Ronald Corwin Bailey, 81, Dry Fork, VA passed away on Friday, May 08, 2015 at his residence after a decline in health since 2002. Mr. Bailey was born on August 17, 1933 in Jackson, Michigan, to the late Russell Bailey and the late Facelia Carpenter Bailey. He lived the last 30 years of his life in Dry Fork, VA. Mr. Bailey worked as a Tire Builder for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 40 years. He was a veteran of the US Army National Guard. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Bailey was a former member of The Moose Lodge and a member of the Last Capitol Motorcycle Club. On February 17, 1962 he married Judith Coffey Bailey who survives. In addition to his wife of the residence he is survived by one son, Scott Bailey of Lyons, NY and one sister, Janet Burnham of Brooklyn, Michigan.He was predeceased by a son, Kirk Bailey. Lizzie Rebecca Echols Holmes, 85, of 141 Levelton St., 2B, Danville, VA, died, Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the Danville Regional Medical Center. Born May 4, 1929 in Pittsylvania County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Percy and Mary Belle Lovelace Echols. She was married to the late Ruben Holmes, Sr. She was the last survivor of her generation. Survivors include seven daughters, Florice Ward (Alvin) of Washington, DC, Joyce Holmes, Lametrice Metts, Mary Price, Rita Watkins (Keith) and Debra Bailey, all of Danville, VA and Sylvia Broussard (Vernon) of New Castle, DE; two sons, Wayne Holmes (Sheila) and Samuel Holmes (Deborah), both of Danville, VA; 38 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 3 great great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Ruben Holmes, Jr. and Steve Holmes (Sheila); five sisters, Lois Richardson, Alease Claiborne, Sherdena McDowell, Pearl Haymes and Edna Russell; one brother, Thurman O. Echols, Sr. The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, Mary Price, 1015 Lockett Circle, Danville, VA. Susie Anner Neal, 68, of 515 Third Street, Danville, VA, died S a t u r day, May 2, 2015 at Danville Regional Medical Center. Born July 1, 1946 in Danville, VA, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Benjamin McClam and the late Chestee Walton McClam. Survivors include two daughters, Suzette Neal and Gladys Macklin, both of Danville, VA; three stepsons, Eric Dabney, Larry Younger ad James Jennings, all of Danville, VA; one sister, Thedosia McClam of Danville, VA; four grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. ADELLE HODNETT WINN PARSONS Adelle Hodnett Winn Parsons, 89, formally of 1892 Silver Creek R o a d , Danville, VA died on May 9, 2015, at Roman Eagle Memorial Home. Mrs. Parsons was the daughter of Oscar Lee Hodnett and Mattie Lewis Hodnett. At a young age, Adelle went to live with Eugene M. Winn and Ethel S. Winn on Mt. Cross Road. June 8, 1962 Adelle married Gordon Lee Parsons where they owned and operated G. & A Upholstery business until retirement. Adelle is survived by two sisters, Frances Hay of Richmond, VA., Carolyn Brown of Nathalie, VA. (William), brotherin-laws George Carter, Jr. and Wayne Parsons (Ann), sister-in-law Katie Yates, nephew Carter Coleman (Patti), Steven Coleman (Debra), Brian Yates, nieces Nancy Stowe (David), Julie Cunningham, Tara Hinkle (Jeff) and a number of great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband and one sister-inlaw Delores Parsons Coleman and husband James C. Coleman, brothers Randolph Winn and Raymond Winn. A graveside service will be held at the Winn Family Cemetery, 11292 Mt. Cross Road, Danville, VA., on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. conducted by the Elder Danny Parker. BETTIE MAUREEN CAMPBELL HELTERBRAN Bettie Maureen Campbell Helterbran, 80, of Amherst passed away Monday, May 4, 2015 in Lynchburg. Mrs. Helterbran was born in Lowesville, April 13, 1935 to the late Wilson and Meredith Campbell. She was retired after 41 years with the Pentagon where she served as a Deputy Branch Chief and Congressional Liaison for The Department of the Army and Air Force. She was a member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church, Amherst. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Helterbran, two brothers, Lilbourn Campbell and Dallas Campbell and a sister-

HELEN MARIE PARCELL ORANDER Helen Marie Parcell Orander, 84, of Collinsville died at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville/Henry County, Martinsville on Tuesday, May 5, 2015, after a brief illness. Helen was born on January 29, 1931 in Rocky Mount, a daughter of the late Joel Parcell and Lula Law Parcell Arrington. She attended Franklin County Schools and was a member of Henry Fork Church of the Brethren, Rocky Mount and upon moving to Collinsville, she transferred her membership to Fort Trial Baptist Church, Stanleytown. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and for her beautiful flower gardens and enjoyment of her home, family and friends. She loved music, especially hymns. She also enjoyed square dancing with her friends in Martinsville. She and her late husband, John Bishop Orander, were both employed by E. I. DuPont, Inc., Martinsville. Helen is survived by her beloved son, John R. Orander and her grandson, Blake Orander, both of Collinsville and her sister, Jane Parcell Broadhurst of Florida. She is also survived by her nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Bishop Orander; brothers, Jack, J.W., and Garvin Parcell and sisters, Eva Nichols and Mildred (Polly) Hall. JERRY PENDLETON Jerry Pendleton of Martinsville, VA, age 71, passed from this life on May 7, 2015. He was preceded in death by his father, Elijah Greene Pendleton and his brother, Elijah Clayton Pendleton. Jerry is survived by his mother, Hilda Jeanette Pendleton, of the home. He is also survived by two nieces, Andria P. Christian and Lisa James Layne, both of Tidewater, VA; Jerry’s partner in life, Phyllis McMillan of Sedgefield Drive, Martinsville, VA and multitudes of family in Stuart, VA. Jerry was employed with E.I. Dupont from 1964 to 1994. He worked in various departments settling in works engineering as an electronic mechanic. Following his retirement, Jerry obtained a CDL license, giving his love for large equipment. His joy in life was to help all who needed him and his equipment to carve the earth. He had many hobbies, motorcycle racing, boating, yard work of multiple residences but his love of hunting was immeasurable. Hunting deer and bear atop the family mountain brought him as close to heaven as possible, waiting, watching for move-

Burial will follow at Hollywood Baptist Church Cemetery in Chatham, VA. Larry was born December 3, 1942 in Denver, Colorado to Morris Frank and Maurine Shirley (Smith) Welborn. He grew up in Denver and San Leandro, California and graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in 1964. Larry started his career as an OďŹƒcer in the Civil Engineer Corps of the US Navy and later reached the rank of Captain in the US Naval Reserve. He served in many positions as
a civil and mining engineer, including graduate education at the Colorado School of Mines and serving as a professor on the faculty at Michigan Technological University. Larry and his wife Peggy were residents of Pittsylvania county for the last 25 years and he served on the Pittsylvania County Planning Commission. Larry was active in the community and served with Habitat for Humanity in the Danville area. He and his wife Peggy were members at Ringgold Baptist Church and they were members of the Dan River Ruritan Club. Larry was an Eagle Scout as a young man and later served helping to lead Boy Scouts in Ringgold. He had a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed sharing it with his family and others. Larry was a member of the Danville Model Railroad Club and he also enjoyed reading, working outdoors and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Larry is survived by his wife Peggy Welborn of Danville, his two daughters, Jennifer Maurine Welborn and husband Je, of North Stonington, CT; Christine Marie Tarne and husband Bob, of Lexington, KY; and two sons, Matthew Lee Welborn and wife Kim, of Cary, NC; and Kenneth Morris
Welborn and wife Anna, of Charlottesville, VA. Larry had twenty grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
