Pink Fringe makes Queer culture year round, and this Spring we are bringing you one of our biggest and freshest programmes yet. We are thrilled to be working with Gary Clarke Dance Company on New Ways of Living, commissioning a dance-theatre-happening to take place in an empty shop in Brighton, inspired by commune dwelling drag troupes such as the Bloolips and The Cockettes. We’ll meet you at the checkout at the end of February! In March for International Women’s Day, we will be presenting a series of performances and events celebrating, questioning and interrogating what it means to be a woman. Join us at our home, The Marlborough Theatre for performances from Sh!t Theatre, Lucy Hutson, Figs in Wigs and a Pub Quiz hosted by the fabulous Lorraine Bowen. The cherry on our Women’s Day cake is a collaboration between 2

Pink Fringe and Traumfrau on Saturday 8th March, which will see a host of performance collide with the Queerest dance floor in town. Split Britches RUFF and David Hoyle’s Hurt Me are presented as part of SICK! Festival and are not to be missed. SICK! is a new festival exploring the physical, mental and social challenges of life and death and how we survive them (or don’t). Once again, we are working with the marvellous Ovalhouse on Quit Playing With Yourself, commissioning new work from Ginger Johnson and Jo Bannon - we can’t wait for you to see it. We look forward to welcoming you to this diverse season of offbeat and exceptional work.

We, Object is an absurdist amalgamation of visual puns, wordplay and amateur dancing that deals with objects, objectification and objection. It begins with a slide show and ends with a dance routine. The middle is somewhat embarrassing and a plethora of miniature props begin to complicate the bigger picture. As the show progresses it becomes increasingly unclear as to who (or what) is (or isn’t) being objectified. Figs in Wigs are five women placing themselves in the spotlight, using comedy to highlight something so frequently laughed off. Or perhaps it’s just a show about small things. Peggy Shaw had a stroke in January 2011. The stroke was in her PONS, which rhymes with the Fonz, one of her many role models. Since the stroke she’s realized she has never really performed solo. She has always had a host of lounge singers, movie stars, rock and roll bands and eccentric family members living inside her.

Split Split Britches Britches

RUFF is a tribute to those who have kept her company these 68 years, a lament for the absence of those who disappeared into the dark holes left behind by the stroke and a celebration that her brain is able to fill the blank green screens with new insights. ‘…an impressionistic monologue that’s engaging, admirably unsentimental and often very funny indeed.’ New York Times @Split_Britches TH E B A S E M E N T £10 / £8 10

Quit Playing With Yourself is a duo of provocative commissions asking how we can expand the boundaries of what one person can do on stage. It is about realising ambition and about thinking big, be it filling the stage with ensembles, musicians, technology or the audience themselves. Ovalhouse and Pink Fringe have invited Jo Bannon and Ginger Johnson to help us explore this, and we’re really excited to see what they’ve come up with. @missjobannon @GingerJohnson_ Tired of playing with yourself? David David Hoyle Hoyle

W E D N E S D AY 2 6 T H t o T H U R S D AY 27 T H M A R C H ~ 8.0 0PM ~ Notorious ‘anti-drag queen’, performance artist, avant-garde cabaret artist, singer, actor and comedian, David Hoyle presents a new work on the subject of mental health. Hoyle came to prominence in the 1990s as the Divine David whose lacerating social commentary – targeting both bourgeois Britain and the materialistic-hedonistic gay scene, which he called “the biggest suicide cult in history” – was offset by breathtaking instances of self-recrimination and even self-harm. Following a period of reflection, he returned to TV screens in 2005 in Chris Morris’s Nathan Barley, then began performing live again, under his own name. Hoyle’s biting satire, bravura costumes, wicked comic timing and compelling charisma remained intact. Hoyle is back, all right. Brian Lobel & Pink Fringe present: Grindr, Scruff and the countless other ‘hook-up apps’ rule the lives of some of the gay men we know (naming no names ) - so we wanted to make a piece of art about what this means. These apps have leaked out of LGBTQ culture and into the mainstream changing the way we meet up, hook up, and break up. We wanted to find out what would happen if we put an artist on your smartphone. Love at first tap? Or instant block? LGBTQ people have always been at the forefront of innovative means of social networking, historically as a way of escaping detection by the straight world. By developing an app called Performr we are going to playfully engage with this illicit heritage. We are commissioning five artists to create ‘hook up performances’ for this digital playground: connecting you with an artist through your phone and if you play your cards right, in person... The app will be launched during Brighton Fringe 2014 and will be available on Android and iPhone. Peformr has been developed in collaboration with artist Brian Lobel and draws inspiration from his project Cruising for Art. 14
