May 28th - June 3rd, 2015 LIFEPOINT APPOINTS ALAN LARSON AS MARKET PRESIDENT, DANVILLE REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER CEO Danville, Va. (May 21, 2014) –– LifePoint Health announced today that Alan Larson has been appointed south central Virginia market president and chief executive officer (CEO) for Danville Regional Medical Center (DRMC), effective August 1. In this role, Larson will have regional oversight of both DRMC and Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County while also leading the daily operations of DRMC. Larson joins LifePoint from TD HealthCare, an innovative healthcare consulting and interim leadership organization that Larson founded and has led as CEO since 2006. He replaces Jerry Dooley, who has served as interim market president and CEO of DRMC since November 2014. Memorial Hospital CEO Michael Ehrat will report to Larson and continue leading the Martinsville and Henry County facility. “Working in partnership with the Boards at DRMC and Memorial Hospital, we were thorough and deliberate in our search to find the right leader to fill this important role,” said Victor Giovanetti, chief operating officer of LifePoint Health’s Eastern Group of hospitals, which includes DRMC and Memorial Hospital. “Alan stood out as the strongest candidate. His deep bench of leadership experience within both the hospital and health system settings will be an asset to our facilities in south central Virginia and their communities.” Prior to TD HealthCare, Larson served as senior vice president of Mercy Health System of Southeastern Pennsylvania, a five-hospital system, and as CEO of the system’s Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital campus from 2003-2006. He previously served in leadership roles at hospitals within Community Health Systems, NetCare Health Systems Inc., and HealthTrust Inc. systems. In addition, Larson was one of eight founders of Arcon HealthCare, a start-up ambulatory care company in Nashville, TN. “On behalf of the Board, we are thrilled to welcome Alan to DRMC and the south central Virginia market,” said George Daniel, chairman of the DRMC Board of Trustees. “Equally as important as his stellar professional background is that he is a cultural fit with our hospital and communities. We are confident Alan will help ensure DRMC and Memorial Hospital continue down paths of success.” Dean Johnston, chairman of the Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, continued, “We are eager to have Alan join our team and work with our CEO, Michael Ehrat, and other hospital leaders to provide strategic support and direction for Memorial Hospital. We are very proud of the exceptional care and service Memorial Hospital provides throughout our region, and I am confident Alan will bring invaluable perspective and leadership as we continue to grow.” Larson earned his master’s degree in health administration from Medical College of Virginia and his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Larson and his wife, Kami, have five children, three of whom are married. Their two teenage boys will move with them to the Danville community from Downington, Pa. About LifePoint Hospitals® South Central Virginia Market LifePoint Hospitals® South Central Virginia Market is an integrated regional health care system which includes two acute care hospitals (Danville Regional Medical Center and Memorial Hospital of Martinsville & Henry County), twenty-six physician practices and a full spectrum of other facilities and services including open heart surgery, spinal surgery, advanced cancer treatment, Sleep Disorder, and Pain Management. A famous art collector is walking through Greenwich Village when he notices a mangy cat lapping milk from a saucer in the doorway of a store, and he does a double take. He knows the saucer is very old and valuable, so he saunters casually into the store and offers to buy the cat for two dollars. But the store owner says “I’m sorry, but the cat isn’t for sale.” The collector says, “Please, I need a hungry old tomcat around the house to catch mice. I’ll give you ten dollars for him.” The owner says “Sold,” and hands over the cat. Then the collector says “Listen, for the ten bucks I wonder if you’d throw in that old saucer. The cat’s used to it and it’ll save me buying a dish.” And the owner says “Sorry, buddy, but that’s my lucky saucer. So far this week I’ve sold sixty eight cats.”

Driscoll under fire
2002 - 2012 Honda Civics and Accords
BY BILL DYER Special to the Piedmont Shopper What goes around comes around. Patricia Driscoll, the ex-girlfriend of NASCAR’s Kurt Busch, is being accused of using the Armed Forces Foundation (AFF) to fund a variety of expenditures, including bills for a private company (Frontline Defense System) that she owns. . The Driscoll name surfaced following a messy and public breakup with Busch. With the Busch situation out of the spotlight, the accused Driscoll is now the one under fire and in the spotlight. The ESPN report cites many misuses of the charitable donations given to the AFF, among them the following: • The AFF paid for Driscoll’s young son to fly around the country while not acting in any official capacity of the AFF. • In documents obtained by ESPN, Driscoll used funds to pay for herself and Busch to travel to Paris and Morocco. The AFF also paid off other expenses totaling more than $130,000 for massage treatments, personal medical expenses, grocery bills and expensive toy store purchases for her son. • ESPN reported 72 cents of every dollar raised by the foundation goes to supporting military members and their families, not the 95 cents as claimed by the non-profit organization. • Federal tax filings failed to reconcile with audits, which showed numerous discrepancies totaling thousands of dollars, and Driscoll’s failure to report “substantial” bonuses she received for fundraising. A former employee is providing documents to the FBI and is planning to file a complaint with the IRS against Driscoll. • Over a 19-month span, the AFF paid expenses that Driscoll accumulated through her own company. As expected, the AFF refuted the claims by ESPN and released the following statement to SB Nation: “The Armed Forces Foundation is extremely proud of its work and achievements on behalf of this nation’s veterans. The one-sided reporting of ESPN makes accusations that are blatantly and demonstrably false. Representatives from our organization asked ESPN for additional information and for a reasonable time period before publication to investigate its claims, but those requests were denied. In order to publish its pre-conceived story line, ESPN demonstrated no interest in a fair, balanced and factually accurate account, electing instead to push a sensational and erroneous story to publication. If ESPN had followed proper journalistic practices and afforded AFF a reasonable opportunity to respond to the accusations, AFF would have been able to discredit them; as AFF was able to do with respect to the few allegations mentioned by ESPN prior to publication. The baseless reporting by Mike Fish and ESPN is an unfair and unjustified assault on the great work AFF and its volunteers undertake on a daily basis in an effort to serve our men and women in uniform. AFF does not intend to allow its reputation to become a victim of reckless and irresponsible journalism.” Not to disclaim the AFF, but ESPN has a reputation of its own. It’s hard for me to believe that Fish would put that reputation to risk. However, Driscoll, executive director of AFF, has retained noted Attorney L. Lin Wood of Atlanta to evaluate and potentially pursue legal action from what she claims are false and defamatory. The Armed Forces Foundation is one of the nations most prestigious and well-respected charity organizations in the country, and if the accusations turn out to be accurate then Driscoll, and anyone else that has a part in the embezzlement, will be and should be punished to the fullest.

Fishing was an outdoor activity that opened up the wonders of nature – whether it was a beautiful mountain stream or a serene lake setting. It was even better if there was a trout or bass at the end of the line. Ultimately it was the “family” that centered his life – his love and caring for his “dear Rachel”, his three children and the fun and togetherness of family get togethers, cookouts and conversations. He was a member of Shelton Memorial Presbyterian Church for 74 years. He served in many capacities including Deacon, Elder and superintendent of Sunday School. He willingly stepped forward to fill any needs as they arose. Mr. Horton retired from Dan River Mills after 42 years of dedicated service. He was preceded in death by Rachel Parrott Horton, the love of his life, to whom he was married to for 69 years. Mr. Horton is survived by a son, Virgil Andrew Horton, Jr. (Andy) of Richmond, VA, daughters Carol Younkin (husband Al) of Houston, TX and Dana Tyler of Williamsburg, VA. Also surviving: Grandsons Ray Younkin (wife Georgann) of Houston, TX and Travis Younkin (wife Shannon) and John Harrington of Birmingham, AL and great-grandsons Gray Daniel Younkin and Cooper Ray Younkin. He retired from both following knee replacement surgery. He had been a member of the Horsepasture Ruitan club since 1959 having served as President and Secretary numerous times. “When Is A Lawn Business Not Just A Lawn Business?” One thing I will never rightly be accused of is being lazy. Work is something I enjoy, almost to the point of addiction. But to see a pastor out in public cutting lawns can be a bit of an odd thing, especially when he does not need the money. My church takes very good care of me, I have been full time as a pastor for nearly 17 years now. In addition to that, I also am well treated as an evangelist, and at least reasonably successful as an author. We are certainly not rich, not even close, but our needs are met. Thus, my mowing of lawns has nothing to do with money, and everything to do with priorities. I have known very wellmeaning preachers who pontificate that there is no higher priority than the ministry. With all due respect, I could not disagree more. I am not minimizing ministry; it is indeed an exceptionally high calling, and should be treated as such. But a high calling and a high priority may not necessarily be the same thing, and many a preacher has “won the world” while losing those under his own roof. Biblically, the two highest priorities any man will ever have other than his walk with Christ are those of husband and father. The Bible tells a

man to be “one flesh” with his wife, and to nourish and care for her the way Christ does for the church. Our children come from that one flesh union, and Jesus said that to offend (to cause one to go into sin) one of these little children who believe in him, it would be better for that offending person to have a millstone hung around his neck and be cast into the sea. All of this brings me to a lawn business. Last year I helped my young teenage son start one. He and I go out together at least one day a week and spend most of the day mowing, trimming, caring for lawns of customers in our community. Once again, I do not need the money. In fact, if I so desired I could just save myself the trouble and give him an allowance. But taking that course would not serve my ends for him. A boy needs to learn how to work, and sweat, and push through difficulties, and get up before others. It is my job to teach him. He needs to learn how business really works, and how to budget, and how to plan for the future, and how to invest. He needs to know that in the real world, if you are lazy or sloppy, someone else will come along and take your customers. He needs to know that America has equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome, and that is the way it should be.

Along the way my son and I spend quality dad/son time talking about things great and small. God? Absolutely, I make sure of that. Basketball? Absolutely, he makes sure of that. Girls? He is fifteen, what do you think? And who do you think I would rather have him discussing that with than me? If I am going to have godly grand kids one day, I cannot leave anything to chance, especially his thoughts on who would make a suitable wife. And so we have a lawn business that is not just a lawn business. What it really is, I suppose, is a construction business. Each and every day that we ride together and talk together and mow together, I am attempting to build my son into the man I expect him to be. And as an excellent bonus, he and I are becoming better friends that ever. Yes, I will always make sure that I am a father first and a friend second, but if I have been only a father and not a friend to him in his youth, I cannot expect things to be much different in his adulthood.
I know life is busy, too busy most of the time. But if you have kids, make time for your own construction business, whatever form it takes.

Features
Danville, VA May 21, 2015 - In what seemed like a rollercoaster for these new artist, a breakthrough has arrived in the form of a major opportunity. The Kuntry Boyz were 1 out of 300 artist selected by ReverbNation to perform for the biggest festival in South Carolina. After a one week Facebook contest on the Carolina Country Music Festival Facebook page, that asked for fans to vote for who they would like to see perform, The Kuntry Boyz catapulted over the competition, making them the ReverbNation National Winner. The Kuntry Boyz consisting of Jon Luke “JLuke” Lovell and Chavez “Vez” Farmer are a Country/Rap group that creates music with no explicit language blending hip-hop beats with country melodies. “I knew we had a fan base, but to see them support us like this is HUGE” says JLuke, whom is an employer at Goodyear in Danville, VA. Vez, whom has been actively looking for work says he is “blessed for this opportunity”, and sees this as God’s blessing for the trials he has endured. Not to seem as if they have not been working hard already, The Kuntry Boyz have opened up for national recognized artist. Some which have included: The Chimpz whose music is featured on Sons of Anarchy, Ricky Young, and CCMF headlining artist Colt Ford. They were also the featured group on Hick Hop Music an online radio show out of Tampa, FL. With over 31k in Twitter followers, 8k on Facebook, over 29k on YouTube, and a huge hometown following The Kuntry Boyz are ready to rock SC. Their featured single “Kuntry Love” features Ricco Barrino whom has worked with artist from T.I., Fantasia, R. Kelly, and many more. The Kuntry Boyz said “To have him come out to Danville, VA to do this featured was unreal. He was super humble, and knocked the record out in 20 minutes.” Catch The Kuntry Boyz at the Carolina Country Music Festival in Myrtle Beach, SC on June 5 on the ABC 15 WPDE Stage from 3:00 - 3:30. They will be opening for Rodney Atkins, Cole Swindell, and the one and only legends of country music Rascal Flatts. The festival is a 3-day weekend and tickets are available by visiting www.carolinacountrymusicfest.com. Follow The Kuntry Boyz on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram @thekuntryboyz. Their music can be purchased from iTunes and merchandise can be found on www.thekuntryboyz.bigcartel.com. The Kuntry Boyz would like to extend a major Thank You to all of their supporters and sponsors that helped them achieve this opportunity; especially to Eddie Hundley at Trophy & Sign Center. CONTACT: The Kuntry Boyz Manager: Tommy Conner at TOMMYCONNER1@GMAIL.COM for more info.
The Danville Museum held it’s first annual Solo Music Festival recently. High School Students (left) and Middle School Students (above) took the time to pose for a picture or two. These students performed many classical and modern pieces. True Talent! Great Job Students!

Favorite Recipes Zesty Chicken With Fresh Corn Ingredients: 12 ounces fettuccine (3/4 box) 3 tablespoons olive oil 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (6 ounces each) 2 teaspoons ground cumin 1 teaspoon sweet paprika 1 teaspoon ground sage 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1 1/2 teaspoons black pepper 4 green onions (white and green parts, roots discarded), cut into 1/4 inch pieces 4 cloves garlic, thinly sliced 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes 1/2 tablespoon flour 1/2 cup chicken broth 1 cup corn kernels (from 1 to 2 ears, or frozen) 3/4 cup half-and-half cream 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (1 ounce) 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg 2 cups baby spinach (1 1/2 ounces) 1 lemon, cut into wedges 1. Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain. 2. Meanwhile, heat 2 tablespoons of the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Season chicken on both sides with cumin, paprika, sage, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. 3. Cook chicken until golden brown and cooked through, 6 to 7 minutes per side. Transfer chicken to plate, cover loosely to keep warm and set aside. 4. Meanwhile, add remaining tablespoon of oil to pan. Add green onions, garlic, red pepper flakes and 1/2 teaspoon each of salt and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, until garlic is tender, 1 to 3 minutes. Add flour and stir for 1 minute. Add chicken broth and turn heat to high; stir until well-combined and liquid thickens slightly. 5. Turn heat down to low, and add the corn. Simmer until corn is tender, 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in half and half. 6. Add pasta and 1/4 cup of the Parmesan cheese, the nutmeg and remaining 1/2 teaspoon each salt and pepper, and toss to combine. Fold in spinach. Top each serving with a chicken breast. Sprinkle with remaining Parmesan cheese. Serve with lemon wedges. Serves 4. *** Here are a few tips for selecting an ear of corn: * Cobs should be fully filled, i.e. covered in corn kernels * Kernels should be bright, plump and show no signs of wrinkling * The leaves of the husk should be intact, fresh, green and not spotted or damaged * Cobs should be free of disease and insects * Sweet corn should be free of any foul odors. Store corn in the husk in the vegetable crisper or in a plastic bag in the refrigerator. Corn is best eaten within one day of purchase, which is a good excuse for eating one of summer’s sweet gifts right away!
