Japan Media Arts Festival 文化庁メディア芸術祭
The intrigue of the hands-on experience. Nowadays, we can look up anything with ease online or communicate freely in any fashion. The comfortability of staying home is good and all, but it’s hard to replace the intrigue of a hands-on experience. The Japan Media Arts Festival is an event that happens only once a year and gathers together some of the best media around (photography, comics, films, images, games). Those who come not only get to see what’s featured, but also can participate in various hands-on exhibits, installations. The people who come are relatively young: from about 10 to 30s. The kids were lining up in the DS and Wii sections. 体感する面白さ。 なんでもインターネットで気軽に調べられたりコミュニ ケーションがとれる昨今ではある。 自宅で住んでしまう 快適さもよいが、 体感する面白さは、 何事にも代え難い。 メディア芸術祭は年に一度、行われるメディア （写真、 漫画、映画、映像、 ゲーム） の優れた物を集めた祭典で あり、来場者は観るだけでなく、色んな展示物を体感す ることができる、 インスタレーションなども多い。来場者 もわりと、 １０代から３０代くらいと若めであった。子供 たちはDSやwiiのセクションに列をなしていた。 On the basis of my own judgement, I picked up some works from the Festival. Moment-performatives spazieren Gallery floorboards in a town in Berlin, changing their arrangement in many different ways as they move across the landscape. What’s moving them is a camera shutter, and although this must have been a ton of work, it turned out to be an awesome work of art. Shadow awareness Your body temperature is read and a form is produced. Thinking about this in a composed way, what on Earth could it be for? Although this was on my mind, when I got up in front of the screen I got real excited and made a bunch of poses. A multitude of different shapes were projected on the screen. Simply fascinating. Shadow awareness 体温を感知して、形を作り出す。冷静に考 えると、 これって一体何のためにあるんだ ろう。 という気がしたが、 スクリーンの前に 立つとわくわくして、色んなポーズをとって みる。複数の違う形状の自分がスクリーン に投影され、単純に面白い。
Open Reel Ensemble (ver.1.6) A work in which an old machine is reborn as new: an old reel-to-reel analog tape recorder becomes a musical instrument and is remotely controlled with an iphone. The inventor was excitedly fiddling with the iphone, and that made me excited too. Open Reel Ensemble (ver.1.6) テープレコーダーを楽器にして、iphoneで遠隔操作 してしまうという、古い機材を新しい形で生み出した 作品。発明者の和田君はノリノリでiphoneをいじって こちらまで楽しくなった。

People walking down the street often stop and gaze at this building. No wonder; it looks just like Gaudi had built it. I went to see his works about five years ago when I was a student in Spain, and seeing this building brought back the excitement of that experience. The building stands out prominently among all the inorganic structures and looks quite like a sculpture. I entered the building as if I was being sucked in. The inside was also very detailed. In the back, a hand was hanging from the ceiling. I heard it was a hand of Buddha. When I did a little research, I found that Dorado Waseda was a residential building with six stories and a basement, and was built by architect Von Jour Cauxin in 1983. I inadvertantly glanced over at the windows: the first floor appeared like a row of small retail shops. It looked just like a favorite antique shop of mine. 待ち行く人は思わず足を止める。 それもそのはず、 まるで ガウディ建築のような建物だ。学生の頃スペインにガウデ ィ建築を観に行ったが、 その興奮が蘇る。無機質な建物 に囲まれて、異彩を放つ、彫刻のような建物。私は引き込 まれるように建物の中に入った。 中も細部まで手が混ん でいる。奥には天井から手がぶら下がっている。 これは 釈迦の手ということだ。調べた所、 ドラード早稲田は、 梵寿綱という建築家によって1983年に建てられた、地上 ６階、地下一階の集合住宅であった。 ふと、窓に目をやる と、一階はどうやら、小売店らしい。 それも私好みのアンテ ィーク店らしい。
An antique shop, Oldtimes. Mr. Ohara, the owner of the shop, has been traveling around the world for about twenty years buying antiques. The art nouveau-like interiors went well with his antique Rolex and Seiko watches. I haven’t been in such a fabulous and comfortable place like this in a while. Mr. Ohara sold not only watches but also small articles and cameras. There was a small gallery space in which you could enjoy paintings. If you have a chance to go to Tokyo, please stop by and check this place out. アンテーィクショップ、 オールドタイムス。 オーナーの小 原さんは２０年程世界を巡ってアンティークものを買い 付けに行っている。 アールヌーボー的な内装と、 ロレッ クス、 セイコーなどのアンテーィクウオッチが見事にマ ッチ。 こんな素敵で居心地よい空間は久しぶりである。 時計だけでなく、小物類やカメラなどもあった。 お店の 中に小さなギャラリー空間もあり、絵画も展示されてい た。東京来たら、是非、足を運んでみて下さい。
Marylebone High Street
Marylebone High Street is one of the coolest streets in London.
メリルボーンハイストリートは、 ロンドンで話題 のおしゃれなストリートのひとつ。
Tube（地下鉄） のボンドストリート(Bond Street)の駅から、音楽ホールのあるウィ グモアストリート(Wigmore Street)を抜けて歩く。春まだ浅い平日の午後。 I walked down to Wigmore Street from the Bond street station, where a music hall was located. It was a weekday afternoon during early Spring.
At first, I stopped by my favorite organic food store, La Fromagerie. There were lots of cheeses, vegetables, breads and homemade jams. Those various things and colors made me happy. They also displayed colorful Easter eggs in the store. Their chocolate cake also stole my heart so I decided to take a little tea break at the store. まずはお気に入りの自然食品の店、 ラ・フロマジェリ ー(La Fromagerie)をたずねてみる。外から見える大 きなチーズの山。野菜やパン、 ジャムなど手作りらしい 彩りが楽しい。 カラフルな卵たちはポーランド風に塗 られたイースターの飾りで、食べ物ではなかった！ チョコレートケーキがあまりにおいしそうなので ティーコーナーでお茶することに。
After I left the store and walked around, I found a bookstore called Daunt Books! A used book section in the back was interesting. It looked like a small version of a college library. The interior, using green as an accent color, was also great. I bookmarked this place on “My Favorite Page.”
ぶらぶらしていたら、知らなかった書店(Daunt Books)を発見！奥の古本コーナー はミニチュアの古い大学図書館みたいで面白い！緑がアクセントの内装も素敵だ。 ここもお気に入りに追加、 である。
一本だけ桜の咲いている学校のそばを通り、 ストリートが 終わりかけた場所にユニークなかたちの、 コンランショップ (The ConranShop)がある。向かいは教会の庭で、 日曜は マーケットがあるのだが今日は閑散。 ここにも春の草花が 咲き始めていた。コンランショップの中は三層に分かれて いて、階段とエレベーターで行き来する。青緑のエレベータ ーのデザインがおしゃれ。各階には素敵なデザインの家具 がいっぱい。夏に来た頃は、古いソファーやテーブルなどを リメイクしたものが多かったのだけれど、流行が過ぎたの か、今回は新品ばかり。来週からセールが始まるというの で店員さんがカタログを配っていた。値段はちょっとするけ れど、 ここから家具をチョイスしてさっきの古本屋さんみた いな自分の書斎を作ってみたい。 I walked near a school that had a cherry blossom tree in full bloom and at the end of the street there was a unique shaped building, the Conran Shop. Across the street, you would see Sunday market in the garden of the church. There were not too many people that day but there too, spring flowers and plants had grown. The shop was divided into three levels that you could use stairs and elevators to go through. The design of the bluegreen elevator that moved between floors was stylish and each floor had wonderful furniture. The store’s prices were not friendly but I would like to select furniture from here and design my study like Daunt Books.

Cherry Blossom
Spring has come. Japan has been greeted by warm weather these days...like 70F! Festival-lovers, Japanese people including myself have picnics under the cherry blossom trees. Before that, the weather was cold and I stayed inside most of my time. Now is the time to hang out with my friends! 春です。暖かい日が続いています。２０度以上！ お祭り好きな 日本人達は（私も含む）桜の下でピクニックをします。でも、そ の前までは寒くって、家に籠り勝ちだった私です。暖かくなった のでお友達と遊ぼうと思いマース。
