Pec slapping – The whale raises one or both pectoral fins out of the water and slaps them on the surface. It may look like waving, but is more likely communication and/or play. Blow – Whales expel warm air through their blowhole with such force that it condenses in cool air and forms a distinctive spray. Tail slapping – The whale lifts its tail clear of the water and slaps it on the surface. This may be to communicate with other whales, scare prey, or as a defence. Spy hopping – The whale raises its head clear of the water to take a look at its surroundings. You will often see the upper and lower jaws as it performs this move. Breaching – The whale jumps clear out of the water. This may be to communicate or perhaps to dislodge parasites. 5 - 7 July Bookings: www.wildlifecoastcruises.com.au or call 1300 763 739 kcaB Beach Rd Ber ry’s Beach Rd C oghlan Rd Settlement Rd Church St FESTIVAL EXPERIENCE HUB Berninneit, Cowes Shorland Way entnorV Rd entnorV Rd Summerland Peninsula Swan Lake P yramid Rock Rd RdhavenwNe entnorV Beach Rd Ci r cu t pillihP dnalsI dR Wool a m a R d Seal Rocks WOOLAMAI BEACH SLSC Home of Dolphin Research Institute & Two Bays Whale Project sthiSm Beach Pyramid Rock Grossard Point, Ventnor Punch Bowl Road Swan Bay Churchill Island THE NOBBIES Pop Up Art Show Penguin Parade Visitor Information Centre, Newhaven Rhyll Jetty cruise departure point San Remo Jetty cruise departure point CLAY & CO STUDIO Chapel St Cruise departure points Whale discovery locations Festival Events
