You’ r e har d pr essed to think about the 1960’s or 7 0’s without some image per taining to the Vietnam War enter ing your mind. Claiming the lives of nearly 6 0,000 US tr oops, the Vietnam War w as easily one o f the most contr over sial war s ever and as a result i ncited a peace movement that swept ac ross the united s tates. With near ly 2 decades of documented conflict, t he imager y is plentif ul and is the backdrop for the c ountr y’s histor y. DYLAN GORDON A f e w Wo r d s f r o m J A M I E As a newcomer to the R oarkRevival, this excursion to Vietnam would be my first experience w ith this group of seasoned adve nturers. A fter a 24 hour stint of land and air tr avel we arrived in the busy city of hanoi and af ter getting settled in the hotel a few of us anxiously hit the str eets to roll around and get acquainted w ith the inf amous North Vietnamese city. You’ r e har d pr essed to think about the 1960’s or 70’s without some image pertaining to the Vietnam War enter ing you r mind. C laiming the lives of nearly 60,000 US tr oops, the Vietnam War w as easily one of the most controversial w ars ever and as a result incited a peace movement that sw ept across the united states. With nearly 2 decades of documented conflict, the imager y is plentiful and is the backdrop for the countr y’s histor y. T his level of con flict tends to permeate ones thoughts and it’s har d to imagine that as an american, w e w ould be welcomed wit h anything but discord or strife. I’m not sur e if our forefathers have been forgiven or if it was the sight of our convoy ripping through the countr yside, but w e w ere greeted w ith smiles and waves ever ywhere w e w ent.
