GUIZHOU PHOTO WORKSHOP

Photo Tours Abroad Taking your photography further

GUIZHOU PHOTO WORKSHOP Overview In the midst of modern China, the Miao & Dong cultures are able to retain a large part of their ethnic identity. Our workshop focuses on life in the small villages scattered throughout eastern Guizhou, that part of China least touched by modernization.

GUIZHOU PHOTO WORKSHOP Siyueba Festival We start our workshop with a day at the Siyueba Miao Festival. The name literally means the 8th day of the 4th month on the lunar calendar. It’s a day filled with rites and ceremony, but it’s also just a great party. Lots of dancing and feasting. Set in a rural temple, there will be many opportunities for the photographer.

GUIZHOU PHOTO WORKSHOP The Miao in China The Miao are one of the largest ethnic cultures in Southeast Asia, spreading northward into parts of China. They live mostly in small rural villages, tucked away in remote farming valleys. We will visit a number of villages to gain an understanding of their way of life.

GUIZHOU PHOTO WORKSHOP The Dong culture Dong villages are known for their very distinctive architecture, and village life is centered around the drum tower. We will visit a handful of Dong villages as we leave Guizhou and continue into the neighboring province of Guangxi.

GUIZHOU PHOTO WORKSHOP Dragon’s Backbone Farming underpins the lifestyle of both the Miao and the Dong, and there will be many opportunities to photograph aspects of the rice-growing culture during this workshop. At the end of the tour we will visit one of the more famous rice growing areas, known in China as The Dragon’s Backbone Rice Terraces.
