Chapter Regions This year the International Headquarters is changing how we help support all of our chapters and colonies. With a larger staff we are now capable of having more interactions with each chapter and colony and give continued support throughout each semester. We have divided all Pi Lambda Phi chapters and colonies into geographically based regions. Each region will have about 13 chapters or colonies and a staff member located within the region to support them. With each staff member focusing on a smaller amount of groups both the quantity and quality of interactions will increase which will provide more value to each brother. Conclave Announcements This year we will be hosting multiple Conclaves in each region both in the Fall and Spring. Each chapter and colony is designated to a Conclave date and location but
is able to attend other Conclaves as well. Conclaves serve as regional meetings of multiple chapters with sessions and activities on topics directly related to your experience as an undergraduate member. At a Conclave you will gain a larger sense of what it means to be a Pi lam, build relationships with the brothers from other chapters and receive training on important areas of fraternity life like recruitment and risk management. It is expected that each chapter and colony send representatives to their designated Conclave. Brothers on the Executive Board or who hold positions within their chapter/colony as well as any brother who is interested in learning more about Pi Lambda Phi and how to help improve or continue the success of their chapter should attend. There is no limit to how many brothers from one chapter can attend a Conclave so we encourage you to plan on attending to take advantage of one, or more, of these great opportunities. Recruitment Tips Whether you are just starting rush, right in the middle of it, or already have your Fall 2010 new member class, recruitment still starts now! Recruitment started today, and yesterday, and the day before that, and will start again tomorrow. To be truly successful at recruitment you must make it a habit, not a time frame. Here are some tips on how to be successful at recruitment.
Have conversations with purpose. Know going into any conversation what the purpose of having that conversation is. Even if you are meeting someone for the first time, your purpose should be to gain an understanding of who they are, tell them about yourself and have something to invite them to, or a reason to get back in touch with them. Always get their phone number! You should always ask yourself, “what do I want to get out of this conversation?” and “what do I want them to get out of this conversation?”

Philadelphia to Host 116th Annual Leadership Convention For the fifth time, Philadelphia, PA has been selected to host the Fraternity’s Annual Leadership Convention. Also known as Philly and The City of Brotherly Love, this great Pi Lam city hosted conventions in 1971, 1978. 1983 and 1992. Philly is one of the nation’s most exciting cities, where history walks with you every step of the way. Philly is also one of the largest college towns in the United States with over 120,000 college and university students enrolled within the city and nearly 300,000 in the metropolitan area. There are over 80 colleges, universities, trade, and specialty schools in the region. Philly has hosted five great Pi Lam chapters over the years; University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, Temple University, the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia and Widener University. Please mark your calendars now for the first weekend in August, 2011 so you may be a part of Pi Lambda Phi's continued success!
Chapter Awards Every year at Convention we recognize our chapters for their achievements over the course of the academic year. This year we would like to congratulate our MD Pi Phi Chapter at Towson University for winning the George A. Beck Outstanding Chapter Award. Please view all of our Chapter Awards winners and help us recognize them for their outstanding performances. We would like to challenge all chapters and colonies to strive for success
this academic year and make sure your chapter/colony is represented well at next year's awards Banquet.
Pi Lambda Phi University Your chapter’s convention delegate(s) was part of the inaugural class of Pi Lambda Phi University, an online learning management system that will help educate and train your new members. Using different education tracks such as international and local history, personal skills, recruitment and officer positions, Pi Lambda Phi University will allow all future brothers to receive a level of education in the workings of the fraternity necessary to help improve upon and continue your chapter's success. All of our chapters have experienced highs and lows within our history and most of the lows come when chapters stop passing on the right information to those that come after us. Pi Lam U will give each new member a better understanding of our history, taught through interactive lessons that will put not only the written words but also the recorded videos and personal stories of our greatest alumni who helped create our history. It will also teach our members how to successfully run your chapter through officer training. The opportunities created through Pi Lambda Phi University are endless, but it is also a process. A process that is not complete. We ask that you and your chapter/colony get excited about this opportunity and prepare yourselves and future members for what will surely be one of the largest steps forward Pi Lambda Phi has taken as a Fraternity in recent years.
The Elimination of Prejudice by Bill Sandre The Elimination of Prejudice (EoP) is the Fraternityâ€&#x;s capstone initiative and aligns educational programming and fundraising with our Creed. Furthermore, it has become commonplace for Greek Letter organizations to
name 501(c)(3) entities as their philanthropy (i.e. Alpha Gamma Delta, Sigma Phi Epsilon and Phi Mu). Founded in 1996 by Jules Lennard, the Educational Foundation originally sponsored the annual program at the University of Wisconsin. The University of Michigan (1998) and North Carolina State University (2000) also participated in subsequent years. Chapters facilitated an essay contest for non Pi Lam undergraduate students. Contest winners were awarded a $1,000 scholarship. The program lasted until 20012002. In early 2010, Dan Scott, IEC President, and Chip Luman, Educational Foundation President, appointed a joint governing board committee to revitalize the program. Although you can expect formal program details and launch mid-to-late September, you should know The Elimination Prejudice will be an independently branded movement. The program’s mission is to create long-lasting community change by addressing the underlying differences between people that prevent progress. The Fraternity will provide chapters turn-key program management services; marketing collateral, chapter branded online fundraising page, online donation collection, management and reporting, judge support tools and award distribution. Chapters will be responsible for recruiting judges, contest marketing, fundraising and award presentations. Local contest winners will advance to a national competition, which will be administered by the Fraternity. The overall winner will be announced at the Annual Leadership Convention. Itâ€&#x;s a Great time to Eliminate Prejudice!
Administrative Notes by Laura Patricio As you start the Fall Semester, it is good to keep in mind
the following dates for Dues and Membership. International Dues/ Risk Management Insurance and Convention Delegate Fees are due on September 30, 2010 and November 15, 2010. To take advantage of the early payment discount program, contact Marc Weppner treasurer@pilambdaphi.org or Laura Patriciolaura.patricio@pilambdaphi.org to discuss how your chapter can qualify for up to an 8% discount. Membership Process:
New Member Cards and Fees must be mailed to IHQ within two weeks after the bids are accepted by New Members. Initiation Fees and a Signed Permission to Initiate Form are to be sent to IHQ two weeks prior to when initiation will take place. New Member Pins can be purchased through IHQ at the cost of $3.50. New Member Manuals are sent to chapters once the New Member Cards and Fees have been received by IHQ. Brother Badges are sent to chapters once the Initiation Fees and Permission to Initiate Form have been received by IHQ.
E-Board Updates: It is important to keep IHQ notified when changes are made to your Chapter/Colony E-Board. Please submit changes to your Regional Professional Staff Member as soon as possible. This will not only ensure a smooth transition of E-Board responsibilities, but also keep your Chapter/Colony continually updated with the goings on at the International Level.
