Passing Down the Lamp of Knowledge For many chapters and colonies the end of the fall semester means the end of officer terms and the introduction of new leadership. It is the responsibility of each brother and each officer to pass down information gained from their experience. It is often simple to forget the lessons we learn over time, whether it be from knowledge that was previously passed down or by navigating through the challenges that come with leadership roles. Outgoing leaders should take time to reflect on their experience to better share knowledge with incoming leaders on how they can be most effective in their role. Hold a transition meeting with the outgoing and incoming officers. Pass down information (knowledge): binders/notebooks, loose notes, calendars, budgets, University or IFC rules/policies, ideas that were not completed etc... Pass down contact information: University/staff members, IFC members, Sorority women, other Fraternity presidents, community service organizers, important alumni, regional Pi Lambda Phi Leadership Consultant etc... Discuss the chapter vision: What does your ideal version of your chapter look like? Does everyone envision the same
thing? Set goals for the Spring Semester. Plan and set dates for as many events in the Spring as possible. Share them on a calendar everyone can see. Read more about officer transitions, tips for new officers and officer roles.

Spring 2011 Conclave Schedule As the Spring semester comes to a close it is time to look
ahead to the upcoming Spring semester and get excited for Spring Conclaves! We are continuing to have multiple conclaves in each of our regions throughout the semester to encourage participation from more brothers from each chapter. As a great opportunity to meet and share great experiences with brothers from other chapters, Conclaves also allow attendees to gain more insight into the workings of Pi Lambda Phi and how we can all become better brothers and chapters. We hope that you and your chapter begin discussing which brothers will attend and how you will be traveling. Brothers who have attended a Conclave before should also share their experiences and what they learned with younger brothers or younger leaders who should be attending. If you do this now, it is one less thing to worry about next semester. And keep in mind, if something prevents your chapter from attending the Conclave you are designated to, please let us know well in advance so we can plan together what other Conclave your chapter can attend. To gain a better understanding of the Conclave experience read what an undergraduate brother from Christopher Newport had to say about it here. 1/22 - North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC NC Epsilon Kappa, NC Omega Beta, VA Alpha Psi, VA Omega Rho, 1/29 - Towson University in Towson, MD MD Kappa Chi, MD Kappa Delta, MD Pi Phi, VA Omega Alpha 1/29 - Siena Heights University in Adrian, MI CN Kappa Kappa, MI Alpha Omega, MI Delta Beta, MI Epsilon, OH Beta Tau 1/29 - Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA PA Alpha Delta, PA Epsilon Zeta, PA Kappa Eta, PA Phi Sigma 2/5 - Adelphi University in Garden City, NY MA Theta, NY Beta Omicron, NY Phi Lambda 2/12 - University of Virginia’s College at Wise in Wise, VA NC Omega Zeta, VA Delta Chi, VA Omicron Zeta, VA Theta Xi

Choose To Recruit Well, Choose To Be Socially Excellent The recruitment experts of Phired Up provide the following definition of Social Excellence: Social Excellence [n]: A state of perpetual generosity, curiosity, positivity, and openness to limitless possibility. A desire to intentionally connect with others. The ability to engage in deep, meaningful conversation. Acting in a responsible and respectable manner with high expectations of others. Being authentic and living everyday with integrity as the best version of oneself. Being confident and vulnerable. Being fun and compassionate. Being open, kind, and bold. Making the choice to use this attitude and live a socially excellent lifestyle can have tremendous benefits to you as both a member of your chapter and as a member of society as a whole. Read more about Social Excellence here. Continue learning through Phired Up's Social Excellence Blog. Here's a good post on avoiding the "middle," or the boring
conversations we often have when we talk to potentials at recruitment events.
A Day In The Life Of A Dynamic Recruiter We often talk about recruitment as a 24/7, 365 days a year process instead of just a week or two at the beginning of a semester. Some people will ask, how do you recruit every day? Well here is how: 365 Days of Dynamic Recruitment. This resource written by a college student for college students dives into how an average day for a Dynamic Recruiter should go, and gives ideas throughout the calendar year on how to keep your chapter recruiting dynamically. Revitalize The Frater Began in 1915 as Pi Lambda Phi's original Fraternity magazine, The Frater continues to provide news and updates about our great Fraternity. As we now have the ability to publish the Frater online we want each of you to have the opportunity to decide what The Frater of the future looks like. Please enter Pi Lambda Phi's Branding Contest: Revitalize The Frater, and have your ideas become the faceplate of one of our oldest traditions. The winner will also receive travel, hotel and meal accommodations to the 2011 Pi Lambda Phi Annual Leadership Convention in Philadelphia, PA. The contest ends February 28, 2011.
Lammie Bowl by Glenn Burton
On November 6, 2010 two houses of the same Rampant lion came head to head in a football game known as the "Lammie Bowl". The Lammie Bowl is a flag football game between Florida State University's Epsilon Lambda Chapter and the University of Florida's FL Delta Chapter. The tradition began last year when FL Delta's rival, Tau Epsilon Phi, was removed from UF's campus. Up until this point FL Delta had played TEP every year in a football game for bragging rights. Being an integral part of their pledging process, and with no team to play against, FL Delta and Epsilon Lambda agreed to challenge each other to a yearly football match. Thus the Lammie Bowl was born. Both teams came prepared to battle and played their hearts out. Hosted this year by Florida State University’s FL Epsilon Lambda chapter, the event was a huge success. Each team played with passion and sportsmanship of the highest caliber. The winner this year, after a very close game, was UF's FL Delta Chapter. Congratulations to FL Delta on their victory. We hope to see this tradition continue to thrive. Not four years, but a lifetime.
FIT Homecoming Paired with Alpha Phi Sorority, the brothers of FL Delta Upsilon were excited and enthusiastic to participate in this year’s
Homecoming at Florida Tech. Brother Kevin “Landfill” Nealis was chosen by the Alpha Phi’s to be Pilams homecoming king and Amber Thomas was the Queen (Although, Brother Dan “Lumbergh” Parnel was nominated). The highlight of the homecoming week was the lipsync competition where a handful of brothers and Alpha Phi’s were lead by the king and queen in a routine to the song “Bad Romance”. The performance was hilarious but at the end of the night the judges did not like it enough for us to place. The homecoming parade was equally fun, including Kevin dressed as the little mermaid, but despite our fun we did not place again. During the last event, the King and Queen were announced and Kevin and Amber were not Florida Tech’s homecoming King and Queen for 2010 but they took 3rd! Lambda Chi Alpha/Phi Sigma Sigma took first and college players stole second. Although we did not place first in the competition, everyone still had a great time.
Besides Kevin’s participation in all the festivities, the chapter participated as a whole as well. Before homecoming started, each organization that was participating in the King and queen competition needed to raise money for the United Way. Fl Delta Upsilon decided to raise money by giving the opportunity to Pie a Pilam (or Alpha Phi) to the campus. It was a great success. Kevin was pied in the face by Florida Tech’s president as well as many undergraduates and brothers. In the three hours this took place, $224 was raised. In addition to raising money, the chapter also had great attendance to all of the events helping us to stand out from the rest (including much larger fraternities with almost double the amount of men). At the homecoming game, we lead the student section in supporting the hockey team. I feel that Homecoming this year has greatly improved the chapter’s
image on campus. We had a blast and it was most certainly noticed. People know that we are still here and that we’re not going anywhere. It’s a great time to be a Pilam, especially at Fl Delta Upsilon.
