Philip Rivera’s Project 1A Sketch-Space


This project focused on translating sketches into 3d printed volumes. This Passage was the transformation of analog sketches into digital and analog forms. This was a proposal that would cover all bases of digital fabrication.










Philip Rivera’s Project 1A LED Dress


The goal for this project was to create motion reactive apparel. Using the Arduino Lilly,pad a dress could be hardwired like a circuit with conductive thread. Embedded accelerometers allowed the dress to be motion sensitive, and able to react to the model’s movement. Strips of LEDs light up in snyc with the walking patterns of the model

Mirrors 25% Proposal


This proposal pitched the idea of using mirrors as an architectural component to create illusions of space. This early concept focused on transient interior space throughout Philadelphia University. Conceptual prototypes were embedded wall systems with motion tracking mirrors.








Mirrors 50% Prototype


At this point our project shifted towards moving away from a wall system and towards a typology of prototypes. We expanded our definition of transient spaces to be exterior and interior. We wanted to have a more controllable reflective surface. Using the Microsoft Kinect we were able to skeleton track users. This information was combined with Arduino and Firefly creating rotational mirrors that responded to the gestures of the user.

At this point we wanted to expand beyond basic unit of a 3 x 5� mirror. We experimented with using the Kinect to pull more complex/ tessellated surfaces. We also experimented with enclosures such as archways and pavilions. We also further identified more locations on campus where a more specific architectural intervention could occur. We also developed what could be our user input: gestures, light, sound and what kind of transformation could occur.










Mirrors 100% Mobile Unit


For the final prototype we had decided to remove the Kinect and any computer attachments. We wanted to create an inclusive design that was self-contained and intelligent. In order to do this we had to remove the Kinect interface, and switch to a simpler input. We wanted to reimagine the mirror as a kinetic reflection in which the surface was an undulation rather than a rotation. These panels would be easy to reproduce and link to each other. The use of the Photo resistors and LEDs allowed us to create a relay system between each panel.
