The beautiful parkland course set in Chapel-en-le-Frith known as ‘THE CAPITAL OF THE PEAK DISTRICT’ offers a challenging test for all golfers combined with an easy walking course. Chapel-en-le-Frith Golf Club is located in the High Peak, 13 miles southeast of Stockport, close to Buxton and Macclesfield
The course offers a variety of challenges designed to test golfers of all standards. The beautifully presented greens are medium paced and vary between flat and significantly undulating. The course uses many natural features (lakes, rivers and trees) to enhance the superbly designed layout which is regularly used for county representative matches.

Club History
One of the best kept secrets in the Peak District
The original golf club was founded in 1905 by Mr Ritchie of Bowden Hall, Mr Gaston Lepeton and several local gentry.
Although official documents from this period have not yet been found, we believe that the inaugural meeting and founding of the club took place in ‘the Hanging Gate’. The course was originally on the north side of the old A6 and, as far as is known, extended from the Cockyard to Roeside and Crossing Road. Later, land was rented on the south side of the road – part of the existing front nine, of which part was designed in 1912/13 by a Mr E M Baertrem of Manchester and redesigned in 1921.
1995 saw the building of a new Clubhouse opened by the Duke of Devonshire, while 2005 saw the club celebrate its centenary year with a host of special events. Most recently, we were proud to be named the GolfMark Club of the Year for 2009.

The Course
One of the best kept secrets in the Peak District
The 18-hole course at Chapel-en-le Frith Golf Club measures 6,434 yards from the white tees, 6,134 yards from the visitors’ yellow tees (both par 72) and 5,499 from the ladies’ red tees (par 73). It represents an interesting and enjoyable challenge, in the most beautiful countryside imaginable. Chapel are continually working with STRI, the UK’s foremost agronomists, to ensure the highest standard of general course presentation and in particular high quality and consistent greens.
The Front Nine The golf course is situated on the valley floor between Chapel-en-le-Frith and Whaley Bridge with beautiful views of the surrounding peaks and ridges. Set on the edge of the Combs Reservoir this is a great front half which was redesigned in 2002 and which contains many interesting holes. The par-4 5th presents a true golfing challenge. The brave golfer can opt to cut the dogleg by driving over the field and the trees to be rewarded, if successful, by a simple 8 or 9 iron to the green. Those who opt for the safer route are faced with a driver and a 3 wood to cover the same distance. The most beautiful hole on the course is undoubtedly the par-5 8th. It has the reservoir
running along its length and as you play directly down the valley, with the hills rising around you, the views are truly breathtaking.

The Back Nine
If you are lucky enough to come off the ninth with your score still intact, there is still plenty of work ahead as the back nine at Chapel is considered to be amongst the most testing in Derbyshire. All of the holes offer individual challenges, like the 14th, where you are asked to play across the pond and stop the ball within a few yards to have a reasonable chance of making a birdie. And, if you are still in contention after the fifteenth, you are faced with a real test over the final three holes with two long, tricky par fours and a par five to finish.

Chapel-en-le-Frith Golf Club has a very active membership of more than 500. Our men’s, ladies’, seniors’ and junior sections offer a full competition fixtures schedule aimed at players of all standards. We also run several friendly events and have a varied social calendar and new members are made to feel most welcome.
There are a variety of membership categories which we hope cater for all needs and budgets. Our top-ofthe-range Platinum membership features unrestricted course access seven days a week, entry rights to all club competitions and the chance to represent the club in friendly and competitive matches.

The men enjoy many internal competitions and play some team events against other clubs. They enter three teams in the Spondon Trophy, a regional knockout competition whose format is singles matchplay, with seven players forming a team.

Another annual competition entered is the Derbyshire Foursomes, Chapel being delighted to have won the Division Two final in 2011.
There are five or six “Majors” each season, notable occasions which are marked by the winner collecting a trophy and having his name go up on one of the club’s honours board.

every Thursday morning and there are regular internal competitions. The Seniors team of 16 play friendly matches against local teams throughout the season. Several popular Open competitions are also arranged throughout the year for both gentlemen and mixed pairings, with visitor prizes guaranteed. Knockout competitions take place both on the course and in the snooker room. There are regular away and exchange days as well as social evenings arranged too. Ladies Chapel-en-le-Frith Ladies are a friendly and welcoming group who play most of their competitions in the form of
Medals and Stablefords on Wednesday. Ladies unable to play during the week may elect to play their competitions on Sundays in the ‘Business Ladies’ events. In addition a number of EWGA Medals are held on Sundays in which eligible lady members may play. Chapel Ladies are proud to field Silver and Bronze teams in the Derbyshire Ladies Golf Association League and have achieved a measure of success in each division. The Bronze team won the Derbyshire Foursomes in 2010 and reached the semi-final in 2011. In addition many friendly matches are arranged for those ladies who don’t wish to be quite so competitive!
The season is interspersed with fun events such as a Lady Presidents competition, Lady Captains Day, Invitation and Exchange Day where the group enjoys the fun of playing another course followed by dinner and prize giving. For those Ladies wishing to keep a handicap but are unable to play a full round we offer a regular 9-hole competition Stableford played each Wednesday for ten weeks during the height of the golfing season. A number of mixed competitions are organised by the Ladies which take place mostly at Bank Holiday times. These are well supported, great fun and make enjoyable social events for everyone. 23

Visitors are welcome throughout the week and can look forward to an excellent round, followed by some of our renowned catering. Competitions at Chapel are normally held on a Sunday which means we can accommodate societies and visitors on Saturday afternoons.
The course is ideal for visitors of all standards. From the yellow tees, the course measures 6,134 yards but often feels longer! The layout is surprisingly flat and makes full use of rivers, lakes and woods to provide a fair but exciting challenge. The 5th hole is loved or hated by all of our visitors; you decide how far over the trees to aim! A well-hit draw leaves a mid-iron to the green and the chance of a par, if you can two-putt the undulating green.

Juniors
One of the best kept secrets in the Peak District
Chapel-en-le Frith Golf Club has a very active junior section and welcomes juniors of any age or ability. We were very proud to have been awarded GolfMark Club of the Year in 2009 by the English Golf Union as part of the GolfMark scheme which recognises junior and beginnerfriendly golf clubs.
Our aim is to encourage juniors of all ages to learn how to play, how to behave properly on the golf course and, most importantly, to have some fun! We run junior competitions, leagues and sponsor coaching. We organise a superb programme of events for all our junior members. Juniors are encouraged to participate in our coaching schemes that combine great fun, good learning and healthy competition. More experienced juniors with official handicaps are allowed to play in adult competitions. Juniors compete in the Derbyshire Junior League and the Derbyshire and Cheshire League. In 2010 we represented Derbyshire in the two-day all-England
Junior Club Championship Jonny Pearce, our friendly Head Professional, and his team can get your child started on the right track, hopefully inspiring a healthy interest in the great outdoors and our great sport that can last a lifetime. Junior Membership is very attractively priced and gives full access to the course as well as entry into the many junior competitions that run through the year.

The clubhouse complements the splendid surroundings of Chapel-en-le Frith Golf Club. From the lounge and balcony, you can enjoy views of the 11th hole and the beautiful Peak District scenery beyond. It is the perfect location to complete your day’s golf. The clubhouse bar and catering is open to nonmembers daily throughout the year. Why not pop in for a coffee or some lunch with friends? An extensive and mouthwatering daily menu is available and can be downloaded from our website, www.chapelgolf.co.uk to give some sort of idea of the tasty fare on offer.
Perhaps you fancy a minted lamb burger with mint mayonnaise, a black pudding and bacon salad or Derbyshire oatcake filled with mature Cheddar and bacon? There is a full breakfast menu, golfer’s favourites such as chip butties or battered onion rings, a selection of hot and cold sandwiches and some very tempting desserts.
Some of the most popular events include live music, a visit from Father Christmas accompanied by the singing of carols and a traditional New Year’s Eve get-together. One of the best kept secrets in the Peak District Functions, Weddings and Meetings The clubhouse is an ideal venue for a private function, such as a wedding, christening, birthday party or other social occasions. We are able to accommodate up to 75 for a waitress-served meal or up to 90 for a self service buffet-style meal.
Our Catering Manager, Simon Hibbert, prides himself on the personal touch Chapel gives to its service and will be pleased to meet any function organiser to give them a tour of the premises and discuss any requirements they may have.
If you wish to hold a meeting or business function we can accommodate this too. The room can be easily divided into private sections and set out in a format suitable for your event. We regularly hold charity lunches and events here at Chapel.
We are becoming an increasingly popular destination for weddings and offer a complete package whereby drinks on arrival, a wedding breakfast for 50 guests, an evening buffet for 80, the flowers and a disco are all included for one very reasonable price.

How to Find and Contact Us Chapel-en-le-Frith Golf Club is to be found 13 miles south-east of Stockport, close to the beautiful town of Buxton. It is served by a network of other roads passing through idyllic countryside. For satellite navigation purposes our postcode is SK23 9UH. Directions to the club From Manchester Take the A6 Buxton road from Stockport. When you reach the Whaley Bridge roundabout, turn right into Whaley Bridge. At the Horwich End crossroads (White Horse public house on your right-hand side) turn left, signposted Chapel-en-le-Frith. Approximately 2 miles along this road the Club entrance is on your left. From the M1 Exit at Junction 29, signposted Chesterfield. Then take the A619 towards Chesterfield and signposted Buxton. At Baslow, take the A623 sign to Chapel-en-le-Frith. Continue until you arrive at the golf club on the right hand side (just after the Hanging Gate public house). There is ample car parking available to guests adjacent to the clubhouse. Public transport The nearest railway station is Chapel-en-le-Frith, which is around a mile and a half, or a five-minute taxi ride away. Northern Rail runs hourly services from here to Manchester Piccadilly (journey time around 44 minutes), Buxton (10 minutes) and Stockport (31 minutes). 34
