Discovery Park A global attraction Discovery Park located in Kent, England’s gateway county to Europe, is home to a growing number of businesses, which have made the world their own. Mylan, one of the biggest names for generic drug treatments, has a reach – like Pfizer – that extends to all corners of the globe. Genea, the Sydney based IVF technology firm, is another company enjoying international success. Many more businesses on site have connections overseas or are backed by international investors. All are supported by a range of on-site services from accountants and funding experts to patent attorneys, translation services and recruitment specialists. Our high tech facilities and unique collaborative approach have created a place where companies – big and small – can share, engage and connect. As one of the UK Government’s 24 Enterprise Zones, there are a range of incentives and benefits available too. Whether you are looking for a global headquarters for your business, a regional manufacturing facility, a laboratory or office (big or small), do get in touch. We will find you the right space to meet your needs.

I NNOVATIVE, COLLABORATIVE ENVIRONMENT

Skills for the future Working to bring jobs and investment to the UK Investment promotion agency Locate In Kent and UK Government department, UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), ensure that Discovery Park gets noticed by businesses around the world.

Funding the future Kent offers a wealth of funding opportunities to allow businesses to fulfill their goals Whether it’s a grant for expansion or support for a start up, we can help you access the funding your company needs. The Discovery Park Technology Investment Fund is an equity scheme launched by Kent County Council and NCL (Narec Capital) to boost the East Kent energy and tech sectors. It is one of several funding routes available for businesses seeking a UK location.

R&D tax credits explained Research and development tax credits are a UK government initiative that enables companies that incur costs in developing new products, processes or services to receive a cash payment or tax deduction.

R&D Tax credits allow businesses to claim back expenditure on research and development. For SMEs this currently amounts to ÂŁ26 of relief for every ÂŁ100 of R&D.

In the UK, your company must be liable for Corporation Tax to claim these credits, potentially up to a third of their development costs.

To find out more, visit: www.gov.uk/corporation-tax Expert accountancy and financial consultancy is available on site from companies such as Kreston Reeves, Wilkins Kennedy and NatWest.

This could mean some businesses can claim back thousands of pounds to invest back into research and development.

The UK tax system explained The tax year in the UK runs from April to March. The Standard Personal Allowance for staff is £11,000 after which tax on income is paid at 20% or 40% for pay above £43,000. Collected taxes are paid to the central government agency called Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and local councils. Local councils collect a tax called business rates from businesses and council tax from households.

Tax relief for innovation The UK Government’s Patent Box scheme enables companies to apply a lower rate of Corporation Tax to profits earned after 1 April 2013 from its patented inventions. This guidance only refers to patents but your company may also benefit from the Patent Box if it holds certain other medicinal or botanic innovation rights.

The Next Chapter Four years in and the vision for Discovery Park, set out in the master plan agreed by Dover District Council in October 2014, is taking shape. Manufacturing will return in a big way in 2017 with the completion of nearly 70,000 sq ft of new production space for Instro Precision Ltd and OFP Timber Framed Homes Ltd. The first 150 homes - known as St George’s Park - will be marketed soon with work underway on a £160m biomass renewable energy plant that will eventually provide all the power and heat requirements for the site.

THE ONGOING DEVELOPMENT OF THE SITE WILL MEAN MORE JOBS, MORE INVESTMENT AND MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR EAST KENT.

Tenant Networking Sparking great ideas is what we’re all about at Discovery Park. Our Mix ‘n Meet events, which take place quarterly, are perfect for catching up on the latest news on site and for tenants to share their success. Coffee & Connect, held on the first Thursday of each month and our summer barbecues offer a less formal way to get connected. Both are masterminded by our on-site tenant support team whose role is to champion collaboration between businesses. If you need support – whether it’s help recruiting, branding or accounts – they’ll point you in the right direction. They organise great events too, many of them held in The Playroom at Innovation House, perfect for linking up over a game of mini-golf.

One of the world’s leading healthcare companies, Mylan, is one of the largest companies on the Discovery Park site. Mylan’s workforce produces drugs and treatment in approximately 145 countries and territories, providing access to seven billion people around the world to the high quality medicines they need. The pharmaceutical giant offers a wide range of antiretrovirals used in treatments for HIV/Aids in the developing world. The company develops and manufactures speciality treatments to help patients and physicians manage respiratory diseases, severe allergic reactions and psychiatric disorders. Mylan chose Discovery Park as a base for its Respiratory Centre of Excellence, and recently expanded its laboratories and office space, enabling it to provide customers around the world with greater access to the medicines they need.

David Waite, Vice President, Mylan Pharma UK “We have been tenants on the Park since its inception. It’s been great to see the Park grow so quickly and be so supportive of the Mylan success story in Sandwich.”

Why Discovery Park? Funding l Facilities l Collaboration l Local access l

Australian fertility group Genea Biomedx chose the prestigious base of Discovery Park as its European HQ. The leading IVF technologies company had searched far and wide for a logically located new base for a bio-tech manufacturing facility, as well as a new regional hub for its staff. They were supported by Locate in Kent, which successfully highlighted the infrastructure support and incentives on offer that persuaded Genea to make Discovery Park its first choice over Oxford and Cambridge.

Why Discovery Park? All support services on site l Location l International funding l

Kim Giliam, Genea Commercial Director: “We were inspired to join the scientific hub of excellence that Discovery Park has fast become. “Discovery Park ticks all of the boxes. It’s close to all forms of transport to continental Europe and the rest of the world, plus there are state of the art facilities and valuable support from local government.” Kim also chose his entire support team from Discovery Park tenants and once Genea had settled into park life they were able to access Expansion East Kent funding and secure a grant as part of the park’s Enterprise Zone status.

Discovery Park is proud that Pfizer, one of the world’s premier biopharmaceutical companies, remains part of our community. Historically the Sandwich site has an excellent track record of discovering new medicines to improve health and quality of life. It is the only site within Pfizer’s R&D network able to perform every step in the complex process of producing a new medicine. What’s more, the site is home to Pfizer’s only fully automated Pilot Plant that manufactures medicines for use in Pfizer’s clinical trials worldwide. Pfizer’s presence at Cambridge, UK and Discovery Park offers opportunities to collaborate on industry projects and initiatives across the UK and Europe

Tommy Dolan, Pfizer, Sandwich Site Head “At Pfizer we are delighted to have not only helped pave the way for the foundation of this valuable site, but continue to be a significant part of its thriving scientific community.”

On site for more than 50 years, a number of capabilities critical to the delivery of the company’s mid to late stage portfolio are located at Discovery Park. These include: • Pharmaceutical Sciences • Safety and Regulatory • Medical • Business Units • Quality Assurance • Business Support Functions
