Emma

Dennis-Edwards

Pink Pearl Magazine

6

Actor • Play Write • Educator Emma was born and Raised in Hackney, East London. She attended the BRIT School where she was actually in the same year as Jessie J and Adele. She trained as an Actor at East 15 Acting School. Emma attended a lot of after school clubs as a child, and the drama classes were what she enjoyed the most. This is where she discovered her love for acting. She didn’t really think acting was a job and saw herself being an actor until quite late when she went to the BRIT school aged 16. This is where her journey into the arts and Entertainment industry began. She didn’t know any actors or anyone in the business. So it was only from going there and being encouraged by her teachers there that Emma began to see acting as viable career.

Q: What is your most memorable performance? A: I would say my opening night performance of Clean at 59e59 theaters in New York last year was one of the most memorable. The audience was so warm and receptive and it felt very surreal after a long process of VISA applications, Embassy Visits, Rehearsals, Teaching and Dresses to finally be doing the play for a real live New York audience! Q: Which roles have you taken that truly touched your heart? A: I often find myself falling in love with the characters I play, I suppose you kind of have to as you spend so much time with those characters. However I would say that the role that has probably had the biggest impact on me personally was playing Karen Jackson in Upper Cut; Karen was based on a real politician who crossed the line and lost everything. Upper Cut was about politics in particular the Labor party and black representation all of these themes really resonated with me so I felt a strong connection with the role.

The first time I met the lovely and talented Emma Dennis-Edwards was after watching the most brilliant performance at a New York City Theater on the strip of Time Square. I was impressed with Emma’s performance. An associate, I traveled to New York with, Keya Crenshaw of Black Chic Media, was an acquaintance of Emma’s. I wanted to meet the woman behind the performance. Keya arranged the meeting after the last show. Emma was very confident and lovely as ever. She was spunky with a sort of youthful energy that was contagious. The meet and greet took place as we decided to move across the street to a local bar, still on the Time Square New York strip. As the live band played and we sipped our favorite beverages, Emma began to share more details of her upcoming events and goals. She was truly a woman of the arts. Read on to learn more about this Dynamic, talented actress from London UK: Exclusive interview with Emma Dennis-Edwards, Actress

Q: What type of emotion does acting bring out of you? A: Tiredness? Fatigue? Madness? I don’t know. When I’m acting, I’m completely lost in the character it’s sort of like an out of body experience so it’s difficult to put a finger on the emotions, I guess I just take on the emotions of the characters that I play.

Q: Are there any roles that you’ve taken that are closer to your personality? If so, please share.

directed and acted by people of color, the same isn’t true of the UK although organizations like Act for Change are trying to redress the balance.

A: I don’t think so but others may disagree! I mean you use parts of your own experience and personality to every role, so every character I play has a part of me but I wouldn’t say any of them have been that close to how I see myself.

Q: There are so many aspiring actresses all over the world. How would you advise they approach this industry? A: See as much theatre and watch as many films as you can afford to, you learn so much from observing others. Something that has taken me a while to do that I would recommend for anyone (male or female) trying to get into the business is understand that is that BUSINESS. Of course you are an artist in your own right but acting is business so work out what it is that you have to sell and what you’re not prepared to sell.

Q: What type of rituals do you have when getting into character? A: It’s important for me before even getting to rehearsals to know as much about my character as possible. One of the first things I do with a new script (sometimes as early as when I’m auditioning for a role) is I make three lists and write down everything that the character says about themselves, everything the character says about others, and everything everyone else in the play says about the character. That’s my ritual for every character. Not the most interesting ritual but it works for me.

Q: Are there any limits in the type of characters you will play? What are your standards? A: I don’t think I have limits character wise. But in terms of commercials and advertisements there are definitely products/ organizations I am not willing to endorse, these include Money lending companies, anything connected with the army or military and the promotion of weaponry. I don’t make a judgment on those that choose to do that but for me personally it’s a firm no.

Q: In What countries have you performed? A: England, Scotland and the USA. Q: What major differences do you recognize in theater and the Arts in London from other countries?

Q: What’s next? What are your current and upcoming projects?

A: Other than Theatre is spelt incorrectly in the USA? Ha-ha-ha. I think one of the differences that surprised me is how much more expensive tickets are in the states (saying that I’ve only worked in New York so I don’t know if that’s true of other states). There is a lot of subsidy in the UK so the tickets aren’t as expensive. The equivalent of $50 in the UK would be considered quite an expensive tickets and you would be expecting to see at least 3 celebrities in the production whereas in New York $50 is kind of the standard which is crazy. I would say that New York seems more open to diversity, there are a lot more plays written,

Pink Pearl Magazine

A: As well I acting I also write plays. So one my first plays collaboration with Kansaze Dance Theatre 2:1 will be running at the Charles Cryer Theatre this autumn. I’m also part of writer’s groups at the Royal Court and Soho Writers group so I have handed in drafts to them. I have a filming project that starts later on this summer but that’s a bit hush-hush so you will have to follow me on twitter to find out more about what I’m up to @whatemmadidnext.

KEYA crenshaw Pink Pearl Magazine

Black Chick

Media

1. What is your name? Keya Crenshaw 2. What is it that you do? Ha! Well, this is a difficult question because like most creatives, I do more than one thing. But I suppose I’m most well known as the Founder of Black Chick Media, LLC, an online arts marketing organization. 3. What is your place in the arts industry? With Black Chick Media, LLC I coordinate film festivals, produce and market theatre shows and other events and programs, and promote artists and their work. We really like to focus on the brand of an organization and really promote it to the appropriate audiences. 4. What mark do you intend to make in this industry and how? Oh wow, this is an excellent question. I’m not interested in fame or any such thing. I just want to be known as someone very knowledgeable about the field, and excellent at what I do. When clients recommend me to others, I know I have done my job. 5. Is there is specific passion you have within the arts industry? I think my passion is helping people. That has always been my first love. I find it very satisfying to help someone achieve his or her goals, visions and dreams. Being trained in film, that will always be my first passion—film festivals, screenings, filmmaking, writing. But I think creating projects is my passion. 6. Who does Keya admire or look up to? How much time do you have? Haha wow, let’s see. Well, there are so many and for so many different reasons. Phylicia Rashad, Ruby Dee, Sonia Sanchez, Julie Dash, Sarah Berger, Judi Dench, and Angela Davis to name a few, but the list is endless. I really admire women in the arts, because being a successful woman in the arts, which is very heavily male dominated in many aspects (especially the

film/acting world), is an amazing feat in and of itself. All of these women have qualities I either see in myself already, or ones I hope to aspire to. Many of them have overcome adversity, illness, racism etc. to become extremely successful, well known strong and well-respected creatives. 7. Where do you see yourself in the next five years? Hopefully expanding Black Chick Media, LLC to a national and international brand. I’m also currently considering moving to Brooklyn, NY, or London, England. 8. As an entrepreneur are there challenges you have faced that you are willing to share? Haha as an entrepreneur, especially in the arts, everyday is a major challenge! I think the hardest part is being compensated for the work I do. The arts are desperately underfunded, and because of that, a lot of creatives that need services (marketing, advertising, social media help) are unable to afford it. 9. What advice do you have to offer that future entrepreneur? Network network network! I cannot stress that enough. Especially in a city like Columbus where everyone (particularly creatives) truly knows everyone else. By networking you never know the amazing connections you might make. Go to as many events locally, nationally and internationally as you can that pertain to your field; you can never learn too much. And be kind to everyone—make everyone you meet feel like the most important person in the room at that moment (but never be fake! That’s always obvious. If you’re not a people person, then you have no place in the arts). You never know who knows who, or what relationships can be built. I remember one time I went to an event in London, England and this young actress with whom I share several mutual friends, was extremely rude to me. Extremely. So now when people ask me, “Should I hire/work with her”, I always have to say no. Always be kind

Winter 2016

And going back to people I admire, I have always admired and been in awe of Patricia Winbush’s talent. I remember going to see all her plays when I was younger and wanting to be just like her. So now, all these years later, getting to play her daughter is so incredible. She’s a marvelous woman with astonishing talent, and I have learned (and continue to learn) so much from her about strength, the craft, and following your dreams.

and genuine. No one will want to work with you otherwise. 10. As you reflect on the steps you have taken in your lifetime, is there anything that you would change? If so, what? Well, I always say my life motto is “non je ne regrette rien”, which is French for No, I regret nothing. Carrying regret is like wearing a weight around your neck everyday. You’re destined to drown. I know it may sound cliché, but life is way too short for regret and thinking, “What if?” I wholeheartedly believe the God, the Universe, whatever force you may believe in, conspires to put you on the exact life path you should be traveling, All you need to do is have faith, learn and listen. Of course, we all have those, “hindsight is 20/20 moments”, but we shouldn’t dwell on them too much.

14. How important is it for a role to be close to your personality? Hmm, I don’t think that’s an important factor at all really. As an actor, one should be able to create any character. It’s about developing and creating someone else, not playing you; that’s not acting. Personally, I’m someone that can only feel things when they are alive to me. So, I know I don’t have a subtle mind. And I believe because I don’t find any similarities between this character and myself (though there are some I’m sure), it’s really rather difficult for me to create and live her. I’m extremely lucky to have such an amazing and supportive cast, and I’m more than certain everything will be fine.

11. As a child did you see yourself doing what you are now? Absolutely not! Ha. I had a completely different life plan when I was younger. I remember wanting to be a doctor, have my PhD and cure the world of all major diseases. Then I wanted to be a microbiologist—that’s just because it sounded like a great profession. And when I entered college, I was actually in Pre-Pharmacy. I wanted to be a Pharmacist like my grandpa, who was the first African-American pharmacist in Columbus, Ohio. But as I got more into my studies and began taking art classes, I found my passion and love for film and theatre.

15. What preparation do you take to prepare for a role, if any? I don’t know that I have a process necessarily. I read, read, and re-read my script until I know my lines, cues, cast lines, blocking and stage directions. I observe human behavior, do research and ask my fellow cast-mates their perspective of my character. And exercise! Exercise probably helps the most as it clears my mind.

12. What is your sign? I’m a Gemini. Couldn’t you tell? ;)

16. What’s next for you? What is upcoming with Keya? Sleep! And lots of it. I have been in high gear for over a year now with business and traveling, acting, writing and project development. I don’t even remember what stress-free feels like. So resting and rejuvenating and then focusing on my brand. I am currently developing an International Theatre Festival with local creatives, Pink Pearl Magazine, The Barnett Center for Integrated Arts and Enterprise at The Ohio State University and some colleagues from England (Emma Denise Edwards, Sarah Berger and several others) that is called Creativity in Motion. We hope to present it next year, so definitely stay tuned for that. You can check out all our news at www.blackchickmedia.com!

13. I know that you are starring in a play; do you feel like this is the start of a new career for you? Oooh I wish, but, hardly! I admire actors very much and hold them in the highest regard, but I am not an actress by nature (though I’m constantly told I am. People seem to think I can be rather dramatic… but in a good way…). It’s great fun, but I don’t know that I have the acting bug just yet. I’m more comfortable behind the scenes, making the magic happen. So, I’m feeling a bit out of my depth! But besides experiencing and learning something new, I’m so very happy to be working with PAST Productions Columbus which was created by Patricia Wallace-Winbush, Truman Winbush, Scott Porter and Tony Roseboro. It’s an excellent all Black theatre company here that produces some amazing work.

Comedian • Actress • Author “A Pearl in the making is a woman that has lived a traumatic life and still has the strength to conquer all obstacles that were in her path” She shares her experience with the intent to help others.”

Tasha has one book on Bouillon as well as in school in libraries. “This is what I want to say, from coming from a past of abuse, from drug dealing brothers, from being physically abused, being from home to home, uneducated to come to where I am now, working on a PHD, on stage plays. Written three books, in theater productions, speaking to young women.

Tasha Neal Harris is a phenomenal woman. She is a comedian and an actress. She is funny! Don’t let her humor fool you. This woman has a story to tell that will help others.

I want for women young and old to be able to watch my journey and say, I don’t have to be like this. Just because I lived in this, this is not who I want to be. Its not that I don’t have empathy, but people are always saying how they used drugs. Find something else to abuse. Abuse the stage, abuse music, abuse poetry.

Tasha was born and raised in Mount Sterling Ohio, “where the cows roam” in her words. She lived in Reynoldsburg Ohio for some time and then returned to Mount Sterling to get away from it all. She started acting in Elementary School. Her first role was Toto the dog in The Wizard of Oz! “It should have been a guy, because guys are dogs” she says jokingly, but they chose to cast me for this role and “I acted my butt off!” I wagged my tail, she explained as we spoke about this nonspeaking role. Tasha did stand up comedy for seventeen years. She has a one woman show called the Survivors Guide to the G-h-e-t-t-o No you didn’t Family! “When I grew up my family was totally dysfunctional” During her childhood she suffered many tragedies such as physical abuse and child molestation. Tasha explained that she self medicated by doing stand up comedy. That was her drug that she abused to escape her issues. ”I self medicated through performing.”

“FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO ABUSE AND LOVE YOURSELF”

“That was my dope man! I got high by being on stage. Book forthcoming about sexual abuse called “my Baby girl” It is a book on CD and is also going to be a play.

My tragedies make me FABULOUS! I feel fabulous about where I have come from.

“I am a Jazz Singer, Vocalist, Artist Creator, that just brings sound through my mouth from my heart and my soul to the world as they open their ears to hear” Sabrina was born in West Virginia. She has lived in Columbus Ohio most of her life. She feels that she has been everywhere because she can connect to people. She loves people. She likes old fashion classic movies so she likes classic stuff. She says she was born in West Virginia but has connections everywhere. Sabrina has been singing all her life and has been singing professionally for the last twelve years or so. has many people that have light within them that I am drawn to and I feel like I got wisdom from, there are artist that have talents that are so wonderful and I feel like if we deny each other, we deny our own impartations from that particular artist so, I’m just privileged to have that kind of kin of understanding to be able to discern

Q: If people want to see you, how do they find you? A: You can Google Jazz Vocalist, Sabrina Tutstone and find my website and get my schedule from there. Q: Is the jazz the only style of singing you do? A: No, gospel to me is my foundation because I believe God gave me that talent. Gospel is a message of good news. So whatever I am singing, I portray gospel by giving good news through jazz.

Q: What advice can you give to help an aspiring singer get started? A: I would say connect to be that are focused, meaning they have talent and that are not tying to mimick anyone but they are trying to be who they are. Want to perform and give excellence. No sloppiness. I don’t care if you are not clocking in and out, you should want to be punctual, should want to look professional and should always act professional. So whatever you do at home, you should do outside your house. Because your kids and your family see who you are. Don’t be afraid to ask people and if they don’t want to help you , don’t beg, just keep moving.

Q: Where do you see yourself in five years? A: I see myself more in tune to who I am and whose I am. Fear, They say we are born only with the fear of falling. Well I have fell, I have failed and I shall fall. I›ve fell in love, I›ve fell on my knees, I›ve fell over things and I›ve fell for falling Sad thing is I’m failing to remember have I ever felt fear. I›ve failed many test, I›ve failed my trials and tribulations. I›ve also been told many times I›ve failed to meet qualifications and people›s expectations. And yet I still fall for believing or even knowing if there is fear. I also fall to pieces: I fall for believing someone will catch me if I actually really was to ever fall. But where I ask over and over, where?? And what actually is fear?? Is fear the dark place that always seems to turn to light? Is fear worrying about family or walking the paths I›ve walked many times with no sight? The definition says its an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat. I›ve failed at experiences or remembering if fear I›ve felt yet. I›ve also failed to fall for the failure of fear. I have no fear of failure it seems. Or maybe I am failing or have I failed to acknowledge.

SIDNEY

Tomorrow’s Leaders

AMERICAN IDOL SINGER Sidney Arterbridge was just fifteen when she experienced her most exciting experience in her growing career as a vocalist. Columbus Ohio lit up with an instant buzz once Sidney heard those famous words from American idol judges “You are going to Hollywood!” Aisha Wright and Shay Bella had the opportunity to interview with Sidney at her home to learn just how this experience has affected her life. Q: How does it feel to know that you accomplished something others dream of that is having a shot at being America’s Idol? A: My dad, he is a singer. He has a reggae band called The Flex crew, so you know, growing up, I’ve always been around reggae music and my mom can sing, as well just having music in the household, I really had no choice but to sing, being around it so much it just became my passion.

A: Well, I mean, the feeling is amazing, it just makes me want to do more. It makes me want to just keep going and to keep having that feeling of accomplishment and reach my dreams. Q: How has life changed for you since your appearance on American Idol? A: When I am out some place or if I go somewhere like Target people come up to me, they are like, Hi! I saw you on American idol. I have always performed but I have definitely gotten more performances from this. At school, I get a million and one questions. I walk into class the teachers are clapping for me, like, Oh! Hey! Miss Hollywood! It’s just really different. The recognition I am getting is a big change.

Q: Your dad being the lead singer of a band was that a great inspiration? A. I’ve grown up with him on stage, I sang Reggae with him. Q: When is your birthday? A: March 29 (all ladies were Aries) they are all excited! Sidney asked for a car, she actually got it!

Q: How did you come to find your love of music?

Community

Pink Pearl Magazine

26

In today’s society when you encounter a strong young lady motivated to make a difference in the community the world should know who they are. This woman started an organization called “Educated Girls Rock” in 2012.

highest potential. It was no surprise that the logo of EGR is the infamous “Graduation Cap”, because it symbolizes an accomplishment and every girl should experience that feeling when they walk across the stage in their cap and gown.

We would like to introduce you to Nisha Glenn, Founder/President and CEO of Educated Girls Rock. Here is a brief excerpt of her story. Nisha Glenn is a native of East St. Louis, Illinois, which she calls “The Land Of Can’t Get Right”. She relocated to Saint Louis, Missouri at an early age. Coming from humble beginnings Nisha was raised in an environment where education was not that important, as both her Mother and Father dropped out of school at the age of 16. She knew then that no matter what she was going to break the cycle and finish High School. Not to mention, no one in her immediate family completed high school. Not her aunt, uncle, grandmother, nor grandfather. While in high school, she was faced with a major obstacle she became pregnant with her first child and through determination and perseverance, was able to complete high school and graduate. She proved then that no matter what you are faced with in life you can always overcome.

“The goal of Educated Girl’s Rock (EGR) is simply to make sure that educational opportunities are available to every girl and young woman throughout the nation and inspire them to claim their power within through knowledge and education”

After finishing high school, she worked for several years at Mercantile Bank and then at Verizon Wireless. After years of working and raising her family, she was able to work her way through college and earn her Bachelor in Business Administration at Fontbonne University in Saint Louis in 2008.

Educated Girls Rock had their first opportunity working at Forest Hill Academy, an alternative school in Fulton County, GA where she mentored the young ladies on pursing their dreams and understanding how important it is to graduate from high school. One of the methods I use to help motivate students is to place them in a cap and gown and take their picture. I instill in them that there is pride in wearing the cap and gown and a sense of accomplishment. I want my girls to experience that feeling of self- worth and accomplishment. I want to inspire them all to claim their power within through knowledge and self-awareness.

In 2012, she took a Leap of Faith and opened the doors to Stitches, a women’s boutique in the heart of mid-town Atlanta. She also founded Educated Girls Rock as well as received her Masters in Education in 2013. Educated Girls Rock was founded to enrich and empower girls by providing them with resources and knowledge through education. The inspiration behind (EGR) came from her wanting to see women succeed through education and not placing limits on their goals and dreams.

She is seeking to expand her organization throughout the world. One of her goals will be to motivate students to “Fight to Focus”. Fighting to Focus is an initiative to help motivate students through the distractions and pressures of being a student in school. Accountability, Adversity, and Academics are all of obstacles young girls face while attending school. EGR plans to help coach students through and encourage them along the way.

With the recent success of receiving her Master’s Degree in Education, she continued to impress upon students how important it is to be an educated girl: especially one who Rocks. She also saw this as an outlet to reaching her own

THE STRUGGLE IS REAL: Forming the Habit of Fitness

the gym, I’m fit, I’m running! Not! The social calendar grows and before you know it, you are meeting friends for happy hours, having girls nights out, booking vacations, and chilling in a wonderfully air conditioned abode when Summer turns up the heat. How do I know? Because this is my struggle. If we are lucky, we get to enjoy a smidgen of a “summer body” that we worked on from January to June. Some bodies are better than others, but who cares! It’s summer and we gotta live, right? WRONG. Consistency is key; maintaining activity and good eating habits even in summer will help you stay fit and motivated for the other seasons on the horizon. If you like to detox, cleanse, juice, eat clean (you know all of those New Year buzz words), try to continue doing it or at least form the habit of making better food choices. I guarantee you your body will love and reward you for it. Don’t focus so much on weight loss, but just being healthy. Find and exercise partner that can keep you honest and accountable. Drink plenty of water! As a matter of fact, if you are a soda drinker, work on replacing those sugar and diet sodas with water more often. You will be surprised how quickly you can break the soft drink habit and how much your body will crave water. I’m preaching to myself, but if there is some good information here for you, then feel free to run with it. So to psych myself out this year, I didn’t wait until January to renew my commitment to fitness. I had not vigorously exercised since early Fall, so I finally pulled myself off the couch, took off the fuzzy pajama pants, and recommitted myself in November. I had to make myself feel like I was better than those sloths who were waiting until the New Year. I’m just kidding, but I did get a new gym membership and am spending 4-5 early mornings and/or evenings getting my fitness level back to better than a hibernating bear. The struggle is real, even for me. Happy New Year!

Kimberly Sheneice

It’s the New Year and the gyms are packed. Every person that fell off the wagon earlier in the year are back and pledging their commitment to become fit again Why does this happen year after year? I can’t speak for everybody but I can speak from my experience. I am admittedly a winter exerciser. It’s cold and gray outside. My social life goes into hibernation and I find myself extremely bored. So what better way to pass the time than to spend it working on my body for the upcoming summer! I know, it’s a sad excuse, but it’s real. As soon as the weather breaks we are full of life and excited to participate in every social event the warmer weather brings; and who wants to spend time in a gym? We tell ourselves that we’ll hit the local park and pick up walking or for the more aggressive, running. Yeah! That’s it! I’ve been in

Fashion Designer, Delia Alleyne introduced the line during the September 2015 market week in New York City. The looks include rompers, jackets, funky trousers and that classic little black dress. Delia’s tenure at Trinidad’s Caribbean Academy of Fashion and Design school prepared her for a mentorship working on costume design projects with the famed Caribbean couturieres Meiling Esau. Delia strives to bring an avant-garde genre of fashion design into ready-to-wear by applying unique design details, and using finer fabrics. Delia’s goal is for the “Let’s Paint” collection to become a luxuriant lifestyle brand that is recognized throughout the Caribbean.

“Painting is like a metaphor for life...”, explains Delia. “We are born as blank canvases waiting to be. Then moment by moment, stroke by stroke... We create life’s memories by applying one colorful moment in our life at a time.”

Model Watch: Lauren Arielle

Photographer: Can Bemnett

State your full name. My name is Lauren Arielle Bennett.

my book of life. God gave me looks to sport it, and He gave me everything else to surprise the world once more. My dream career is to do something that shows serious significance to myself as well as others. I grew up loving music. I am in fact, a musician. Being beautiful was just a plus to me. It adds to my flavor of life!

Where were you born and raised? I was born in the small town, called Cambridge, Ohio.
When did you start modeling? I started modeling when I was 18 years old, just after I graduated high school
I got into the industry rather easily because I went to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, which is a very fashion oriented school.

If not, what did you want to be when you grew up? I am still growing! But I knew my whole life I wanted to be a model. It just seemed apart of the plan. And I was right. But I also love movies! Working in production is also a great passion of mine, and I’ve loved working on sets along side my sister. It’s been a very rewarding experience. I love who I am and my work continues to surprise me.

How did you get into this industry? While I was there, I started working on coordinating fashion shows, along with my class, and from there I started working on the runway, as well as promoting and shooting for print.

What is your passion? What is something that drives you to do what you do? My passion is my gratitude towards God and the world, to have the ability to be alive and have the opportunity to change the world. My parents are the biggest reasons I am who I am today. They are my driving force behind my everyday. I wouldn’t be who I am without them. My father always pushed me to believe in my dreams, and my mother has always pushed me to never give up on anything. Between the two, I was destined to do extraordinary things.

Where there any models you looked up to as a child? There were quite a few people I very much looked up to in the modeling industry. I loved Cindy Crawford as a child. I loved what she reflected and how she displayed herself. I loved her authenticity and her tenacity to be natural. And I believe those are ideal qualities in a role model, especially when you work in a world that demands much of the opposite. Was/Is modeling your dream career? Sort of. Modeling is the beginning. It’s like the forward to

Is there a particular artist or designer your would like to work with? If I could work with any photographer, I would LOVE to work with David LaChapelle. He’s my all time favorite photographer and he’s got a gift for fashion, art and pop culture. He’s an incredible artist and truly an asset to the entertainment industry. I’d also love to model for Limited Brands. I worked for them in college and I very much enjoyed it.

will be a much smoother process. Where do you see your career in five years? I see myself probably running my own company (or a few) and probably owning a condo that overlooks a beach or countryside. What are some of your favorite projects you’ve done? Working for publications were quite rewarding. I worked private parties for both GQ and Glamour Magazine, and they were some of my more interesting projects. I also loved working for Budweiser. The company is all about people and being involved in their fun atmosphere.

What type of modeling do you do? I am a professional swimsuit model. As far as the modeling industry goes though, I specialize in print, fashion, promotional, events, catalogue and runway. Do you have any limits to what type of work you will take? Yes, I will not do nudes. Not if I can help it anyway. As for everything else, I can and will do stunts or implied nudes. I’m just very professional about my work and take it very seriously.

What do you think is your best feature? My best feature is probably my eyes. They’re three different colors. In some photos, they appear orange, and in others, they can appear shades of hunter green and emerald.

What were your obstacles you faced as an aspiring model? A great deal of my obstacles pertained to a model’s work ethic. To be in this business, one has to work really hard. I had to develop this ability to never give up and to continue, no matter the circumstances. People think modeling is easy; it’s everything but. It’s being “on” all the time. There’s no “off” switch.

Besides modeling, what other skills do you have? I can act, sing, and dance my way through any situation! Honestly, having a talent for acting has helped a great deal. I’m pretty convincing when people think I’m upset (good chance I’m just trying to get my way) so crying on queue is a gift on it’s own lol. I also can play the piano. I started playing when I was just three years of age, and my passion of music just blossomed over the years. I’ve been grateful for the gifts I’ve been given. Sharing those gifts and talents with the world has most certainly been a privilege of mine.

What advice can you give young ladies seeking a modeling career? Work hard. All the time: never stop working hard. Always take jobs. Build your portfolio, and continue to make yourself better. Everything will get easier later, but for right now, you have to give it everything you’ve got. Doing what you love isn’t easy, but it’s not supposed to be. Work hard. Make sacrifices. That’s how you’ll make it to the top.

What are your upcoming projects? Ohhhhhh the possibilities are endless! There may be a trip to Colombia, or India involved. There also may be a few television shows packed in there as well.

How long before your big break happened? Months. I went to a commercial arts school, which made it simpler for me. Sometimes it takes years. Modeling is definitely a confidence builder. If you don’t have the confidence when you get into it, it will take years to develop that and channel it to make one’s self better. For those individuals who already have the confidence, work will come more easily to them, and creating their ideal environment

Is there anything else your would like to share? I’m really grateful to be able to share my talents with the world. I’m glad I can be featured in this publication and be able to give something back about my experience in the modeling/entertainment industry.

A Man’s Perspective with a 2. A lot of women set their sites on a man who has money, just a little note there’s a little unknown fact ladies if a man has money before you came into the picture, why does he need you now I mean you didn’t help him make the money, so why should you be the one he spends it on, oh don’t get me wrong he will spend it on you for a little while he’ll buy you clothes take you out to eat everyday even let you spend the night hell he might let you move it ,but you have to keep in your mind is when he’s tired of you ,you’re gone and he will be like Jay Z is on to the next one.. Here’s a little bit more knowledge ladies that most people won’t give you but I will have you ever seen a semi attractive girl with a ugly ass guy and you say to yourself how the hell did that happen well he’s got money they call them gold diggers now that part you probably already knew, but here is the part I’m sure you never thought about if he’s ugly guy has money he’s probably pretty smart in order to make the money ,right so check this out, every night he’s taking you out to eat every night you’re going to the movies in order a large popcorn now you feel like you got the best of everything he’s ugly so you know he’s not going anywhere and he’s got money, but this is the part you didn’t think about if he’s taking you out every night and eating all kinds of fattening ass food what is he really doing? well let me tell you he’s making sure you can’t go anywhere either as you sit there packing on the pounds thinking we’re going out to eat again he’s making you more and more unattractive so now you can’t go anywhere, soon you look like you’re about to be on WWE and he’s on to the next chick because as long as he’s got money there will always be a better looking much younger and now in better shape women since you allowed him to feed you every damn night and didn’t bother going by a gym ,so sad as it may be you kind of played yourself and no I’m not writing this to sound mean I’m just trying to enlighten some of you, not everybody’s going to listen they’re too busy having fun to realize what is really going on .its sad really that all it takes is somebody with money to make you forget you said you wanted a good man the person with money automatically becomes a good man because he’s buying you stuff he’s wooing you, but when you wake up from this dream and find out that what you thought was a 10 is nothing but a 2 and find that the 8 that you left behind is now somebody else is 10 then nobody wants to hear you talk about all good men are taken or in jail and in the words of Forrest Gump that’s all I have to say about that.

Jack Shepherd

STOP

Playing the Victim.

In this world today so many women always say the same things,” All good men are taken or in jail” well why are you looking for a taken man and when have you ever seen a good man who is in jail. The truth of the matter is so many women play the victim to take away from the fact that they’re not as innocent as they really claim to be , they want you to think ,oh poor me I am so alone no one to help me, no one to love me ,no one to take care of me. But in all actuality if you did have a man who did all those things would you really, really respect this guy for doing such things, now I can’t speak for every woman and every man out there who is reading this publication but I can tell you about what I’ve witnessed in my life, I’ve witnessed a woman act like they need someone to care about them, they need someone to help them and the second that they get that they start feeling like they could do better and what they end up doing they end up walking away from somebody that took time and effort to care about them, for real but now your self esteem is at an all time high and you forget about the person that help get you there and walk away and 9 times out of 10 once you do that you’ll find out that the person that you left them for is not really interested in you except for one thing and once they get that one thing a few times then you’ll find yourself back in a land of misery because you’ve been dumped then you’re back to playing the victim now you’re back to same all men are dogs all the good men are gone or gay or in jail ,but the truth is you had a good man but you thought you could do better you had an 8 but you wanted a 10 and ended up
