The university’s resident professional piano quintet, Piedmont Camerata, now in its eighth season, has earned rave reviews as one of the finest chamber ensembles in the region. In their first performance in the new Conservatory of Music, the group will perform a variety of works from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.

PIEDMONT PRO MUSICA ORCHESTRA

Come hear the inaugural performance of the university’s newly formed professional orchestra, Piedmont Pro Musica, in a performance of works for and from the Czech Republic by Antonin Dvorak, Bohuslav Martinu, and W.A. Mozart.

MAURICE CLERC, ORGAN

Maurice Clerc is the internationally acclaimed emeritus organist of the cathedral in Dijon, France. During his 40-year career, he has performed around the world. He will present a concert of organ music on the Sewell Organ.

Cantabile, the Conservatory’s 10-voice, elite vocal ensemble, performs a variety of works from the 16th century to the present on the theme of “Love and War.”

VIENNA BOYS CHOIR $$

Founded more than 500 years ago, the Vienna Boys Choir is one of the most famous choirs in the world. As part of their 2022-2023 world tour, the Vienna Boys Choir presents a concert of magnificent choral music from the medieval to contemporary periods. Tickets are $25. PIEDMONT CONSERVATORY STRINGS

The Piedmont Conservatory Strings, in its second year under the direction of Heather Strachan, combines players from the community and the university in the performance of significant works for string orchestra.

WIND ENSEMBLE PARTNERSHIP

The Piedmont University Wind Ensemble combines Piedmont instrumental students and the finest high school players in the region to perform great works for symphonic band.

PIEDMONT UNIVERSITY SINGERS

The Piedmont University Singers performs a variety of works from the Renaissance to the present on the theme of “heaven.” Wallace Hinson, conductor; Louise Bass, organ.

Feb. 23 7:30PM 34 TH ANNUAL SERVICE OF LESSONS AND CAROLS

The Annual Service of Lessons and Carols is one of the region’s most beloved events celebrating Christmas. Now in its 34th year, the Piedmont Chorale, Brass Choir, the Sewell Organ, and guest artists are featured on this special program of readings, carols, and choir anthems that begins the Christmas season.

LUX TREBLE CHOIR

From the Latin for “light,” Lux is an advanced treble choir born out of a need for beautiful treble music to bring light into this difficult and sometimes dark world. Emily Allison and Ashley Conway, conductors.

BLOOM-FUNKHAUSER DUO

Peter Bloom, flute, and John Funkhauser, piano, both veterans of the legendary Aardvark Jazz Orchestra, considered one of the best jazz ensembles in the world, present a performance celebrating the music of the incomparable Duke Ellington.

ANDREA M. PRICE, SOPRANO & HEEJIN PARK, PIANO

Dr. Andrea M. Price, Professor of Music and Coordinator of Applied Music at Piedmont University, performs lieder, art song, and operatic arias. Dr. Heejin Park, piano.

Trumpeter Chuck Seipp and organist Randall Sheets perform custom musical arrangements of virtuosic, beautiful, entertaining, humorous, and patriotic selections. Coupled visually with specialized videos, the duo crafts a unique and engaging concert experience for all ages.

PIEDMONT UNIVERSITY SINGERS AND PIEDMONT PRO MUSICA CHOIR AND ORCHESTRA

The Piedmont Singers are joined by the Pro Musica Orchestra and Piedmont’s newly formed professional choral ensemble, Pro Musica Choir, in a performance of Maurice Durufle’s Requiem and other works.

CANTABILE

Cantabile performs works by American composers from the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries, including folksongs, jazz, and arrangements of top-40 hits by songwriters including Billy Joel, Randy Newman, Brian Wilson, and others.

G R E AT C O M P O S E R S C O N C E R T $$

The Piedmont Chorale, Cherokee Bluff Middle School Chorus, Orchestra, and soloists perform Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, considered one of the most important masterworks of the 20th century. In this dramatic and expressive work, Orff sets texts of wandering medieval scholars with harmonic richness and rhythmic vitality. Tickets: $10. Piedmont University faculty, staff, and students admitted free.

Students from the studios of Dr. Jeri-Mae G. Astolfi and Ms. Dianasue Walton perform a variety of chamber music from the 18th century to the present.

Dr. Jeri-Mae G. Astolfi, Piedmont University artist-in-residence and internationally acclaimed pianist, presents a concert of important piano works.

J A M E S F . M E L L I C H A M P , O R G A N

Dr. James F. Mellichamp, university president and member of the music faculty, performs a concert of great works for the king of instruments in preparation for his upcoming European tour.

The Conservatory of Music houses 27 Steinway pianos. The hand-crafted instruments, widely considered the finest in the world, are synonymous with prestige and quality. The pianos and Piedmont’s designation as an All-Steinway School were made possible through a $1.5 million gift.
