Looking to the Future
Understanding the changes of the GI industry and the impact of our mission
As we’ve battled COVID-19 over the past two years, the GI industry has been forced to find unique solutions to patient care while providing a safe environment for interaction. The GI issues of our patients never stopped due to the pandemic, and we were tasked with quickly adapting to new safety protocols and strategies to protect ourselves and our patients. As March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month, I wanted to take a moment to discuss updated changes surrounding colon cancer screenings and what the GI industry has learned over the past two years.
In 2021, updates to guidelines by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) lowered the age to begin routine screenings from 50 to 45. With this update, it is now more important than ever to ensure that all patients are informed of why screenings are key to maintaining one’s health. To help communicate this change, we will continue to release our toolkits for our partners. These kits support patient engagement—including letters to patients and referring doctors, posters and other informational articles—and assist physicians in showcasing why colorectal cancer screenings should be completed on the recommended schedule.
I also see this change as a way to allow patients to begin and maintain an ongoing discussion relating to GI health at an earlier age. All too often, GI health is seen as a “one and done” treatment when, in fact, GI health plays a vital role in our overall well-being.
The pandemic has further shown the importance and benefits for GI physicians of working with the right corporate partner.
David Young, President & CEO, PE GI Solutions
The pandemic has further shown the importance and benefits for GI physicians of working with the right corporate partner. In response to the unique situations the market continues to face with current staffing shortages and low patient volume due to COVID-19, a corporate partnership offers operational excellence and clinical knowledge to support efforts alongside opportunities for financial benefits. At PE GI Solutions, we focus on alignment of our practice and center solutions platforms with our partners while leveraging our experiences and successes working through COVID-19 to help support our partnerships in real time.
Our goal is to always have the solutions in place to meet the needs of GI doctors across their entire health continuum. Furthermore, we continue to stay aligned with GIs through development ofservices and opportunities to support growth objectives for the long term. In turn, this will create a higher-quality patient experience at a lower cost, driving better and more positive outcomes.
As we progress through 2022, one of our highest priorities is to listen and obtain ongoing feedback from our GI partners on understanding the support resources, tools and solutions they need to improve GI patient care as well as provider experiences. We remain strategically aligned through our partnerships with GI physicians to meet their needs and ensure that patients continue to receive the highest quality GI care.
