We solve our clients’ complex business problems, and devise strategies to help them succeed.

Investment Management Our Investment Management business is often a natural extension of relationships we have with Corporate Finance and Merchant Banking clients. We offer objective advice and active investment management to wealthy individuals and families. We take a holistic view of our clients’ wealth, never a simplistic snapshot of a portfolio. Our investment management is global in reach, and all research and investment decisions are done in house.
Bespoke funding can be provided when a creative short term lending solution is required, be that for M&A (MBO or MBI), working capital, bridging a specific event, restructuring or when long term funding is delayed. We will also underwrite deals, offer letters of credit and guarantees. HISTORY Founded in 1909, Cowes Golf Club was designed by famous golf course architect, Hamilton Stutt, and was formally part of the Ward Estate.
Lockyer, played in a challenge match against Osborne professional, Stanley S Jacobs, with Lockyer winning the match and, in the process, setting a course record of 71.
On Thursday 22nd July 1909 Cowes GC was opened on the picturesque grounds of Northwood-park.
The clubhouse was extended in 1923 before a period of course developments began. While some were to make general improvements to the course, others were merely to preserve it.
The first clubhouse was constructed on July 31st, costing only ÂŁ500 to build and furnish, with money to spare to improve the course and upgrade the course maintenance equipment. In June 1911 the Cowes professional, Percy J 6 | www.cowesgolfclub.co.uk
Building developments to Baring Road in the 1930s meant a number of greens were relocated, while bombs were dropped on the course during World War II, which prompted
redevelopments to the 1st and 9th greens among others. Following the war, golf clubs across the Isle of Wight struggled to regain their members and the lack of players in the late 1940s and early ‘50s caused Cowes and several other clubs to run into severe financial problems. After recovering from the post-war problems, the original clubhouse suffered a fire that seriously damaged most of the building in 1963, prompting the building of a new clubhouse in October the same year.
Several different course arrangements were tried between 1968-1972 but all were deemed to have unacceptable flaws. It was back to the drawing board and at a General Meeting it was decided that the design of the course should not be made by well-meaning members but by an outside professional.
changes throughout the 1960s and 70s, even more modifications were due when disaster struck again, as another fire caused the clubhouse to burn down. In 1983, thanks to the help of members, staff and financial assistance from outside bodies, our third clubhouse was opened two and a half years after the fire.
The upshot was that J Hamilton Stutt was approached to design the course; a job he willingly accepted.
Despite the recurring tragedy, one positive to rise out of the fires was the club logo. The image depicts a double-headed Phoenix emerging out of fire, symbolically representing the club’s rise from our clubhouse fires.
While the course had undergone a number of
The club celebrated its centenary in 2009 and after experiencing our fair share of misfortune throughout the past 100 years, we are now well versed in dealing with adversity. Unlike some clubs, Cowes Golf Club has not only survived but also celebrated its centenary in a robust condition. It has a healthy membership of both sexes, a beautiful golf course, well maintained by our Green Keeper as well as an impressive modern clubhouse with picturesque views across the Isle of Wight.

MEMBERS’ GOLF Members at Cowes Golf Club enjoy a full programme of golf throughout the year. There are fixtures against other clubs, together with much competition to be enjoyed alongside fellow members, some for silverware and some of a more social nature. There is always something to suit your handicap, age and golfing desire at Cowes Golf Club and you will certainly not be short of playing opportunities.
Men The men’s section at Cowes Golf Club is strong on competitive golf both within the club and with other golf clubs and leagues. The men field a team in the Isle of Wight Foursomes League. This is a scratch Foursomes competition that sees matches played over 18 holes, with each match consisting of three games. This is a competition we have faired well in over the past two decades, winning five consecutive titles from 1992-96 and again from 1999-2003.
The men field a team in an Isle of Wight competition called the Haworth Cup, however, their main focus is in the Isle of Wight Inter-Club League in which they finished runners up last year. The men’s side also play a number of friendlies throughout the season against other local clubs, while there is also a keen focus on social golf where the only thing on offer is renewing friendships and perhaps a drink in the bar afterwards for the winner.

Choose from an individually priced menu containing a number of choices depending on the time of day you wish to play.
We have a range of catering options available starting with coffee and a bacon roll on arrival before a round of 18. We would recommend, however, choosing the allday package, which includes coffee and a bacon roll on arrival, followed by a round of golf, before a three-course lunch with coffee to follow. Longest drive and nearest the pin markers can be provided and our well-stocked Accessories Stand has everything you need for prizes, while our office, Clubhouse and staff are on hand to assist
you to ensure that your outing runs smoothly and that everyone has a memorable day. Prices are very reasonable and highly competitive and we guarantee you and your group a day to remember. We are meticulous over detail and deliver the complete package that consistently exceeds the expectations of visitors or guests.
