These are examples of shows I’ve either shown work in or curated, but more specifically designed the announcement card. A personal favorite is the Slanadayne show, which was an exhibition for a gallery I worked at as an Exhibitions Manager and sometime card designer. For this show, I conceived of the title (a combination of the three artist’s names) for the exhibition as a well as the concept for the card, fashioned after a drug ad, which at the time were ubiquitous. The band Spiritualized did a similar design for a record release one year later. This card was a one color print run and each of the “pills” were, hand colored with a yellow highlighter. The “More” card is the front side announcing the show, More or Less: From Trails to Superhighways as described in my personal statement.

The last show I curated, which was in 2005—asked to participate in a group show, I conceived of the idea to have five drummers play simultaneously in a gallery. The drummers responded to an anonymous ad posted on Craigslist and they did not know one another. Beyond the concept, I contructed the “platforms” and mirror stands. This was a conceptual pun to a successful project that Roe Peterhans and I initiated beginning in 1999 called Five Shows in Five Days. The original concept was based on Dave Mueller’s Three Day Weekends. The Five Show’s series was an attempt to give local artists an alternate forum to present their work in small, two-person shows in my studio space. The two-person exhibitions were the span of a typical workweek, which was a challenge. The goal was to compress the normal viewing opportunity of a traditional exhibition, which may typically span a whole month, into one night—increasing excitement and participation.

These paintings were done in 2004, are highly reductive abstractions inspired by American abstractionists like Arthur Dove and Georgia O’Keefe both of whom I’ve admired over the years. The paintings are intended to be exhibited as a set and are untitled. Materials used: oil paint, wood, and canvas

Some images I’ve collected during my travels that have inspired me. In no particular order Olympic National Park, WA-San Jose, CR-Crete, GR-Northern Michigan

Stills from a collaborative video project (with Nicola Kuperus and Adam Miller) for the band ADULT. The “Blood Drip” was a 45min video in real time, starting with an empty wall and ending with text revealed by way of filling the screen with fake blood. The band came to me with the blood drip portion and I added the text and real time concept to the completed product. Stills from a video segment, the result of compositing video footage and Flash animation. This segment was a part of a full-length video I’d completed that was projected behind the band, ADULT., as they performed live, both in the US and abroad. The look of the video was designed to mimic the highly realized and established brand of the band. Computer programs used: Final Cut Pro, Adobe After Effects, Apple Logic Pro and Adobe Illustrator.
