The Invisible Alternative To Metal Braces; For Those Who Hate It

Being a dentist and having seen hundreds of dental patients striving hard to get straighter teeth at Midtown, New York, I know how it feels to have the “UGLY” metal braces. I have been in Dental care industry since more than 13 years and i know what is it that patients actually need.

Breaking the INVISALIGN story To alleviate the oral pain and the number of people staring at your wire-bonded teeth, a company named Align inc. Innovated INVISALIGN, which, after almost decade of its invention, has become the new face of dental braces in US & World.

The company, Align Inc. has registered more than 133 patents, among which Invisalign is the one. Invisalign uses highly sophisticated technology to make it possible for you to get a set of invisible/transparent aligners accustomed to your own teeth.

What is Invisalign? Invisalign is a teeth straightening technology that allows you to get straight teeth without wearing braces. In a way, it is “invisible braces”. Invisalign invisible braces are made with sophisticated machinery developed using computer machinery and virtual reality to plan gradual movement of teeth by clear overlay retainer appliances. Invisalign works through a series of clear, invisible & comfortable aligners those are hard to spot by others. The overlay appliances are constructed via computer with only mm movement of the malposed (crooked) teeth for each clear overlay appliance.

The Process Of Creating Invisalign For Particular Patient It all starts by taking x-ray, photographs, a bite registration and polyvinyl siloxane impressions of the patient's teeth and gums. Additionally, your dentist/orthodontist will fill a six-page form with a diagnosis and treatment plan. Patient's dental impressions are then sent to Align Technology where a 3D representation of patient's teeth is generated using sophisticated computer software called Treat. This program creates stages between patient's current and desired teeth positions for individual aligners. With each subsequent aligner, the position moves up to 3.3 mm. The designed solution, i.e. 3D representation of stages of aligners, is sent to the representative dental clinic where it is shown to patient for approval. Upon approval, the production procedure starts at Align Technologies, where the 3D representation is modeled using CAD-CAM software and manufactured using StereoLithoGraphy process.

The material used to make Invisalign aligners is photo-sensitive liquid resin that cures into a hard plastic when exposed to a laser. When patient wears Invisalign aligners, it will apply continuous minute pressure on patient's teeth to move it into the aligner's direction.

The Time The Patient Have To Wear Invisalign Aligners Typically, patient has to wear Invisalign braces for 20 hours a day except the times of flossing, teeth cleaning and eating. As you don't have to wear it during eating, it eleminates the possibility of food clogging & tooth decay, which is generally a big issue with metal braces and ceramic braces as you can't remove them while eating or after eating to clean your teeth.

The Time For Completion Of Invisalign Treatment Depending upon severity of Malocclusion (Bad Bite), number of stages for aligners during treatment may differ from patient to patient. Typically, a patient may need any number of different aligners between 18 to 30, wearing each aligner for two-three weeks. Thus the process of teeth straightening with Invisalign will typically take 9 to 15 months for completion, which is, almost one third of the time you will need with metal/ceramic braces.
