Specialized Recreation

Adventure Within Reach (AWR) provided a wide range of specialized programs for participants in 2022, including recreational bowling, fitness classes, social groups, special events, and art programs. The most popular activities were the art program, dinner and a movie, low-impact aerobics, and Special Olympics.

Program hours with 11,636 specialized recreation participants

The Special Olympics program grew throughout the year, and teams participated in various sports such as track, soccer, golf, softball, bowling, flag football, basketball, and cheerleading. Additionally, AWR expanded its services by partnering with Metro Parks Tacoma and added three new cities to the program — Puyallup, Sumner, and Lakewood.
