Dr. Corey L. Brown, Pastor Dr. Corey L. Brown is a native of Jacksonville, FL., and a product of the Duval County Public School System. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from Alabama A & M University in May 1994; received a Master of Divinity Degree from the Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University in May 2002; Doctor of Ministry Degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio in December 2006. Currently, Dr. Brown serves as the Pastor of Providence Baptist Church in Newport News, Virginia. Under Dr. Brown’s pastoral leadership and vision many souls have been saved and disciples have been made. Several ministries have been implemented, such as “Happy Hour”, a noon day bible study, and “Higher Learning” a tutoring ministry staffed by qualified teachers to assist students with their academic needs and prepare them for the collegiate level. “Joshua’s Generation” is a ministry designed to train and develop potential leaders. “Sistas With Vision (SWV)” is a ministry for the women of Providence and The Brothers Network (TBN) is a ministry for the men of Providence. These ministries provide both genders the opportunity to come together to discuss issues pertaining strictly to them in a biblical context. Dr. Brown’s ministry and vision is not contained within the walls of Providence. This is evident with the implementation of “Christmas in June”. “Christmas in June” is a ministry that meets the needs of the community by providing clothes, toiletries, small appliances, toys, books, and more. Prior to becoming the Pastor of Providence, Dr. Brown served as the Minister of Christian Education at First African Baptist Church in Richmond, VA during the Pastorate of Rev. Dennis E. Thomas. He also served as the Pastor of College and Young Adults at Bethel Baptist Institutional Church in Jacksonville, Florida where Dr. Rudolph W. McKissick, Sr. and Dr. Rudolph W. McKissick, Jr. serve as Senior Pastors. Dr. Brown has expanded his ministry as a writer. He is the author of a devotional book entitled, “Emerge: Little by Little”. He currently hosts “Get Your Aim Right with Dr. Corey L. Brown”: an on air Bible Study on Rejoice Radio Station; 100.9 FM or at www.rejoice1009.com, Thursdays at 12:15 p.m. He is married to the former Veronica Keene. They are the proud parents of two children: Sean and Michelle.
GUEST SPEAKER Pastor Leofric W. Thomas Open Arms Christian Fellowship Jacksonville, FL Leofric W. Thomas, Sr., is a native of Jacksonville, Florida. He holds Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from the Florida Memorial College of Miami and a Master of Divinity Degree from the Virginia Union University School of Theology, Richmond, Virginia. Pastor Thomas served as Assistant Minister of Music to Bruce Allen, of the Abyssinia Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Florida, where Tom Diamond is pastor. He also served as Minister of Music at the Trinity Baptist Church Richmond, Virginia. Pastor Thomas he has led three congregations as under-shepherd; Metropolitan Baptist Church Petersburg, Virginia 1991-1995, Emanuel Missionary Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Florida 19951999, and Open Arms Christian Fellowship, Jacksonville, Florida, where he is presently pastor and founder. Pastor Thomas is also a gifted songwriter artist and singer. His solo project "With You Always", which was an instant hit, allows him to express the gifts and talents God has given him vocally. He has also appeared on several national recording artists projects; namely the Georgia Mass Choir, "It's All Over", Allen and Allen, "Love Sweet Love", Troy Sneed's CD's, "Bless that Wonderful Name", and Pastor Rudolph McKissick Word & Worship Mass Choir CD's " Because you are Worthy" and "What a Time." His preaching anointing has allowed him to travel abroad proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Family oriented, he is the husband of Sandy Lorraine (united in marriage March 1989). To their union they have two offspring, Leofric W. Thomas, Jr., and Kristian Lorraine. The ministry of Pastor Thomas consists of preaching, teaching, evangelist, facilitator, and vocalist.
