Mrs. Bonnie Jean Owen Balderson departed this life on Friday, July 3, 2015. She was a loving wife, compassionate friend, and she will be sorely missed by all. She is survived by her husband, Raleigh Gilbert Balderson; sons, Gilbert R. “Gil” Balderson and wife, Debbie, T. Keith Balderson and wife, Kathy, and Carroll Owen “CO” Balderson and wife, Janis; grandchildren, Ryan Balderson (Kristi), Blake Balderson, Brittany Balderson, Alex Balderson, Drew Balderson, Owen Balderson, Kamron Sprouse (Beth), and Elizabeth Phillips (Scott); great-grandchildren, Rylynn Balderson, Addison Hinson, Rylee Phillips, Natalie Phillips, Milo Phillips, Karsen Sprouse, Ellianna Sprouse, Kylie Grace Balderson, Mikey Anthony and Christian Anthony; sister, Brenda Owen Rogers of Danville, VA; two nieces, three nephews, four aunts, many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles H. and Elizabeth Owne, and her two brothers, Charles F. Owen and Harvey C. Owen. A special, heartfelt appreciation and thank you to the caregivers, Rita Balderson, Rosemary Campbell and Brenda Smith, in addition to Hospice of Virginia, Dr. Czajkowski of Bon Secours and Dr. Dunn. Bonnie O. graduated from Longwood College and taught school in Westmoreland County for 32 years. She received the Virginia Home Economics Teachers Association Outstanding Teacher Award for the Northeastern Virginia District in 1983 for her outstanding and dedicated service. She received a letter of commendation and gratitude from the Virginia Education Association for her role as president of the Westmoreland Education Association. Bonnie O. was a member of Nomini Baptist Church, where she was an Adult Sunday School Teacher for fifty five years, a member of the Adult Choir, Director of Youth Choir, Assistant Sunday School Director, member of Women’s Missionary Union, Chairman of Pastor Search Committee, and she also served on numerous other committees. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Nomini Baptist Church with

Charlie Hodnett
Charlie Hodnett, 89, formerly of 1210 Lamar Street, Danville, Virginia died Sunday, June 28, 2015 at the Piney Forest Health Care Center. Born September 4, 1925, in Blanch NC, he was the son of the late John Hodnett and the late Mary Belle Mitchell Hodnett. He was married to the late Mabel Long Hodnett. He was a veteran of the United States Army. The family will receive friends at the residence. Survivors include one daughter, Cheryl Cephas of Upper Marlboro, MD; three sons, William Love of Fort Washington, MD, Gary Hodnett of Clinton, MD and Reginald Hodnett of Triangle, VA; and a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Chaney Louise “Kandee” Jackson, 54, of 216 Garfield Street, Danville, VA died Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem, VA. Born October 18, 1960 in New Rochelle, NY, she was the daughter of the late Mary Scott Murphy. Survivors include two daughters, Sade Jackson and Winsome Jackson, both of Danville, VA; one son, Stancil Jackson of Elizabethtown, NC; one brother, Mark Murphy of Baltimore, MD; and a host of other relatives and friends. Born May 6, 1921 in Danville, VA, she was the daughter of the late Harry Brown and the late Mamie Bowan Brown. She was married to the late Wilbur Daniels. Survivors include three daughters, Pearl Harris, Josette Guy and Wilma Lynn Daniels, all of Danville, VA; one son, Harry L. Walters of Danville, VA; and a host of other relatives and friends. Eddie “Keith” Hardy, Jr.
Eddie “Keith” Hardy, Jr., 44, of 32 Vandola Road, Danville, VA died on Mon., June 29, 2015 at Danville Regional Medical Center. Keith was born in Danville on Dec. 21, 1970, a son of Eddie Keith Hardy, Sr., and Peggy Rigney Hardy, of Dry Fork, VA. He spent all of his life in the Danville area where he was a salesman for Moore’s Building Company for 26 years. He attended Blessed Hope Baptist Church and he also loved to go fishing. In addition to his parents, Keith is survived by two sons, Landon Hardy and Grayson Hardy both of Danville, VA and a sister Felicia K. Hardy of Danville, VA. Elva Richardson Clark
Elva Richardson Clark, 87, of 1969 Rocksprings Road, Ringgold, VA, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at the Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center after a decline in her health for the past nine years. Mrs. Clark was born in Pittsylvania County, VA, on April 5, 1928, a daughter of the late Ernest T. Richardson and Lula Yeatts Richardson. She lived her entire life in Ringgold and attended Dan River High School. She was a home-
maker, a member of Kentuck Baptist Church, the J.O.Y Sunday School Class, and the W.M.U. at Kentuck Baptist Church. On December 28, 1946 she married William Edward Clark, who died on October 24, 2009. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Dennis Clark, Jr; five sisters, Edna, Gladys, Doris, Beatrice, and Jeanette; and three brothers, Pete, Roger, and Russell. Survivors include three sons, Ronald E. Clark, of Ringgold, VA, Wallace D. Clark, and his wife Debbie, of Staunton, VA, and Dennis R. Clark, and his wife Wanda, of Ringgold, VA; a daughter, Judy Clark Woods, and her husband Mike, of Crozet, VA; twelve grandchildren, and nineteen great grandchildren. Keith Bryant Mustain, Sr.
Keith Bryant Mustain, Sr., 62, of 8676 Old Richmond, Road, keeling, VA, died on Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham, NC after being in declining health for a month. Mr. Mustain was born on April 21, 1953 in Danville, VA son of the late Robert Thomas Mustain and the late Gloria Jacqueline Rhodes Mustain. He spent all of his life in the Pittsylvania County area where he worked as a truck driver for First Piedmont for over 17 years. Keith enjoyed the outdoors, where he liked to play golf, go fishing, and spend time at the beach. He loved to spend time with his family and friends and he loved his dogs. He spent time making stained glass and he also was a big supporter for the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters program. He was married to Barbara Henderson Mustain, who died on March 17, 2007. Survivors include, a son, Keith Bryant Mustain, Jr. of the residence; daughter, Courtney Pritchett and husband Billy of Danville, VA; sisters, Cheryl Nicoletti of Danville, VA and Torie Mustain of Gretna, VA; girlfriend, Tracy Vaughan Gunnell; and numerous nieces and nephews. Allison Gosney Cinquegrani, 53, of Danville passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 1, 2015. Allison was born in Danville, VA on July 12, 1961 a daughter of the late Ray Thomas Gosney and Earline Franklin Gosney, who survives of Danville. Allison was a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University and worked as a Flight Attendant for United Airlines and was a member of Dan River Church. Survivors in addition to her mother include four sisters, Virginia Sanchez, of Danville; Sandra Updike (John); Sharon Hurd (Bill), both of Charlottesville, VA; April Zachmann (Gregory), of Roanoke, VA; three nieces, Laura Gourley Schoonover, Angela Gourley Doughty, Julia Updike; three nephews, Michael Gourley, Evan Zachmann, Andrew Zachmann; and her beloved Dog, Scotti. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at 2:00 PM from the Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel conducted by the Rev. Scott Randlett. Jesse Gilmore Hawker, Jr.
Jesse Gilmore Hawker, Jr., 71 of 3326 Durham Street, Ext. Burlington, NC, died in the Alamance Health Care Center on July 2, 2015 after being in declining health for the past several years. Jesse was born in Danville VA. on September 12, 1943 a son of the late Jesse Gilmore Hawker Sr. and Mamie Wood Hawker. He had lived all of his life in Pittsylvania County and in the Providence community of Caswell County prior to moving to Alamance County. Jesse was a graduate of the former Hylton Hall Adult Night School. He had retired from the Caswell County Maintenance Department and Jesse was a member of the Shallowford Christian Church in Burlington. He married Mary Elizabeth McBride Hawker prior to marrying Rachael Brown Hawker who survives of Burlington, NC. Jesse is also survived by a

Mrs. Eleanor Sue McNeely Weatherly passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at The Hospice Homestead in Waynesville, NC. She was the daughter of the late Beverly H. McNeely and the late Mattie Shelton McNeely. She is predeceased by her husband, Lloyd H. Weatherly Jr., her sister Helen McNeely Parker and brothers Howard, Willie and Alvin McNeely. She is survived by her son, Lloyd H. Weatherly III and nieces Joan P. Smith and husband Arthur of Aiken SC, Sylvia H. Phillippi and husband Jimmy of Waynesville, NC and Terry Lee Mitchell and husband Thomas of Newark, DE; nephews, Howard McNeely and wife Wendy of Middletown, DE and Alvin T. McNeely Jr. and wife Paige of Bumpass, VA. Also surviving are several grandnieces and nephews. A native of Pittsylvania County, Virginia, she lived previously in Etowah, NC and moved to Haywood County in 2012. Mrs. Weatherly was a wife, mother and homemaker. She served as a civilian employee of the United States Navy during WWII. She was a member of the Brevard Davidson Presbyterian church in Brevard, NC. “Sue” was a generous and kind woman, who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Edna Mae Powell Lawrence, 84 of 558 Museville Road, Chatham, VA went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 5, 2015 in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital after being in declining health for the past several years. Mrs. Lawrence was born in Pittsylvania County on May 31, 1931 a daughter of the late Iria Powell and the late Sue Hastings Powell. She had lived most of her life in the Callands Community of Pittsylvania County where she was a homemaker. Mrs. Lawrence was a member of the Light House Baptist Church in Missouri. On February 25, 1949 Edna married the late Nathaniel Hylton Lawrence, Sr. who died on September 28, 2001. Mrs. Lawrence is survived by three sons Pastor Hylton Lawrence, Jr. & wife Cathy of Independence, Mo., Roger N. Lawrence & wife Brenda of Chatham, VA and David Lawrence & wife Laura of Chatham, VA, four grandchildren Jeremy Lawrence, Adam Lawrence, Wesley Bray & Zack Lawrence and two great grandsons Ethan Lawrence & Nathan Lawrence. Barbara Richardson Sinsel, 59, of 131 Raintree Court, Danville, Va. died suddenly Tuesday, June 30, 2015 while on vacation in Kentucky. She was born October 30, 1955 in Danville to Ruth Whitlow Richardson and the late Richard “Dick” Richardson. She was married to Michael Sinsel, who survives. Mrs. Sinsel earned her bachelor’s degree from Radford College. She worked as a teacher with Pittsylvania County Schools. In addition to her husband and mother, Mrs. Sinsel is survived by her brothers: Richard Richardson of Ringgold, Va., Michael Richardson of Danville, Randy Richardson of Wilmington, N.C., and Walter Richardson of Danville. Shirley Hardy McDaniel, age 85 of 573 Cascade Rd., Cascade, VA passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2015 at Danville Regional Medical Center. She was born July 30, 1929 in Pittsylvania County to the late John Hardy and the late Eva McDaniel Hardy. Shirley was married to the late Lawrence “Trudy” McDaniel. Mrs. McDaniel was a member of Cascade Baptist Church and the American Business Woman Association. She worked for the Pittsylvania County Schools as a Special Education Teachers Aid. Mrs. McDaniel is survived by a daughter, Trudi Lynn McDaniel of Cascade, VA and three grandchildren, MacKenzie Bryant, Sheridan Bryant and Nathan Bryant all of Cascade, VA. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by a brother, Otis Hardy. Peggy Ann Allen
Peggy Ann Allen, 74, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, July 3, 2015 at Piney Forest Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born December 6, 1940, the daughter of Bernice Stowe Allen and William L. “Jack” Allen, who predeceased her. Ms. Allen retired from Roman Eagle Memorial Home as a registered nurse. She was of the Methodist faith. Ms. Allen is survived by aunts Florence Stowe and Jean Stowe and uncles Wade Stowe and Delton Stowe, also surviving are cousins, Cindy Shelton, Earlene Dolan, Sarracia Dalton, Michael Stowe, Donnie Stowe and Patricia Wade Gooch, and her very special cousin Sherry Stowe. Nettie Ann Harden Lockett
Nettie Ann Harden Lockett, 83, of 286 Arnett Blvd, Danville, went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 3, 2015, after the last several years of declining health. Ann was born in Alamance County, NC, on August 24, 1931, and grew up in Altamahaw Ossipee, NC and in Danville, a daughter of the late James Turner Harden and the late Maie Roney Harden. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was active for many years, expecially in the church Sunday School department. She was a graduate of Longwood College. Ann was a first grade teacher in the Danville Public Schools for 33 years and was remembered by many of her students, even in her later years. She was an excellent seamstress, avid knitter, and could be found every day on her sofa working a crossword puzzle. Ann was affectionately known as “Mama Ann” by her grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren. In addition to her parents, Ann was predeceased by a

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, July 7th at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Allen Thompson officiating and interment following at Highland Burial Park. William Edward “Will” Grimes
William Edward “Will” Grimes, age 51, of 11644 Old Richmond Road, Keeling, died on Saturday, July 4, 2015 at Danville Regional Medical Center. Born in Fayettville, NC on March 3, 1964, he was the son of Roy Grimes who predeceased him, and Patricia Huggett Grimes who survives him. On September 23, 2005, he married Sharon Bennett Grimes who also survives him. He was employed at Haymes Brothers Construction Company in Chatham for 30 years. He loved his country; he loved fishing and canoeing and American history. In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Grimes is survived by his daughter, Kyla Grimes; his brothers, John Grimes of Sweden, Robert Grimes of Lillington, NC, and Stephen Grimes of Durham, NC; his sistersin-law, Sandra Hogan, Marsha Bennett, Dawn Mims and Frankie B.King. He also leaves several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Barker Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Belle Robertson officiating. Hester “Granny” Hawkins Goad
Hester “Granny” Hawkins Goad, 93, of 3871 Mount Olivet Road, Martinsville, VA went to be with the Lord on July 6, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Granny was born on May 8, 1922 in Sandy Ridge, NC to the late James “Hud” Hudson Hawkins and Nellie Martin Hawkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Stafford Goad, brothers, Jesse, Maurice, Edgar, and Lansing Hawkins, sisters, Beatrice Tucker and Bertha Hutchins, great grandchild, Ryan Parsons. Mrs. Goad retired from Reserve Life Insurance Company after more than thirty years of service. Granny was a devoted member of Bible Baptist Church. Family was number one to her and she cared for several others in her home in the past including her mother until her death at one hundred and three years of age. Hester had no enemies she knew of and loved to cook for any occasion. Surviving are her sons, Ronald D. Goad and wife Ann of Martinsville, Garry S. Goad and wife Linda of Martinsville; sister, Irma Eaton of Reidsville, NC; brother, Sam Hawkins of Sandy Ridge, NC; grandchildren, Teresa Parsons and husband David of Martinsville, Dean Goad and wife Bonnie of Franklin County, Julian Goad of Martinsville; five great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Norris Funeral Services Martinsville Chapel with Pastor Raymond Moorefield, Elder David Minter and Elder Jesse Hutchins officiating. Burial will be at Roselawn Burial Park. Edythe Irene Mitchell 71 of Findlay passed away on Tuesday, july 7, 2015 at the Bridge Hospice Care Center. Edythe was born on July 20, 1943 in Dedham, Massachusetts to the late Dominic and Elizabeth (DeSantis) Long. She married George A. Mitchell, Jr. on March 9, 1962 in Roxboro,
Massachusetts and he survives along with a daughter Edythe (Curtis) Davidson of Findlay, six grandchildren; Brandon (Michelle) Davidson, Kristen (Randall) Rayle, Jesse Davidson all of Findlay, Katherine Davidson of Fairfield, Rebecca Davidson of Fostoria, and Amanda (Brandon) Roth of Delwein, IA and ten great grandchildren. Edythe is also survived by three sisters; Janet (Fred) Kenyon of N. Billerica, Massachusetts, Grace Williams of Norwood, Massachusetts and Elizabeth McLeish of Dedham, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her son Donald Mitchell. Edythe enjoyed cooking, crafts and gardening. She especially enjoyed her family. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
