The Pavillion of Learning,
A Threshold between the everyday and the transcendental realm. More than ever before, the ethical and human task of architecture and all the arts is to defend the authenticity and autonomy of human experience, and to reveal the existence of the transcendental realm, the domain of the sacred. This calls for the identification of the spiritual and holy, not only in the deliberate devotional contexts but in the ordinariness and humility of daily life. -Juhani Pallasmaa What makes architecture spiritual? Human civilization has always been drawn to some kind of spirituality. This longing to explain “the nature of things” and has manifested itself in buildings and spaces throughout time. This thesis explores what makes these spaces “Spiritual”. Why is there a need of being spiritual? Ever since human civilization, we humans have tried to fulfill our basic needs like food, clothing and shelter. It has been discovered by Abraham Maslow, apart from the basic survival needs, there is a need called selfactualization and self-transcendence. These higher needs are most important for the wellbeing of people. Studying precedents helps to develop a list of attribute or elements of spiritual architecture. The result is a language. This discussion is not limited to the built environment. It also strives to explain the spiritual connection between man and the natural environment. Aspects of the natural world that have awed humans have been incorporated into spiritual architecture. This work analyses how various architectural attributes influence our interpretation of a space affecting us at a subconscious level, thereby understanding how architecture has the power of creating a transcending environment for people. This thesis attempts to create a space which transcends people, stimulating learning, interaction, and mental well-being. Thus, enriching the everyday realm with holistical experiences within the boundaries of the city.

SUSTAINABLE MEASURES TAKEN ARE: -Climate responsive design by maximm use of day light and natural ventilation. -North-south orientation of built forms for maximum light. -The building is optimized and the shadow pattern has been applied in designing fenestrations which furthur helps in reducing the excess heat gain. -The green roof provides insulation from the heat to the built form.
-The Design is barrier free. -Natural Stone like kota is used for flooring. -Rain water of the roof is harvested and used for landscaping. -Indegenious plant species have been used. --solar panels have been installed at the back of the site to provide electricity for landscape and transition areas.

This Project offers multiple challenges, -The first challenge that came along at the very first glance over the program brief was that the building seemed to be two buildings in one. The first one was the hotel and its attachments and the second one was consisting of more public programs like conference center and commercials. As soon as the idea of duality in the building came up, the way we were going to bind the two buildings into one became an important issue to be considered. -The Second challenge was to keep the circulation of the guests and the service staff seperate to avoid the collision and for the comfort of the guests.
*The Illustration shows the segregated circulation of the hotel between the guests and the staff to avoid overlapping and interaction.

The Project explores low rise housing for the people coming from the different parts of the country to work in corprate offices giving them a varied lifestyle which promotes social interaction and community living. The Project explores the following housing typologies: -Low Rise Appartments(upto 3 storey) -Row Houses -Semi Detached Houses -Bungalows The site is near Mumbai NH3 -Agra expressway with its immediate context being a recreational ground on the west, forest cover on the south, and a neighbouring plot on the east. The design Strategy revolves around the immediate context where the idea of creating the low rise appartments as a continous strip like a wall overlooking the recreational ground and the forest cover.The angle of the wall is according to the wing direction for maximum cross ventilation. The row houses,semi detached houses and the detached bungalows are built on the idea of keeping the ground cover the same i.e 70 sqm.Hence forming a stepped design as per varying area requirements of the hosing types.
