or work through the university admissions process. How does the Mentoring Scheme work? • Mentors will be matched closely with participants in terms of personality and interests. • Each pair will meet for five hours a month over six months. • TimeBank offers full training to volunteer mentors. Both mentors and mentees are supported throughout the placement to ensure they have a positive experience.
