The Tree resin in his pure station shows a very strong will of behaving in a certain way, without forcing it, i wanted it to keep his will. Taking own decisions, keeping the origin alive, visualising it. For me there was no point of forcing the material. I wanted it to be honest. I had to learn a lot during the process, applying heat in diffrent ways. The melting process and the change in substance mixed with other materials. Finaly i had a catalouge of suitable techniques, rotation moulding and the possability of blowing it while its soft. The following samples show a very phantastic diversity in shape and character.
Experiencing the material
It was an incredible experience being that close to the materials, learning from it and playing with it. Many times during the process it was like would play an instrument. The more i understood the materials character, i learned how to be in interaction with it while i was shaping it.
Reconecting to our origin As in the world around us nature becomes pushed more more behind our places of residence, our primal instinct is seeking for connection. The human organism needs to be surrounded by nature in order to life a full filled life. Citys are completely planed through, this leaves very less space for the presence of real nature. Nature is something which builds up and changes all the time, unable to develop in over structured environments. Nature is loosing his important role in the life of humans.
Reconecting to our origin
The constantly change of the nature, the subtile gradients in behaving and connecting everything around us contains the movement which keeps us in balance with our rational mind. Do we even recognise the important role of this well balanced system, as our whole organism is made and controlled by the same actions. Humans want to trust and to belong. Within the artificial century in which we are living the nature gives us opportunity to reconnect, understand our selfs.
Essence of the nature
During the process i was the tool. Experiencing the material gave the direction, the collected knowledge created techniques and methods. All together was leading to a catalogue of actions, the lamp combines the warmth of the light, an unexpected movement when its melting and through that created smell, the holistic appearance of the materials creates harmony and leaves space for the interaction between the materials. Purpose and the need of each other.
Showing the qualities of the material as well as the need of being surrounded by things which we are not completely in control of. Emphasising the force of nature, it should create a balance between the qualities of the material and technology.
Giving the lamp the opportunity to move, the freedom to expand created a beautiful unexpected shape. Observing the almost invisible movement reaching the stone embodies the most precious skill of the nature. Patiency. With these aspects of smell, movement and appearance this lamp embodies the essential attributes of our origin. It provocates the necessity of being close to it.`
