Welcome to Learn2print

Learn2print is a leading training provider to the printing and graphic communications industry. We offer a national provision and we function from our headquarters in the rural setting of Nottinghamshire.

We work with employers of all sizes offering both government funded and full cost courses, from a specifically designed short course tailored to meet your needs to full advanced apprenticeships.

Learn2print hold regular classes across the United Kingdom to ensure access to training for all, delivering formally recognised qualifications through internationally recognised awarding bodies GQA and Highfields Qualifications. We have a team of tutors who are vocationally experienced within the print sector and hold formally recognised teaching qualifications. We are audited for the quality of our provision under Ofsted, lead awarding bodies and we are recognised by the Matrix standard in providing quality throughout our provision.

Training and qualifications for the print industry.

Apprenticeships in Print and Design

The Print Operative Standard - Level 2

Learn2print offer the very latest apprenticeship programme designed for those wishing to become qualified in the print and graphic design industry. The Print Operative Standard is designed to allow individuals working in Pre-press, Press and Post Finishing operations, the opportunity to gain a formal qualification.

Who is it for?

The printing industry offers a wide range of opportunities and career pathways. The apprenticeship in print is for those wishing to start in the industry and will be trained in one of the following three areas.

Pre-press: This production area is for those wishing to get involved in the creating of digital artwork. It will suit you if you have an interest in graphic design and enjoy creating jobs. You will design and make jobs ready for print and look to get them approved by the customer.

Press: This is for individuals who will contribute to the set up and makeready of the printing equuipment, the application of ink to the material or substrate. It covers the diverse range of print processes to meet all industry needs.

Print Finishing: For an individual looking to start a career as a print finisher. The creative individual will work hands-on using a range of equipment and devices to complete the end product, such as making a book or a box.

The Course

Duration: Expected 24 months plus 3 months for the end point assessment by GQA.

Attendance: Monthly day release at one of our classes which will include some virtual learning.

Course Overview: The course expects all learners to have a basic knowledge of the printing industry. It will expect all learners to study a range of core topics before moving on to subject specific knowledge elements. You will be appointed a workbased mentor from the outset and both your mentor and tutor will work with you, giving you the skills and knowledge to carry out your job. From the begining you will create a detailed learning plan and you will be regularly reviewed as you develop your skills, knowledge and behaviour.

Assessment: The new apprenticeships have moved to end point assessments (EPA). This means that you will study on your course for up to 24 months and then you will be put forward to the awarding body GQA, for external assesment.

The assessment consists of the following: 20 multiple choice questions (an online test).

50 minute professional discussion (where you must present a small portfolio of work).

120 minute workplace observation.

Entry Requirements: To gain access to the course, you will need to have achieved the following GCSE or similar: Maths grade E/3 or equivalent. English grade E/3 or equivalent.

Funding: The funding for apprenticeships will depend on the on whether you are a levy or non-levy paying company. All those that pay into the government levy will spend the money from the levy pot. The smaller companies will recieve funding toward the cost of the delivery of the apprenticeship and only have to contribute 5% of the total cost involved.

The Print Technician Standard - Level 3

Learn2print offer the very latest apprenticeship programme designed for those wishing to become qualified in the print and graphic design industry. The Print Technician Standard is designed to allow individuals working in Pre-press, Press and Post Finishing operations, the opportunity to gain a formal qualification.

Who is it for?

The printing industry offers a wide range of opportunities and career pathways. The apprenticeship in print is for those working in one of the following three areas who will work toward taking responsibility for the set up and operation of a job.

Pre-press: This production area is for those wishing to get involved in the creating of colour digital artwork. It will suit you if you have an interest in graphic design and enjoy creating the job. Often working alongside clients to ensure you interpret what they want and make it print ready.

It also includes those who wish to work in creation of image carriers used across the range of print processes.

Press: This is for individuals who are involved in the set up and makeready of the printing equipment, the application of ink to the material or substrate. It covers the diverse range of print processes and requires the individual to set up and control the quality of a job.

Print Finishing: Often for the creative individual that works hands-on using a range of equipment and devices to complete the end product, such as making a book or a box.

Learning Support.

As part of your apprenticeship programme you will be expected to continue to develop your Maths and English skills. Alongside your course tutors, we have designated staff who will support you in these areas. A detailed initial assessment at the begining of the apprenticeship will help us identify any specific learning needs and those that need continued support to achieve your goals. Learn2print have dedicated support staff in place to help you.

Short Courses

Learn2print produce a range of short courses for individuals and companies. These are developed to meet personal and industry needs, often one to three days at a time. The Learner Award.

Each year Learn2print have introduced a number of awards. It is with great pride we celebrate the student of the year award. This was introdcued to acknowledge the distance travelled and the hard work and determination of our learners.

The award for the Learn2print Learner of the year 2022 goes to....

2022 Student of the year

Learner of the Year 2022.

The award goes to Jamie Bradbury. Jamie is a machine print operator at Eviosys and is coming close to the end of the learning programme. He has been recognised for producing work at an excellent standard. During his time with Learn2print, he has also achieved his functional skills in both Maths and English.

Launched in 2020 the group was established with a vision to inspire, encourage and promote women in the graphics and printing industry.

GQA National Vocational

Qualification

(NVQ) in Print

Perhaps an apprenticeship is not right for you? Learn2print offer NVQ’s across the print industry which enables you to remain in the place of work. This is a performance based qualification for those wishing to get recognistion for the skills they have attained or working toward.

It is delivered over 12 months and is awarded by GQA at both Level 2 and Level 3.

Available in Pre-press, Press Production and Post Press.

Most employers are unable to offer this type of training in-house, which is where we can help meet your requirements with regards to Health and Safety. This will help ensure your staff become more competent within their job roles and fully understand roles and responsibilities.

Learn2print are dedicated to ensuring all our staff, learners and employers understand the importance of Safeguarding. All the courses we offer give time to ensuring learners are fully aware of what challenges they will face in today’s uncertain society. This is done through taught sessions, online learning activity and information handouts. We believe we have a duty of care for learners and have policies and procedures in place which are practised through day to day delivery, ensuring our learners are kept safe.

Employer Award 2022.

MacroArt - Cambridge

Learn2print each year hand out a recognised prestigous award to industry. It is given to the most supporting employer recognised by both the learner and tutors from Learn2print. The award is sponsored by Learn2print and the awarding body GQA. The 2022 award has been given to MacroArt - Digital Sign and Display printers. Specific recognition was handed to Mentor - Lee Garnett for his one to one support and direction of the apprentices throughout the course.
