Job Club Part or full time paid work placements, combined with full time study. Provides an opportunity to be immersed in the Australian work culture. Example: French student, Benjamin, studying General English, wanted to earn money whilst studying and accepted a position of kitchen hand in a busy hotel establishment, allowing him to study during the day and work in the evenings.

Visa Categories: S, WH Program Duration: 6-48 weeks English Level Required: To commence work, Intermediate.

Internship Full-time unpaid professional training to satisfy both the language and industry experience needs of international students and professionals combining intensive language and/or university studies with a work placement compatible with an applicant’s employment and/or educational history. Example: University of Genoa (Italy) student, Annalisa, graduated with a Marketing degree and wanted to consolidate her English and apply her skills in a marketing company. She studied for six weeks in our Business English course and spent four weeks with a leading marketing organisation - MarketForce.

Visa Categories: WH, SP Program Duration: 6-24 weeks English Level Required: To commence internship, Pre-Advanced.

Demi Pair / au pair program Full-time study combined with part-time work or followed by full-time work within an Australian family, providing total English language immersion during non-study periods. Example: German student, Vera, studying General English, wanted to earn money and live in a family environment and chose a demi pair placement which allowed her to do both.

Phoenix Job Club Program

This program offers access to paid work whilst in Australia. It is an add-on program to any study course at Phoenix Academy and is usually undertaken after completing an appropriate English program. Full-time paid work is mostly available in the country areas (outside metropolitan Perth) with more limited opportunities for fulltime work in the city. Part-time work is readily available in the city. Most applicants will only be eligible for unskilled positions (eg fruit picking, food processors, cleaners etc). Some applicants will be able to be classified as semi-skilled or skilled (eg chefs, mechanics, welders etc) and access higher wages. However, eligibility for jobs will depend on: a.

English competence; and

b.

Recognition of overseas qualifications.

Phoenix Academy will advise on each applicant’s best work opportunities. Applicants will receive a Job Ready Package and Briefing during their study period. For those wanting to work during their study, Phoenix Academy provides access to part-time jobs in the Perth metropolitan area in the evening or on weekends. Requirements:

Minimum twelve (12) weeks of study for Student Visa Holders Minimum four (6) weeks of study for Working Holiday Visa Holders Minimum English language requirement of Intermediate (IELTS 4.0) to start work.

Special Conditions:

• All applicants must undergo a ‘job ready’ briefing session. • Some positions may be available to Pre-Intermediate (IELTS 3.0) students, however this is at the discretion of Phoenix Academy. • Positions are guaranteed for a minimum of four (4) weeks. During this period, should the student no longer be required to work, provided that it is through no fault of his/her own, the student will be offered another job, at no extra charge. • Only Working Holiday Visa Holders can work full-time (up to six months with the same employer) • Some positions may require a National Police Clearance for a fee of $42.00. • Some positions may require special clothing and/or equipment.

Internship Program

This program offers access to skilled/professional work experience in a specific industry segment nominated by the applicant. Internships are normally unpaid however some interns may find employers may be willing to pay them after an initial period of employment. This will depend on the intern’s level of skill and commitment to the job however Phoenix Academy does not make any guarantees with respect to payment. Internships are available in a wide range of industries and each placement is individually negotiated upon demand with an appropriate host employer. Internships are normally directly related to current study or work in the applicant’s home country. Please consult the Phoenix Academy brochure for more details.

• Some positions may be available to applicants lower than the above minimum levels, however this is at the discretion of Phoenix Academy. • Applications will only be processed when full documentation is provided as per the application form. • For those applicants who have already attained an Advanced level of English, study is optional. • All applicants must sign and adhere to a formal internship training agreement. • Applicants on a Student Visa intending to undertake an internship must do so as part of a formal course of study e.g. Diploma of Business.

Demi Pair & Au Pair Program

These programs offer young women an opportunity to combine full-time intensive English language or academic studies at Phoenix Academy with work as a mother’s helper. The Demi-Pair Program is only available during the study period and the Au Pair program is available after the study period is completed. Please consult the Phoenix Academy brochure for more details. Duties / Hours Per Week Demi Pairs and Au Pairs are provided with free board plus an allowance in return for childcare and / Remuneration: light household duties as follows: • 15 hours work and 1 night babysitting = $60.00 per week plus full board. • 20 hours work and two nights babysitting = $85 per week plus full board

• 30 hours work and three nights babysitting = $130 per week plus full board (Note: it is also possible to negotiate fewer hours of work on a case by case basis)

Requirements:

• Minimum twelve (12) weeks and a maximum of one (1) year study at Phoenix Academy. • Minimum twelve (12) week commitment to Demi Pair placement. • Minimum English language level of Intermediate, however, there are also specific English requirements for courses other than General English.

• Minimum four (4) weeks and a maximum seventeen (17) weeks study at Phoenix Academy. • Minimum twelve (12) week commitment to Au Pair placement. • Minimum English language level of Intermediate, however, there are also specific English requirements for courses other than General English.
