The art of Self-Expression
I was born and raised in Iraq.
1
is y name Hello, m
Sh ant I have always had a passion for art! My family encouraged me!
Even though we barely had enough money to live off of, my father would find a way to pay for my art classes.
In Iraq, individuality is NOT encouraged, like it is here. We had to conform to the standards of government and society.
Phoenix College has so much diversity on campus! We are all e ENCOUraGED to explor our self-expression.
I have been in the United States for four years now. I value the freedom of this country!

Anahi My name is anahi. I’m from Chihuahua, Mexico!
We moved to the U.S. when my mother remarried. It was very sudden!
I had to learn English in a hurry! It wasn’t easy. The teachers in school talked so fast! I felt stupid for not “getting it.”
I heard Phoenix College was the best place to start.
But I stuck with it, worked hard, and I learned. Oh, did I tell you? My dream is to become a nurse.

Feels Like Home is y name Hello, m
Magnolia
I am going to be a Dental Hygienist one day. but I didn’t always know that. For the longest time, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do!
I graduated from alhambra High School, where I felt like I was part of a family. I knew I wanted to go to college. But where? I would be the first in my family to go, so it was important.
That’s what I found at Phoenix College. as soon as I stepped on campus, I knew I was in the right place.
I feel you need to have friends and family who understand that, and who support you in your decision.
Now I know exactly what I want to be. and I know I’m going to make it Happen!
