About Our Golf Club Bicester Hotel, Golf and Spa, originally Chesterton Golf Club, was built in 1973 and designed by Mr. R. Stagg. The golf club was purchased by the Payne family in 2000 and they have taken the whole facility into the 21st century.

Hole 1, 363 yards, par 4 Accuracy, not distance, is required off the tee. A conservative approach to the centre of the green is wise, with water right and left.
Hole 2, 346 yards, par 4 A dead straight hole back towards the Health Club, aim for the centre of the fairway for the best approach and beware the bunkers at either side of the dog-leg. When the flag is on the left side of the green, a precise shot is required.

Club selection can be tricky due to the protection of the hole from the trees behind and to the right, an extra club is generally required.
Hole 4, 440 yards, par 4 Aim for the bridge on this superb, testing par 4. A dog-leg left, long hitters may cut the corner. Club selection is vital for the second shot over the lake. If in doubt, lay up to the left.
Hole 5, 484 yards, par 5 The large bunker on the right is in play for long hitters, while others have to contend with the lateral water hazard. The fairway narrows, so an accurate approach is required.
Hole 6, 459 yards, par 4 Fade your drive away from the bunker on the left for optimum position. The green is tiny, so accuracy is again all-important.
Hole 7, 488 yards, par 5 A nice wide fairway. Long hitters can reach in two, but beware of the hidden bunker on the right and water on the left.
Hole 8, 125 yards, par 3 Club selection is important on this short but tricky hole, which is guarded by two bunkers at the front. The front half of the green also has a significant downhill slope which can leave you with an awkward putt.

The Men’s section compete for 24 trophies throughout the year as well as two monthly medals or Stableford competitions. The two monthly medal competitions are played between the months of April and September with one being midweek to accommodate any 5 day members and one on a Saturday or Sunday. The Stablefords also have a midweek and weekend event and take place from October to March.
Club Sections & Competitions We currently have four different sections here at the Golf Club; Men, Ladies, Seniors and Juniors. All four sections having their own exclusive competition schedule as well as many Mixed competition events.

There are also a number of friendly Men’s matches taking place throughout the year with other local clubs. In addition to the friendly matches the club also competes in two local leagues, the Shaws Scratch League and the Central 7s League, in which we enter two teams. There are also some ad hoc fun competitions run throughout the year. Every ability and type of golfer is catered for here at Bicester, from social golf to being involved competitively and representing the club locally in matches and competitions. The Ladies section is very similar. They have 13 trophy competitions as well as the monthly medal or Stableford competitions. The Ladies also play a number of matches against other local clubs. The medals and Stablefords are run as a weekly competition so again 5 and 7 day members are catered for.
The age criteria for a Senior is 55 years or over. The Seniors play the course regularly during the week especially on a Tuesday and Thursday. The Seniors section compete for 10 exclusive trophies and enjoy 12 medal and Stableford competitions. The Seniors can, of course, enter any of the Men’s competitions. Although the Seniors don’t compete in any league events they do have a very active match fixture list with matches against 10 local clubs playing both home and away. We currently have a strong Junior section with around 30 active juniors. They have four exclusive trophies and are also eligible to play in any of the Men’s competitions. We have a healthy and vibrant club with an active membership, this is supported by the excellent team of Teaching Professionals with experience and specialities to cover all requirements. We have a number of social events throughout the year ranging from the formal Summer Ball to the informal nine-hole Texas Scramble held on the last Friday in the month.

Putting is the one area of the game that an everyday player could be as good, if not better than any of the top 100 golfers in the world. It is often an overlooked skill and one which, if perfected, can make a huge difference not only to a player’s handicap but to their overall outlook on the game and their confidence on the golf course. Jamie offers a one-day intensive putting course where your current stroke will be recorded and analyzed before you are taught the stroke required for consistent ball striking which should result in more holed putts, better distance control and less of those dreaded three putts.
Peter and Glenn focus on all areas of the game, offering 30-minute and one-hour lessons with video available if desired and nine and 18-hole on-course playing lessons. The club also runs a series of clinics throughout the year aimed at improving the golfing experience for Juniors, Ladies and Seniors. Glenn runs a junior clinic on Saturday mornings between 10am-11am. These clinics are open to members and nonmembers. There is no need to book, just arrive at the Pro Shop at about 9.55am. These clinics are a very fun and an enjoyable way for boys and girls to start golf. The age ranges from 4 to 15. How to Find Us Bicester Hotel, Golf and Spa is situated in rolling Oxfordshire countryside beside the village of Chesterton, less than three miles from Bicester and around 14 miles north of Oxford. For satellite navigation purposes, our postcode is OX26 1TE.
From the M40 Motorway - Exit the M40 at junction 9 and proceed North on the A41 dual carriageway towards Bicester. Take the exit at the roundabout signposted Chesterton (if you go past Wyevale Garden Centre you have come too far). Follow the signs to Chesterton turning right at the T-junction and first right again, over the bridge following signs into the village and at the T-junction, with the Red Cow public house on the right, turn left. Head out of the village and Bicester Hotel Golf & Spa is on the righthand side, approximately half a mile out of the village. From Bicester - Take the A41 south towards Oxford and junction 9 of the M40. From the dual carriageway take the exit signposted Chesterton at the roundabout (just past Wyevale Garden Centre).
