1. Pre-heat oven 180c 2. Collect equipment 3. Weigh ingredients – oats, sugar, flour and fat into a mixing bowl 4. Cut fat into small cubes with a table knife, then rub into oat mixture until it looks like bread crumbs

5. de-core, peel and slice the apple 6. If necessary – stew fruit with a little sugar and water 7. Place fruit into dish and cover with crumble mixture 8. Bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown on top


Mission: Reduce Sugar. Your mission: to try and reduce the amount of sugar used in a traditional rock cake recipe. To achieve this you need to work with your partner to produce two different batches of rock cakes that use different amounts of sugar and fruit. Use the recipes below to help you to make 8 cakes in each batch. Good luck.


Rock Cakes Method 1. Pre-heat oven to 200ËšC 2. Get out ingredients and equipment 3. Rub fat into flour using the rubbing in method 4. Add sugar and dried fruit 5. Add 4/5 table spoons milk 6. Mix to soft dough with a fork 7. Divide into 7 heaps 8. Place on a greased baking tray 9. Bake for approx 15 mins until firm and golden brown 10. Remove from the oven and place onto a wire rack

Vegetable Pasta Bake Ingredients 150g Pasta (not lasagne) 1 onion 1 x 400g tin tomatoes 75g grated cheese Pepper ½ tsp mixed herbs Choose 2 of the following: 1 courgette

Method 1) Pre-heat oven to 170°C. Half fill a pan with water. Bring to the boil 2) Add pasta, stir, cook for 12 mins or until soft 3) Wash, clean and chop vegetables

4) Drain the pasta using a colander and place into mixing bowl. 5) Add all the vegetables, pepper, tomatoes and herbs to the bowl and mix well. 6) Pour into ovenproof dish 7) Sprinkle with grated cheese and cook for 20 mins until cheese in melted and golden brown.

Basic Stir Fry recipe Ingredients 1 onion 1 small carrot 1 stick celery 1 tsp soy sauce 2 tbsps oil

Other ingredient suggestions: 50g mushrooms 50g sweetcorn 100g beansprouts Small piece red pepper Tin water chestnuts or bamboo shoots 250g boneless chicken or ham 50g green beans

Method •Prepare the vegetables Onion – peel and slice into thin rings, wash. Carrot – scrape, top and tail, cut into thin slices, wash. Celery – top and tail, chop into small pieces, wash. •Heat oil in frying pan •Stir in prepared vegetables, cook for 5 minutes, stirring all the time •Add soy sauce before serving


Basic Recipe

Ingredients Base 200g digestive biscuits 75g butter/margarine Filling 1 tub of double cream 1 tub of plain cream cheese 1 tbsp icing sugar Fruit for flavour (chopped) Your choice of decoration

Process – Base 1. In a glass mixing bowl, crush the biscuits using the end of the rolling pin. 2. Melt the butter in a pan and mix in the crushed biscuits with a spoon. 3. Flatten the mixture into a dish leaving a rim standing up around to pour the filling in. 4. Wash up

Process – filling 1.Whip the double cream until thick 2.In a small bowl – soften the cream cheese and mix in the icing sugar 3.Add the cheese to the cream 4.Add the fruit P 5.Pour onto biscuit base 6.Decorate 7.Wash up again


Recipe for muffins Ingredients 150g selfraising flour 1tsp baking powder 50g margarine 1tbsp caster sugar 1 egg 100ml milk 50g chocolate 50g fruit My muffin design

Method: 1. Pre-heat oven to 190 2. Collect ingredients and equipment 3. Cream together the fat and sugar 4. Mix the egg and milk in a jug 5. Add extras (fruit/chocolate) to the fat and sugar 6. Sieve baking powder and flour into the bowl andmix 7. Stir in egg and milk – the mixture should be lumpy 8. Spoon mixture into muffin cases 9. Bake for 15-20 minutes 10. Allow to cool on a wire rack
