A Message from Pink Light

From Pink Light Founder Mary Beth Freet At Pink Light, our mission has always been to create artwork that makes people happy. With the uprisings across America, after the horrific death of George Floyd, we have stopped to take a good look in the mirror. We cannot continue our mission unless we are simultaneously standing alongside our Black friends and being allies in the fight against the horrendous racial injustices in our country. How Black Americanʼs have been mistreated for centuries cannot be undone, and we understand that the wounds are deep. The injustices must stop here. Now is the time for change. OUR MISSION NOW INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING: We will take action toward uprooting the systemic racism that has plagued Black Americans for centuries. We will do this through listening, learning, and taking daily actions. We believe that small steps each day can lead to major change. We will work diligently to be anti-racist through educating ourselves, our team and our community. We support reparations for Black Americans for centuries of injustice, specifically, H.R. 40, a bill before Congress that would create a commission to study the effects of slavery and discrimination from 1619 to the present and recommend appropriate remedies. We will not be silent. Silence is complicity. We must not only be non-racist, we must be anti-racist. I recognize my white privilege. I commit to being aware of it and checking it. We support the implementation of use of force policies as a vital step toward curbing racial injustice and police brutality in our cities. We commit to making our team of artists more diverse. We commit to amplifying the voices of Black women business owners and Black women in the arts. We commit to creating internship opportunities specifically for young Black students in our community. We commit to providing resources and information on our IG account for anyone who wants to learn more about the history of racism in our country and the Black Lives Matter movement. We commit to encouraging all people to vote in order for all voices to be heard. We commit to learning more about our local governments and changes that can be made at the state level including bills to end gentrification, how to improve school funding, and how to improve how Black history is taught in our schools. We commit to taking at least one small step daily, as we understand that the fight for equality in our nation is a marathon and we are preparing to see it through to the end. WE STAND IN SOLIDARITY AND IN ALLYSHIP with Black Americans and all people of color, until equality and justice prevail in our country. If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, please email us at: design@pinklightstudio.com We are listening, we are learning, we are unlearning. We are sure to make mistakes along the way. We will learn from our mistakes and carry on. We hope you join us. “We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. Itʼs easy to say, Itʼs not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem. Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes”. -FRED ROGERS
