“So you want to be a Pin Up Girl?” You see them gracing the pages of magazines, books, and calendars. The gentlemen break their necks when they walk by, the celebrities replicate their styles for red carpet events and you’ve probably pinned them on Pinterest. Why yes, it’s none other then our countries staple of timeless beauty...the Pin Up Girl’s! From classic icon’s like Marilyn Monroe, Bettie Page to modern day icon’s such as Dita Von Teese and The Vintage Doll. They all have their unique versions of the style that never went out of style. You may have imagined yourself dressed up as them, standing in front of the camera just dishing out confidence and femininity. Well, why not? There isn’t a set of standard rules to be a pin up girl. You don’t have to be a 5’10 minimum, 120lbs maximum with a set of knocker’s the size of bowling balls. In fact, you can have stretch marks, cellulite, fit into double digit jeans.

Pin up is one of the very few cultures in our society that embraces women as a whole for all sizes, shapes and colors. If you have a pulse, you’re 75% on your way to being a pin up. The other 25%? Well, that entails a positive attitude toward yourself and others. Save the drama, cattiness and rainclouds for your mama. Can’t forget a vintage inspired outfit, set of heels, winged eyeliner and red lipstick always put the look together! So give it a try, whether it’s a night on the town or you hire a photographer for professional photo’s. I have a feeling you’ll be quite the babe!

From the Desk of David and Shannon

Hello and welcome back to all of our new and loyal readers! Happy New Year! Just like every new beginning I like to start by saying thank you! Everyone here at the Pinups & Hotrods team is so grateful for your time, support and all that has become of our pinup passion because of you! This month we have a little something for everyone. Let’s start with our gorgeous cover girl Amelia Jane. What a doll!!!! This woman is as beautiful inside as she is out. We were lucky enough to meet her at our good friend’s Milltown Car Show with her family. Since then we’ve made it a point to find each other at every event and have become more of what I consider an industry family. My favorite thing about Amelia is that you’ll never see her without a smile on her face. She is confident, positive and caring. Even better, it’s a family affair! Her and her dapper husband Jay are well known to the pinup community, as well as their two incredible mini rockabilly babes! Next let’s focus on our pinup of the month, Miss Naomi Lynn. This firecracker is everything but average! Naomi has been dabbling in pinup for about 7 years. Not only does she dazzle in front of the camera but through pinup she has been able to give back to the community. She is the founder of Bombshells for Boobies, a nonprofit organization that uses pinup photos and merchandise to raise money to help breast cancer patients that can’t afford treatment. She is an amazing soul and her beauty shines through! It really isn’t about what we can do for ourselves, but what can we do to make a difference?! Naomi is so well rounded. Get to know her and you’re guaranteed to be in stitches laughing. New to our magazine is the Pinup Pen by Alexandra Holloway. Waste no time and flip to her article because she has it all in perspective and we can’t wait to share! Wait till you see Dave Hall’s WW2 T-6 next to our own weapons of destruction! This plane is breathtaking and the history that comes with it is unreal. Our gorgeous gals dressed the part and look absolutely stunning in these photos. Pinup model Frenchie Frehley will have you surrendering with your white flag on page 13. You can find the full story and incredible details on page 12. We have so many beautiful Pinups and interesting cars you’re sure to find something you love in this issue. I appreciate the originality of the day at the carnival shoot with Lily Monroe & Fairy Floss. It’s adorable, it’s relative and it’s fun! So much to browse through and so much more to come! We already have big plans for the next issue and a Special Hot Rod Issue due out the end of February, we can’t wait for that release!!! Stay tuned! - Shannon & David Find us on Facebook www.facebook.com/pinupsandhotrodz

“Pinup of the Month”

n n y L i m o Miss Na

Miss Naomi Lynn, 27 year old Southern New Hampshire Pinup, born and raised in Western Mass. Pinup always interested me growing up, I loved how polished and put together these women look while still having a playful edge to them. It wasn’t until 2009 that I really started playing in front of the camera, but I’d have to say with each passing year I feel my look also becomes more polished. My favorite thing about pinup would have to be traveling and meeting new people, along with boosting my own confidence and the confidence in others.

Kristen O’Connor, vintage makeup artist and owner of Frenchies Salon in Wallingford, CT, and I heard about a vintage WW2 plane that might be available to use for a photo shoot from our good friend Jim Wilkos, owner of Cool-Flex Motorsports / Wintec Fabrication in Wallingford, CT while we doing a hot rod shoot at Jim’s shop this past August. Jim and I were chatting in between sets and he just happened to mention that he had a friend with a vintage WW2 plane. Well of course my eyes lit up and kept that in the back of my mind. At the end of the day, I got together with Kristen and Jim and said let’s try and plan a pinup shoot with this vintage plane, Everyone was on board! Jim said he would make a phone call to the owner, Dave Hall. Jim sent me a message on Facebook along with a picture of the plane a couple of weeks later. He said he talked to Dave and he said to call him to plan a date. Dave was totally on board with us using his plane for a shoot. I immediately shared the great news with Kristen. I think we were both jumping up and down. What an opportunity!

Miss Mae

Day two was much better! No wind and 45 degrees, which made for a pleasant day for all We had set a date for mid-November, With the New involved. We had an extra bonus on the second England weather being so unpredictable, we were day. One of Dave’s friends, Doug DeMio, another praying we had good weather for the shoot but the plane owner at the airport, stopped by to see wheels were in motion. Kristen and I made up a flyer what was going on in his 1930 Model A Roadand put it up on social media. We booked 8 girls for ster. The words could not get out of my mouth the weekend shoot in no time! fast enough. I asked if he would like his car to be used in the photo shoot and he agreed. He would The first day was finally here but the New England leave it there for the day and would pick it later weather threw us a curve ball. It was sunny but the when we were done. Another added bonus for wind was blowing 40 miles an hour and the wind chill day two was a 1942 Harley Davidson 45WLA was making it feel like 20 degrees. Luckily Kristen motorcycle, which just added the vintage feel to had a nice warm spot in the hanger to work her magic the whole shoot. with hair and makeup for the girls. When the first girl was done with hair and makeup and changed into her first outfit, we headed out to the plane to start shooting . The lighting was an issue with the wind. I had 2 sand bags on each light stand which seemed to be just about enough. I kept looking out of the corner of my eye to make sure my expensive lights did not go crashing to the ground. We made it through the day without incident and ended up with some awesome shots. The girls were troopers and did not complain about the cold.

12 Pinups & Hotrods Magazine

Kristen and I have to give special thanks to Dave Hall, owner of the vintage WW2 T-6 airplane. Everyone involved was so grateful for this awesome opportunity. Special thanks also to Jim Wilkos and Dennis Dagliere for all of their help with the shoot; carting the girls back and forth, moving the props and just being there all day if I needed a hand. And of course to all the models that braved the cold temperatures! All in all a great weekend, we had some good laughs and got a ton of great shots!

a i l e Am ne Ja Our February cover girl is our good friend, the gorgeous Amelia Jane. We first met Amelia a couple of years back and since then we have had the opportunity to work together several times, always producing incredible images! We hope you enjoy these pictures shot with her husband Jason Lombardi’s 1932 Plymouth Deuce coupe at the New England Shake Up. AMELIA JANE Classic looks and deadly curves make this bombshell the perfect modern day pinup! Amelia Jane first became interested in pursuing pinup modeling after her first photoshoot in 2012. Since then, she has taken the pinup world by storm, working with some of the industry’s best, appearing in several major magazines and even gracing a few covers along the way. A lover of retro style and glamour, this girly girl likes to mix feminine touches like high heels, bows and Cuban stockings with a 60’s rock and roll edge. When she’s not modeling, you can find her spending time with her family and friends, or frequenting local car shows in her ‘61 Plymouth Valiant. She also enjoys traveling, practicing yoga

and cooking. Amelia hopes that by sharing her photos, it will inspire other women to release their inner bombshell! Jason’s 1932 PLYMOUTH DEUCE COUPE is a survivor, last painted and chopped in 1960. It has a supercharged 454 big block Chevy engine with zoomie headers, TCI Street Fighter transmission, Mustang 2 suspension, disc brakes, B&M supercharger, Lokar shifter & rocket wheels. He recently had the pinstriping redone and added brass knuckles and spikes to customize the grill.

“As time goes by, styles change. Fads come and go and what is “cool” changes faster then the temperature outside. I myself have changed my personal style more times than I can count but the one that stuck with me the most and really made me feel confident and myself would be what the world labels as “pinup” or “rockabilly” style, but to me it’s just my style at this point in my life. I can’t think of another style that gives me more confidence or makes me feel more like myself than the one that I have been sporting for almost a decade now. I also can say that I have never been judged or picked on more for simply embracing myself and what I love. The difference in who I use to be and who I am now isn’t the style that I wear, or the clothing and hair choices I make, but the confidence that my personal style gives me as a person and how it allows me to express myself. Adopting the style that I carry has given me a sense of self awareness and confidence I didn’t know I had. When people question how I look, or what I do I don’t get offended or stop being me. That would be pointless. I have learned that no matter what, people will judge you, so why not just embrace who you are and be yourself!

You will be so much happier and that is what truly matters. I love the pinup and vintage style because I’ve seen it give women confidence in embracing themselves like no other style out there! It doesn’t just make them feel pretty, or give them a fun style, but it helps them to truly embrace who they are for how they are with out changing everything that makes them the women they are meant to be. Styles will come and go for the rest of time, but what will never go out of style is the confidence that comes from loving yourself and being happy. - The Vintage Doll

Buttercream Bettie is a fun loving lady from Atlanta, Georgia. She started pinup modeling for fun about five years ago with a friend that does photography. It has quickly become more than a hobby. “I was hooked right away”. Cheesecake is her favorite style pinup to do, being fun and glamorous at the same time. She works at car shows and festivals throughout the Southeast. She has been published numerous times and does brand promoting for several International companies for clothing and accessories. She is working on more projects and hopefully more publications! Buttercream Bettie got her name from her delicious icing she decorates all of her cakes with for her specialty cake business. “It was only fitting to have a pinup name that goes along with my business”. My main loves are my husband and daughter though! We have fun together trying to balance everyday life and good times. Look for more from Buttercream in the near future!

y b u R Rose Car: 31 Pierce Arrow Owner: Scott Miller “My name is RubyRose. I’m 23 years old from Van Nuys, CA. I have had a passion for the vintage lifestyle since I first put my eyes on a photograph of Marilyn Monroe when I was about 8 years old. I just fell for her image and her sense of style. I would watch her movies and play out some of my favorite scenes and get dressed up with these fabulous dresses that I would find in my mothers closet, hoping she wouldn’t find me in them. I design and create most of my pinup outfits. I get inspired by the 1950s-1960s fashion era as well as mixing in traditional Mexican culture fashion. I was 1st noticed at Viva Las Vegas during the car show when I was walking around looking at these beautiful classics when I randomly would get asked if I can shoot for photographers that attended the show. Since then I love and enjoy shooting with all these talented photographers and being able not just to model my designs but as well as all these other amazing vintage house brands. My goal in life is to open up my own pinup girl boutique and watch my creations being modeled by all the beautiful pinup models that have inspired me. I’ve learned so much from all of these great events that I’ve gotten to participate in and I’m very excited for what the future holds for me.”
