Building 500 Building 500 is one of the most iconic locations at Discovery Park and the latest to undergo a major refurbishment. With these works complete it now offers some of the best quality space of its type anywhere in Europe. One of the largest buildings on site, it offers tenants room to grow with lab space starting from 1,000 sq ft and office space from 5,000 sq ft. A host of specialist areas, including hydrogenation, CAT 2, CAT 3, GMP and X-Ray are also available. There is no other building like it in the UK, offering unrivalled facilities for large science, pharmaceutical and bio-technology companies in prime position for both London and Europe. Many significant scientific developments have been realised by Discovery Park tenants and with Building 500 now on stream, we have no doubt there will be more in future.
The ongoing development of the site will mean more jobs, more investment and more opportunities for East Kent.
The Next Chapter Four years in and the vision for Discovery Park, set out in the master plan agreed by Dover District Council in October 2014, is taking shape. Manufacturing will return in a big way in 2017 with the completion of nearly 70,000 sq ft of new production space for Instro Precision Ltd and OFP Timber Framed Homes Ltd. The first 150 homes - known as St George’s Park - will be marketed soon with a £160m biomass renewable energy plant set to open in summer 2018.
Top security The park is secure 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Safety is paramount Security Security is one of our key priorities and we work hard to keep people, intellectual property and property safe to make working here a secure and enjoyable experience. The park is guarded 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, staffed by a team of skilled, professional security officers. All officers are SIA licensed and trained in a multitude of disciplines and our operations are managed through a dedicated high-tec control hub. The park is also protected by over 40 CCTV cameras as well as intruder detection systems and site fire systems. Parking There is ample parking on site, which can accommodate all employees, and we provide parking for all tenants in areas close to the occupied buildings. Spaces immediately next to the main buildings are also reserved to incentivise car-sharing.
National Grid ‘National Grid decided Discovery Park was the place to be.’ Steve Self, Project Manager, National Grid
When National Grid needed a central hub for a long-term project they found Discovery Park to be the most switched on. The power infrastructure company is working on proposals for a new electricity connection in Kent which will connect to the Nemo Link, which shares power supplies between the UK and Belgium. Impressed with our good travel links and the benefits of being part of the UK’s most successful Enterprise Zones, the company decided Discovery Park was the place to be and now has a project office on site. Steve Self, National Grid Project Manager, said: ‘Discovery Park is a great option for our project office. It’s really important to us to be embedded in the community that we are consulting with and there is the added bonus of it being a cost effective location complete with business support services.’
Supporting local businesses and sourcing local materials at every opportunity is important to us and we encourage our tenants and business partners to do the same. It’s our USP.
It’s all about the park life Our commitment to providing a supportive environment at Discovery Park doesn’t stop at the gates. We understand giving back is at the heart of good business. Education We organise education programmes and invite students to use our state-of-the-art laboratories for projects and experiments. Many of our tenants open their doors to young apprentices seeking experience of science outside the classroom. They’re the next generation of scientists and entrepreneurs after all. Fundraising We support local causes, whenever we can, whether it’s organising fundraising events, donating surplus furniture to local schools or organising tenant volunteer days.
Thinking green Sustainability is key to the Discovery Park project. It’s all part of our culture. From recycling and electric charging for cars to cycle storage and car sharing we’re making choices that are good for the planet. We’ll be taking this to another level from Summer 2018 with the completion of our biomass renewable energy plant. Community By locating your business at Discovery Park you access the vast expertise of other companies on site. There are regular tenant meetings and networking events throughout the year to bring the people who work here closer together. Each tenant also has a dedicated tenant support team to ensure their business needs are met. Discover More Our loyalty scheme for tenants rewards those who shop locally or use a range of services in the area – from hotels and restaurants to shops and salons – with an exclusive discount. It’s a mutually beneficial arrangement. Our tenants get a great deal and we ensure businesses outside of the park feel the benefits too.
