AVITOPIA - Birds of the Federated States of Micronesia

The Federated States of Micronesia are an island nation in the westernmost part of the Pacific Ocean and occupy most of the Caroline Islands. The four states are named after their main islands: Chuuk, Kosrae and Pohnpei in the east and Yap in the west. The nation of Palau also belongs to the Carolines, but forms its own sovereign state. One can say that the states of Micronesia consist of two endemic bird areas (EBA according to BirdLife International), namely the

three islands in the east and the Yap Islands. The isolation of the islands so far from each other has led to the development of endemic species and subspecies. In addition, there are other bird species with a restricted range in Micronesia. The climate is tropical, humid and hot, and violent hurricanes occur again and again. These fascinating islands are particularly attractive to bird watchers, but their remoteness and underdeveloped infrastructure pose a challenge. This multilingual (en, de, es, fr, ja, cn) bird guide introduces the entire bird life of the Federated States of Micronesia in color. As a bonus, links to more than 25 HD video clips are included.
