Showroom Alam Sutera - Tangerang 3,233 sqm / 7,901 sqm Design 2016 Trimitra Showroom is designed to become a new icon in Alam Sutera through its unique iconic form and spatial programs to give a strong impression both to passerby and visitors. It is a mixed-use development project that comprises of programs such as showroom display area, cafe, coworking spaces, and offices. The contemporary architectural style and the use of natural lighting and open space are dynamic and ephemeral tools for expressing the quality of space through the interpretation of the company and clients’ values. The main concept is inspired from Trimitra’s product specialty, the solid wood furniture. The initial research development of the project started from the analogy of growth ring on wood. The overall form of the building is derived from playful mixing of different slices of solid woods and arranging them based on the proportion of each slice according to the spaces’ relationship with sunlight and circulation. This results in bringing natural daylight in through big openings and allowing air circulation to flow through big central voids.

HOSPITALITY

Hotel Oaktree locates on a contour hills area with view facing directly to a valley and city. Because of its strategic location, it is suitable for a concept of resort hotel. The site has a steep hills contour with a very long and narrow L-shaped site. Thus, in order to meet the programme’s requirements, we must use cut and fill system to get extra spaces. However, we also still left some part of the hill as internal view from the corridor. Here, we designed the mass of the building to follow the L-shaoed site which we spread the programme into three masses: hotel building, club house, and parking area.

Hotel Bekasi Cyber Park - Bekasi 4,445 sqm /13,830 sqm Built 2012 - 2014 Hotel Aston Imperial is a design infill project at Bekasi Cyber Park Mall area. The new hotel building is inserted next to the existing mall. To achieve a design unity, then, the facade of the mall is planned to be redesigned too. The challenge is to design and build on a very long narrow site which every centimeter is counted to achieve high efficiency of available space. The longest side of the building is oriented facing north and south, so the heat of the sun is not directly hit the rooms inside. Glass materials are widely used on the facade as the source of natural daylight. This 4-star hotel provides facilities for guests such as swimming pool, ballroom, and meeting rooms as addition to its already operated mall. The swimming pool has a sunset and city view as it located on the rooftop.

The building is divided into two blocks and connected with a podium in order to maximize the space for room's configuration and views as well as avoiding the bulkiness of the mass if it is designed as one single block. The gap between two blocks is used as a space to bring the sunlight into rooms and allows for natural ventilation. All room's corridors can be penetrated by the daylight.

Office, Education Kendal - Jakarta 248,5 sqm / 490 sqm Built 2009 - 2010

This project consists of office spaces and training classes including a small cafeteria for an institute of property management which has a small site area. It is situated at the corner of a narrow road that faces to the railway in front of it. The appearance of this building becomes a unique attraction compared to its surrounding where this project is located in a straight row of two or three stories height likewise building in the site area. The basic idea came from a cubical form based on efficiency and basic functional programming considerations. Through the formation of abstraction and subtraction the final form evolved. Moreover, the uniqueness comes from the facade’s material (exposed bricks and concrete, rusty iron); which is composed in certain patterns to give texture to the “skin” of the building. Particularly, the facade is also treated as “secondary skin” which functioning to help to reduce the direct heat to inside. The openings’ design considers the natural wind flow which circulates inside the building through its small holes constructed from the bricks combination. The brick wall was designed in a way at some area that was intended for glass windows and the result allows the natural light and wind to enter the room freely and thus creating the ambience or light pattern in interior. As well as the interior, the same idea is applied to the partition and furniture which is using natural and eco-friendly processed rubber wood as the main material.

The community center design considers its users, the deaf and the visually impaired who will do their activities such as joining craft classes, workshops, sports, libraries, and others. The principle is this place does not want to keep the deaf and blind from the environment, but want to bring closer relationships with each other. Openness to wall and roof elements is one way to unite the interior with natural elements outside, as natural elements such as greening, water and soil help the deaf and blind people to stimulate the senses in their bodies, both psychologically and physically.

The circulation of space in this place is made simply so that users will have no difficulty in directing their orientation towards space and buildings. This is an important element in the design of this community center, and it is expected that this place can enliven the interaction between the blind, deaf, community, and nature.

Hakka Cultural Center

Museum Pontianak - West Borneo 3,180 sqm / 1,544 sqm Construction 2017

The design of Hakka Cultural Center is derived from an ancient Hakka-Chinese architectural building known as Tulou. Tulou’s literal meaning is “Earth House” as the basic material components of the house are from earth base, such as soil, rocks, bamboo, and wood. Tulou’s distinctive trait is characterized by its massive hollowed form with a large void in the center, creating a ring offset. The ring offset is inward looking with a circulation corrider inside and railings as barriers to the open space in the center. The façade of the Tulou are made of rectangular windows as thresholds that lie horizontally alligned but vertically irregular.

The interior is subdivided into three main programs: Main Hall, Hakka Cultural Museum, and outdoor space. The main hall adapts the Tulou’s typology and the extension adjacent to the main hall is simply a glassed building. The mixture of the Tulou’s ancient characteristics and modern architecture elements becomes the basic principle of design for this cultural project. The use of bricks as a heavy material represents the rich cultural quality of ancient Tulou while glass represents the light and transparent quality of modernity. Furthermore, the lightness of glass supplements the heavy circular form. The two main materials complements one another by accentuating the beauty and virtue of the Tulou-like form and therefore allows the circular form to be the main focal point of the building. In addition, water element present in this project symbolizes Hakka’s exodus sea voyage to Indonesia.
