One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean he was really friendly. So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!

Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets. The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so...Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!

(For Charlotte, A Wonderful Teacher) The 5th Grade Teacher! As she stood in front of her 5th grade class on the very first day of school, she told the children an untruth. Like most teachers, she looked at her students and said that she loved them all the same. However, that was impossible, because there in the front row, slumped in his seat, was a little boy named Teddy Stoddard. Mrs. Thompson had watched Teddy the year before and noticed that he did not play well with the other children, that his clothes were messy and that he constantly needed a bath. In addition, Teddy could be unpleasant. It got to the point where Mrs. Thompson would actually take delight in marking his papers with a broad red pen, making bold X's and then putting a big 'F' at the top of his papers. At the school where Mrs Thompson taught, she was required to review each child's past records and she put Teddy's off until last. However, when she reviewed his file, she was in for a surprise.

By now, Mrs. Thompson realized the problem and she was ashamed of herself.. She felt even worse when her students brought her Christmas presents, wrapped in beautiful ribbons and bright paper, except for Teddy's. His present was clumsily wrapped in the heavy, brown paper that he got from a grocery bag. Mrs. Thompson took pains to open it in the middle of the other presents. Some of the children started to laugh when she found a rhinestone bracelet with some of the stones missing, and a bottle that was one-quarter full of perfume. But she stiﬂed the children's laughter when she exclaimed how pretty the bracelet was, putting it on, and dabbing some of the perfume on her wrist. Teddy Stoddard stayed after school that day just long enough to say, 'Mrs. Thompson, today you smelled just like my Mom used to.'

After the children left, she cried for at least an hour. On that very day, she quit teaching reading, writing and arithmetic. Instead, she began to teach children. Mrs. Thompson paid particular attention to Teddy. As she worked with him, his mind seemed to come alive. The more she encouraged him, the faster he responded. By the end of the year, Teddy had become one of the smartest children in the class and, despite her lie that she would love all the children the same, Teddy became one of her 'teacher's pets..'

The story does not end there. You see, there was yet another letter that spring. Teddy said he had met this girl and was going to be married. He explained that his father had died a couple of years ago and he was wondering if Mrs. Thompson might agree to sit at the wedding in the place that was usually reserved for the mother of the groom. Of course, Mrs. Thompson did. And guess what? She wore that bracelet, the one with several rhinestones missing. Moreover, she made sure she was wearing the perfume that Teddy remembered his mother wearing on their last Christmas together.

12-29-08; DANVILLE POLICE SEEK TWO WOMEN IN CONNECTION WITH CREDIT CARD FRAUD The Danville Police Department is seeking two women in connection with a recent credit card fraud. The credit card was stolen from a purse at Roman Eagle Nursing Home. The purse was inside a vehicle in the parking lot. The two women pictured below have made purchases with the stolen credit card at the following Danville stores; Target, Wal Mart, Rue 21, and the food court at Piedmont Mall.

Information given will remain confidential. 12-18-08; POLICE CHARGE MAN WITH BURGLARY OF CONVENIENCE STORE At approximately 10:41PM last night, Danville Police responded to an alarm at the Apple Market convenience store on West Main Street. Responding officers discovered that entry had been gained into the business by throwing a brick through the front door glass. Several packs of cigarettes were taken from the business. A short time later, Danville Police saw two men carrying a trash bag full of cigarettes on Stokesland Avenue. As the result of the investigation, Danville Police charged David Wayne Wright age 23 of Danville with burglary and grand larceny. The other man has not been charged. Yesterday morning, at about 12:30AM, the Apple Market was burglarized. The suspect threw a rock through the front door glass and stole several packs of cigarettes. Danville Police are investigating the obvious connection, however no charges have been filed yet. 12-19-08; FAS MART ON PINEY FOREST ROAD WAS ROBBED LAST NIGHT At approximately 10:16pm, officers of the Danville Police Department responded to the Fast Mart, 565 Piney Forest Road, in reference to an armed robbery. When the officers arrived at the business, an employee told the officers that 3 B/M’s, all armed with handguns, entered the business and demanded the money. After giving the robbers an undisclosed amount of money, all the suspects ﬂed the business on foot across Piney Forest Road. The employee described the suspects as being thin, 5’10” to 6”00” tall, mid to upper 20’s in age, all were wearing dark clothing and one of the suspects was wearing a gray hoodie. The incident is under investigation by the Danville Police Department. 12-25-08 SHOOTING Last night at approximately 8:21 PM Danville Police responded to a report of a man being shot in the parking lot of the Sunrise Mart on South Main Street. Near the same time the shooting was reported Police were notified that a 19-year-old Danville man had been admitted to the Danville Regional Medical Center suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Through further investigation it was determined that the injured man was the victim involved in the Sunrise Mart shooting. The victim is currently listed as in stable condition. The shooter was found to be 19-year-old Danville resident George Lewis Henry. Henry was arrested and charged with malicious wounding. 12-29-08; DANVILLE POLICE HAVE IDENTIFIED THE VICTIM IN THE SHOOTING AT IHOP OVER THE WEEKEND At approximately 2:17AM the Danville Emergency Operations Center received a 911 call in reference to shots fired at the IHOP Restaurant on Westover Drive. Shortly after the intial call, another call was received that a male had been shot and was lying in the parking lot at IHOP. Police responded and found an unresponsive man lying in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and later identified as Tyrone Smith age 23 of Danville. Another male was wounded in the incident and treated at the hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his leg. The incident is under investigation by the Danville Police Department. ANGEL CAKE DESSERT 1 angel food cake 1 can strawberry pie filling 2 pkg. strawberry Jello 2 envelopes Dream Whip or Cool Whip 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan Break angel food cake into bite size pieces. In bowl add 2 packages of strawberry Jello and 2 cups hot water. Let set until slightly thickened, add 1 can strawberry pie filing. Mix well using a mixer. Then pour over cake pieces and mix over and over a few times. Add topping. Put in refrigerator until firm.

Fill each muffin cup 3/4 full and bake for 12 to 15 minutes. They are done when cheesecake bounces back after being lightly touched. Let cool completely and top with fruit, pie filling, chocolate, etc. Best when served cold.

STROKE IDENTIFICATION: During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) .she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Ingrid passed away. ) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today. Some don't die. they end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead. It only takes a minute to read this... A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough. RECOGNIZING A STROKE Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR . Read and Learn! Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions: S *Ask the individual to SMILE. T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. It is sunny out today) R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS. If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher. New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other,that is also an indication of a stroke. I also read to CHEW up an asprin immediately (I carry one in my purse).
