CITY X XIONG’AN, CHINA

CITY X VIDEO PRESENTATION https://vimeo.com/456746259 CITY X WEBSITE https://cityx.phoemphol.com/ CITY X LEARNING GAME https://game.phoemphol.com/

How can architecture engage with agriculture while keeping up with changing smart technology to sustainably protect food supplies sufficient to feed everyone? The thesis explores the opportunity for architecture to combine with sustainable practices to produce a self-building and smart city and to provide a stable foundation for human life in a crisis like flooding, wildfire, or famine. The best way to start to reduce the impacts of these crises is to adjust human lifestyles through sustainable architecture. City X is a prototype of city planning that engages directly with agriculture and social communities to afford opportunities for the architectural discipline to build a contemporary city with zero net impact. By 2050, the world is headed for a food security crisis. According to the World Economic Forum, at a population of 9.8 billion, our food supplies will be under far greater stress. Demand will be 60% higher than it is today, but climate change, urbanization, and soil degradation will have shrunk the availability of arable land. Cities built with the goal of sustainable self-sufficiency will be critical to solving this food security crisis. Focusing on Xiong’an, a new district in China, City X will apply a collection of standardized self-development and smart architectural city models that explore possible solutions to food security and other catastrophic precarity: urban agrihood, renewable energy, and water management. City X will propose an “urban farm agrihood” model uniting residential fabric with agriculture from schematic design to construction. It will create a new pathway for living with nature and technology by not destroying the environment. This model is also designed to build renewable energy systems to serve many energies from biology and clean sources that transfer from organic wastes and nature. City X is the choice of future zero net impact city. Lastly, this city is going to take responsibility for wastewater. City X applies nature to help nature by relying on plants to help filter or purify water. All innovations are adjusted to fit into the site surroundings, and the production will be created from the relationship between society and architecture as people participate in the construction of their city. City x is not a utopia but a real urban proposal where new ideas about city systems may be tested and refined. This is Xiong’an. This is the future!

CITY X

City X is a prototype of city planning that engages directly with agriculture and social communities to build a contemporary city with zero net impact. To reach this goal, city X will be built under seven key principles, a culture of community sharing, mass mobility, smart city technology, modular construction, urban farm, net-zero energy, and zero waste systems.

Energy Lab Nowadays, we need an energy to continue our lives. This lab will focus on the clean energy such as an energy from solar or wind. Moreover, the electricity transportation is also a new key that we are looking to make it better. From coast to coast, electricity travels via high voltage transmission lines in order to supply power to our homes. In some parts of the grid in the United States, electricity is transmitted at up to 500,000 volts.3 The need for a high transmission voltage occurs when a large amount of power has to be transmitted over a long distance.

ROBOT COMPANY Atlanta Library

Library as an accumulation of things In the traditional sense, a library is a place where books and various publications are kept, made accessible to a defined community for reference or borrowing. Just like the accumulation of books in the library, our concept of shape origins from anything in our daily life, like a machine, geometry, nature and so on. Library in 2000 and 2019 has been designed in the same that is people walk on an aisle and look for collect books on stacks, in contrast with automobiles, mobile phones, and computers that are launched a new update function and design incredibly, such as Amazon, Tesla, Huawei, etc. Is it possible for us to change the world of knowledge and data, the library, to the 21st-century class, the automatic robots library center? Atlanta automatic robots library center in 2020 is going to take the incredible technology became a part of a system and employees which is opening the new experience of the users; they are going to get more comfortable, fast, and easy with the new future Atlanta library. This library is run by 5 different machine robots, a Dronesengers, a book selection robots, food serving robots, service robots, and cleaning robots, with 2 circulations that service for people and robot system. This building is opened for everyone and especially this system can decrease 80% of hiring because of robots work instead. At the same time, our project is not just a closed aggregation, which is composed of hundreds of objects. Public space is placed on the ground floor to give a chance for users to have more communication, entertainment, and diversification, while the server room is placed on the top which can be arranged by robots.

“PARK’’ Downtown

Los Angeles

In our project, we made the building on top of parking in downtown, Los Angeles. The idea is can we add a green space on top of the hardscape which is opened for the public can come to enjoy the moment after work or on the weekend. The form of this building was created from a Processing program and developed on Zbrush and Rhino. For the site model, it was created from the Agisoft program by taking a ton of pictures in downtown, Los Angeles. This project wants to create more space in DTLA that give an opportunity for the resident can enjoy their lives in the urban.

Site model was created from Agisoft program by take more than 200 of pictures in Downtown Los Angeles.

Function This project focus on increasing the green space plus the parking lots in downtown Los Angeles, CA. Since this project was built on top of the private parking lots, instead of taking the parking lots space out, we also increase the extra green space for the clear air in the crowded city like Los Angeles. The vertical garden was planted in everywhere of the building.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT DOCUMENT

This project is going deeply into the design development process. All product is research and works on how to build the design phase to the construction phase. The primary part of our work will be an animated drawing set in the form of a multi-segment video. Each chapter will address one of the core topics of the seminar and offer different views, components, sizes, descriptions, energies, systems, vantage points, transparencies, materials, colors, scales, and so on. A point of departure will be the genre of multi-dimensional building information modeling. We will work on a set of given topics with a range of digital tools to simulate everything from an assembly of structure and skin, to crowd simulations, environmental and fire simulations, to construction cost and lifecycle cost of a building and the effect of one model onto another

TERMINAL The concept of this building is created from the one model that is designed from an arch structure and a tent structure as the main structure that stands on top of a concrete column and has a cable structure to support on the edge to the center. This prototype can connect in each other easily by a hinge. The long span of building hall is created from the two of the prototype connect together to be the concourse of the airport or the train station. however, if connect more than two by the short side, it becomes the airport terminal or the exhibition hall.

SEXY CHAIR

PRIOJECT DESCRIPTION: In this project, we created new possibilities by combining two mobile modes. The dark wood chair is drawn slowly from the smooth white wall, and then rotated so that people can sit on its surface. The contrast surprises people and makes it interesting. This is a design from details to the whole, the appearance of the chair changes with our mobile system, which let the details generate the design rather than the details assist the design. DETAIL DEFINITION: We combine the slide and rotate mechanisms in this project of movable chairs which embedded in the wall. Slide and ball bearing are directly connected by bolt. The design focuses on how to hide the hardware and to maintain its continuity and integrity. We cover slide with a ‘U’ Shape to make this mechanism a whole. The chairs that come off the wall are seen as part of the wall, and this can be seen in the curves of the wood that are nested within each other.

Challenge Apply the Design and Innovation for Sustainable City (Disc*) of the College of Environmental Design, University of California, Berkeley. Through mapping, research, and design, the focus of our studio’s work will be to envision the future of San Francisco’s architectural environment as a model for a resilient and sustainable urban design. Building off of the city plan for a resilient San Francisco. Solution The grid has historically been used to divide and parcel land into private property. It has been critical to the prevailing conception of land as something to be owned and possessed as opposed to shared. Our project interrogates this history by repurposing the grid for building socially and ecologically resilient in which resources and labor-power are pooled and redistributed. We do this through two design interventions: the “eco-block” and a pedestrian walkway. Each eco-block is intended to be a self-sufficient unit with respect to energy, waste, and water. This will be achieved through an integrated green infrastructure system that operates at the block scale. Private backyards will be abolished and the land will be pooled to create communal green spaces accessible to all residents who live on the block. Depending on their social and economic needs, residents can choose to make these spaces into community gardens, play spaces for children, or recreational facilities. A green pedestrian walkway that extends along the main intersection connects the central corridor to Rossi Playground. The walkways wave-like structure echoes the undulating sand dunes that once covered this region. The walkway integrates itself into the life of the neighborhood through dendrite-like branches that link up to rooftops and streets. From the elevated walkway, residents and passersby can gaze up and down on the built city and reflect on the legacy of the grid. A farmers market will take place on the walkway where residents can sell and barter the products they harvest from their community gardens. are comfortable, that make the electric bill is increasing. It is better if we do not need to pay more for the long term by renovate the building to used the passive design for a ventilation of wind easily, and build the double façade in the south side of building for protect the direct sunlight go through inside the building.

CONDOMINIUM Challenge My thesis’ purpose is to design and research, as a professional architect, the luxury condominium in the central district in Bangkok. Solution In the present day, the numbers of Bangkok residents are increasing, and the numbers of residential buildings, the general factors for humans to live, are reducing. However, Bangkok’s space can not increase to afford the demands of the single house, so the condominium is the answer to increase the living space of the Bangkok residents. They can have their own house that is close to their office. I designed my thesis condominium to combine the architecture of the building and the natural green space into one in this building. First, the building stays with nature by using eco-material and by opening space for the wind to flow through the building to make the rooms have good ventilation. Moreover, most of the public space, the garden area in this project, is designed to increase the oxygen from the tree that is planted close to the room. Second, I designed the big balcony in the unit to protect the inside of the room from the direct sunlight that makes the rooms have a high temperature. The owner also has more space to plant the tree in the big balcony, so they can have a relaxed place out of their room. Third, I focused the design of this project on the actual environment, calculation of the cost and profit, and EIA approval of the building. In conclusion, this project was designed and researched as a professional architect and real estate agent to make sure this project is able to be created.

Bangkok is located in a tropical climate. Therefore, trees and materials can be beneficial to the people who live in this building, and when you see it, you can feel good.

Challenge We designed the new community to connect to the old community for people who have low incomes. Solution Most of the low income people have journeyed by the public transit or motorcycle, so we concentrate on developing the plan the right way for them. We should be friendly to the environment; that is the support idea. We add a passive system that takes advantage of nature to maintain the village’s sewage water before the sewage water is drained out into the public river. Moreover, the residents also get a wicker basket, an object made from sewage water trees (the hydrophytes that have planted in the system), to sell for a common profit for their village.

This house was designed to have a support structure to help the dweller to build an additional room which is the activity that many Thai people like to do to extend their house after buying. The support structure helps the building to not collapse, and it is not difficult to expand the room.

PASSENGER EXCHANGE RAILWAY STATION

Challenge Design the new transit station that has five railways, Northern Railroad, Red line, Red Soft line, Airport Rail Link, and Blue line metro(MRT), routes based on reality and special structures which is widely used at present. The project can accommodate the passengers. Also the service is transferred to the car or public transport to the Northern Bus Terminal.

Solution Mix of special structure (Lattices, Shell, Box-girder, Folded plate, Truss, Skeleton, Column & Beam, Hyperbolic paraboloid, Arches & vault) all in one transit building, and built the building to be the iconic building. Furthermore we design facility and public space that should have for a convenient of passenger in the building that make the project is more realistic.
