2014 Grand Prix Live from Melbourne
13th to 16th March
GP FanZone Customs House Circular Quay, Sydney
A History of the Grand Prix in Australia The Grand Prix in Melbourne, Victoria, has for many year’s been the highest-attended event on the Australian sporting calendar. Since it’s move to Albert Park from Adelaide in 1996, the last fifteen years have seen an average attendance of over 350,000 per year over that time. During that period, the legendary Michael Schumacher posted the record of four wins for the Grand Prix, spanning over a period of just five years from 2000 to 2004. The current champion is Finland’s Kimi Raikkonen. With the event being massively popular in New South Wales – and not everybody being able to get to Melbourne for the event - Sienna will be setting up a GP FanZone at Customs House, Circular Quay. The area has foot traffic exceeding 90,000 per day, mainly due to it being Sydney’s busiest terminus for buses, trains and ferries. The huge forty square metre digital LED screen there will broadcast all of the action LIVE throughout the event.
GP FanZone in Sydney The GP FanZone was first set up by Sienna Media founder Phillip Cook, together with Sydney City Council, in 2011. Back then, it began as a small outdoor video screen showing a live feed from Network Ten at First Fleet Park. Since then the FanZone has blossomed, with in 2014 it being relocated to Customs House, Circular Quay (site of the now-famous Soccer World Cup Live Site in 2006) to accommodate the huge crowds. An abundance of additional entertainment and interactive elements have been added to the area to enhance the already-electric atmosphere. This year, there will sponsored display car can sit in it and photograph taken like a
even be a so that fans have their real driver!
Together with the giant forty square metre LED video screen, there will this year be various grand prixrelated displays, a VIP area at the adjacent Quay Bar, known as the “Pitstop Bar”, a KidsZone, interactive elements, competitions, promotions and giveaways, and of course what everyone is there for – the LIVE screening of the entire four days of the Grand Prix via our broadcast partners, Network Ten. As well as live coverage of all the Grand Prix action over the four days, there will also be a live screening of both V8 races at the weekend, along with nightly motor racing movies, such as Rush, Senna and the old 1966 James Garner classic, Grand Prix.
Customs house And Circular Quay There is one thing that the Wellington Sevens can state above all other Sevens tournaments – if not sports’ events in general – and that’s that it sells out almost instantly! 70,000 tickets are sold year in, year out, within literally minutes of their release each September.
Back in 2012, every single ticket for the event at Westpac Stadium sold out within three minutes of them going online. In fact, tickets for the 2014 event were sold so quickly that the system crashed, forcing the WRFU to offer a second round of the last three thousand tickets a few months later, after the system had been restored!
GP FanZone Attractions There will be an extensive number of interactive attractions at the event around Customs House during the week. These will include: • A forty square metre video screen with LIVE coverage of all the Grand Prix action • A “pit lane” with a variety of merchandise for the public, along Alfred Street • A full size grand prix racing simulator • Pit-stop tyre-change challenge • 4 mini simulators • Retro fashions, face painting, GP apparel and photo opportunities
• A VIP area at Sydney’s newlyrenovated lounge and cocktail bar, Quay Bar And many more…
