Everything You Need To Know About Surrogacy
By: Physician's Surrogacy
IntroductIon A surrogate mother is a woman who carries to term the infant of another couple and, after birth, gives the baby to the couple. While some infertile couples privately hire women to carry their child, surrogacy agencies, such as the Center for Surrogate Parenting, advocate the use of an agency as a mediator to protect the needs and interests of the couple and the mother.
Why Use A Surrogate
The surrogate's egg that is used for the pregnancy, the surrogate is also the biological mother of the child. With the gestational surrogacy process, the origin is created by using sperm from the biological father and an egg from the biological mother through the process of in vitro fertilization.
Types
There are two types of surrogacy—traditional and gestational. In traditional surrogacy, the surrogate is impregnated with the intended father’s sperm. Traditional surrogacy is much more infrequently done because it is more legally complex than gestational surrogacy and often subject to different laws and prohibitions.
ElIgIbIlIty
Women involved in becoming a surrogate mother have to meet a number of eligibility requirements. Even if these necessities may be a little different among surrogacy agencies, most agencies require that the possible surrogate has had at least one simple pregnancy and release.
