The London Underground type face,
which is called Johnston Sans,
is a classic design used for
over 90 years.

5
Why I regard Johnston Sans a good design?
1. The type is recognisable while it features in point of lowercase “i” and “j”.
2. It has a great sense of legibility because of the simplicity and property of its structure of strokes.

Muse : A hungry morning.
It wass a hungry morning when I start to think my proposal of design manifesto. The idea poped up to my mind that it could be interesting to make a metaphor between delicious full British breakfast and good design.
So I began to write.

Critical Review
“Design is a tool for change. This is the topic high-lighted on the beginning of the brief of our exhibition piece, according to that, it is obvious that we want to show the attempt of having impact on the general public through design.
the idea we attend to express successfully. However, there are logical and ethic contradictions between the activity held during exhibition and the fundamental idea demonstrated in the work. Since the start of group work in four people, we described design as full British breakfast, outlining the elements of what good design should have and compare with the characters of the materials in the breakfast. From nutritious eggs to wide-range knowledge. The next step came to the combination of two manifestoes and the concentration to the affect

Finally, we moved to the decision of concerning the environmental issue.
design of the sticker(IMG22) and the stand(IMG23). The black and white diagram of the wasting cups amount per day in Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture in Kingston University, which keeps itself simple and modern provides high legibility of the information. In addition, the choice of sansserif typeface which complete responds the style of diagram composes a symphonic chamber music of design. IMG23

There are the reasons below: 1. The issue of waste – It is a thousand-times repeated topic that tons of design works have focused on. Moreover, the issue is relative serious and easily to make audience feel bored. I doubt way we showed was plain and lack of impact which was not an ideal format in an exhibition.
collect the cups to install the tower is providing new cups to audiences. “Provide new cups?” Yes, it is not my typo. We attempted to remind everyone visiting our exhibition how much cups used everyday by consuming even more cups.
Providing new cups seemed to be not green enough, though, as a means of interaction in the display, we could not deny that it made a great By having cups of tea served with our designed paper cups, the audiences, who played key roles in the whole project, got involved in the activity of the exhibition. That was a positive outcome that we were expected and glad to see. It was not easy for eight people to work in a group. As a Chinese proverb, “Little gruel and many monks,” there were not many “design works (the design of the sticker and stand)” to do. What we did is to provide suggestions to those who did the design and try the best to engage the design process. Although, it was still enjoyable to discuss and share ideas with fellows even there were sometimes unavoidable debates.
