Why I chose Phoenix Academy in Perth, Western Australia ... My name is Angela Wilfert and I came to Phoenix in May 2009. I studied the General English Course for 8 weeks. During my studies at Phoenix I improved my grammar and speaking, which was the most important for me. I started my General English studies at a PreIntermediate level and now I’m at an Upper Intermediate level!

My favourite activity in class was conversation because I could practise my grammar and vocabulary lots. I also liked to speak with the other students in my class and learn about their background-where they came from, their family and friends and what places they have visited in Western Australia. Whilst I was enrolled in General English, I also enrolled in the Au Pair program at Phoenix Academy. I really enjoyed living with my homestay family! Each day I would come to school for class and then in the afternoon, I looked after the children from my homestay. The children were really cute and entertaining, and I enjoyed caring for them. I would help out with washing the dishes, playing with the children and setting the table for dinner. My Au Pair Homestay family were very Australian and very nice and hospitable. I enjoyed living with the family, and also had time for myself to go out and see the nightlife of Perth. I visited Fremantle, Cottesloe Beach and the Swan Valley. I also had the opportunity to see the kangaroos and koalas at Caversham Wildlife Park. We also took a trip up to the Pinnacles and over to Rottnest Island. The best thing about Phoenix was to meet other people from lots of different countries. I am also very happy to have improved my English and have lived with a true Australian family.
