Colorado Springs Founded in 1871, Colorado Springs is Colorado’s second-largest city; a city where natural beauty is legendary. In fact, the view from the top of Pikes Peak mountain inspired Katharine Lee Bates to compose “America the Beautiful” more than 100 years ago. Today the region is just as magnificent. With more than 300 days of sunshine a year, outdoor recreation opportunities are endless. There are extensive parks and open spaces like Garden of the Gods and Red Rocks Canyon Park, all with trails that wind through magnificent rock formations and shady mountain forests – perfect for hiking, biking and horseback riding. And because the city is located just 1.5 hours east of the heart of the Rocky Mountains, residents enjoy world-class skiing at resorts like Breckenridge, Vail, Winter Park and Keystone Mountain. It is no wonder Colorado Springs draws more than 6 million visitors annually. But Colorado Springs isn’t just about outdoor recreation. City residents enjoy independent shops, art galleries, national and regional parks, coffee shops, pubs, fine dining and shopping. A modern, thriving city that honors its “wild west” roots, the city has more than 50 unique attractions including the U.S. Olympic Training Center, The Pikes Peak Cog Railway, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Cave of the Winds, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Seven Falls, Royal Gorge Bridge, Flying W Ranch, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the Smokebrush Gallery.
