Q How much of the club’s annual revenue comes through sponsorship, corporate and commercial income and are you meeting your targets as such? A Our total income, including match day hospitality, is around £1m per annum and we have worked really hard to build up a club of loyal sponsors who love their cricket and appreciate the exposure it can give their business. We are keen to grow, especially the non-match day side of things and we have ambitious targets for the future.

Q Has that revenue been affected by the economic downturn and, if so, more than you expected? A Not really as we have invested heavily in our facility with an £3m development programme and we have invested heavily in what we offer with improved food and service to match the better facility. We have to work really hard to win our share of the commercial spend and our priority is to make sure that once you come here you really want to come back.

Q How much easier is it to sell sponsorship and such like now the club has such good facilities for entertaining? It is never easy! However, you can help yourself by making your sponsors feel part of the Sussex family and this is where we believe we are unique. With our Boundary Club offering great informal networking it is a great place for businesses to meet and mingle and enjoy each other’s company . . . and then hopefully invest a little more in being part of the “family” Q How easy is it to come up with new innovations to attract the corporate spend? A There are always new ideas – quite often more than our small team can deliver in one go! This year we are keen to give businesses, schools and clubs the full cricket experience to “Prepare Like a Pro” - a great team-building event housed at the Indoor School or on the outfield at the PROBIZ County Ground. Q How do you see the finances of county cricket generally compared to when you started in your job? A We are definitely on the up and that can only be good for cricket. We are pretty much a “not-for-profit” organisation in that every penny we make is invested back into cricket either at the professional, recreational or community level – so when you come here you are not only hiring a great venue but supporting the development of the sport across the region. Cricket is quite small compared to football but we have a sustainable business model, based on a good team – on and off the pitch – and great facilities

Q Can you see a county club going to the wall? A It is always possible as in any other walk of life. A poor business, or one which has over-stretched itself, is always at risk . . . and in the business jungle perhaps that is the way it should be. Even though there is a huge amount of goodwill to cricket clubs we can’t be complacent. However, as a debt free business we are the best shape of all 18 of the first-class counties in many respects

Q What are your main aims in the next 12 months in terms of developing the business side of the club? A To get as many people as possible enjoying our fabulous new ground – both on match days and for their special events. And a successful cricket team does help build the feelgood factor so parading some silverware would be nice! Q What in your time as CEO has been you and your staff’s biggest achievement in terms of the sponsorship and corporate part of the business? A Our big achievement is our retention rates really. It is tough to get new sponsors so when you have them it is vital you keep them especially in these tough economic times. Our loyal band turn up, has a great time and come back and that is in no small part due to the great team we have here. The players and coaches support our commercial team by wandering around to meet and greet whenever they can. As we grow, it is vital we keep that special family feel to the place as that is what makes this club so unique and worth supporting.

Trevor oversees the entire commercial team and their activities, managing the income streams and driving revenue for Sussex CCC as a whole.

As well as managing the unique Players Club, the former Sussex batsman also organises our ‘Where Cricket Meets’ dinners which have attracted a number of popular sporting figures over the past two years.

James is your main contact for the Boundary Club, Sussex CCC’s own unique networking club. Responsible for organising and managing match-day hospitality, James is also the point of contact for all the major sponsors at the club.

Matt is your main contact for all perimeter board advertising. He is also responsible for organising and managing matchday hospitality as well as co-ordinating all business sponsorships including match sponsorship during each season.

Sussex’s media officer liaises with many of the club’s sponsors. Adam also uses the social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter to keep our supporters and sponsors up to date with many of our followers.

new fully equipped gymnasium has been built as part of the ground redevelopment at The PROBIZ County Ground, Hove. An extension to the Farnrise Indoor School last year has allowed for the new facilities to be installed

The gym can boast two squat racks, two lifting platforms, various benches and machines along with dumbells, kettlebells and a heavy punch bag. This allows not only the professional squad but also the Academy and other young playing members of Sussex CCC to train on a wide variety of fitness qualities, all within the Indoor School, and an added bonus that this can all be done with an impressive view of the ground. It has already made a huge difference, allowing us to really increase the standards we demand of the players. A state of the art hydrotherapy pool has also been installed in the lower part of the building. This is often also known as an â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;endlessâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; pool which allows players to swim against an imaginary tide. It has been extremely useful in helping us to rehabilitate the players and perform aerobic training with them. The water flow can be increased to a very fast 52sec per 100m! With Radius Physiotherapy moving into the South Stand, it has freed up more areas within the Indoor School for video and technical analysis, which has been particularly useful during the winter with many of the playing squad based around the globe. It gives a proper base for our video analysts to work from and offers a close proximity to the playing staff.

1839 Hospitality and Events, named after the year the Club was formed 173 years ago, have been aided by the refurbishments and improvements that have been made to the ground over the past 18 months. The fully adaptable, modern multi-module BrightonandHoveJobs. com Boundary Rooms were built in early 2010 and whilst the major ground redevelopment took place during the winter of 2011-12, with the construction of the South-West Stand, South Stand and PROBIZ Media Centre, the Spen Cama Pavilion underwent a huge refurbishment. It now comprises of the spacious Long Room and the charming Dining Room, with a brand new and elegant entrance at the back of the Pavilion further enhancing the facilities. WHERE CRICKET MEETS BUSINESS The Boundary Club is Sussex CCC’s very own networking club. The aim of the initiative is to bring together likeminded individuals on a regular basis for networking whilst enjoying a three-course lunch, guest speakers and some first-class cricket action at The PROBIZ County Ground, Hove. Members meet approximately nine times over the course of the season with the majority coinciding with a first class Sussex fixture. The Boundary Club has now completed three very successful years and can now boast over 100 members. Young squad learn much from t20 experience MAJOR SPONSOR

n youthful Sussex side were always likely to find things tough when the Sharks competed in the Caribbean t20 tournament in January. The experienced core of the squad – Matt Prior, Murray Goodwin, Monty Panesar, Luke Wright and Ed Joyce – were all absent but this allowed Cricket Manager Mark Robinson to select an exciting squad with some of the players experiencing t20 for the first time in their Sussex careers. Sussex started the tournament by beating the Netherlands at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. As expected away from the traditionally quick surface in

Barbados, the pitch in Antigua was low and slow but the Sharks adapted well and won by 34 runs. Ben Brown, who was to be our most consistent batsman in the tournament, top scored with a run-aball 42 and the Dutch were dismissed for just 91, Naveed Arif Gondal, who had been in action in Pakistan’s domestic T20 tournament, claiming 3 for 12 while Mike Yardy and Chris Liddle took wickets two each. Parking

Within the County Ground Only Sussex Members and those with Disabled Parking permits may park within the Ground and both are on a strictly first come, first served basis as space is very limited. There is a daily fee of £6. The roads adjacent to the County Ground are metered and be aware that on-street parking can be scarce and cars must be parked legally. Norton Road Car Park (Town Hall) Norton Road NCP is opposite Hove Town Hall and a ten-minute walk heading east to the County Ground. MAJOR SPONSOR

From the M23/A23 At the end of the A23 follow the signs for A27 Worthing. Take the by-pass and stay in the left hand lane. At the first slip road take the A2038 sign-posted Hove/Devils Dyke. At the roundabout at the end of the slip road follow the brown tourist information signs to ‘County Cricket Ground’.

From the A27 West

Follow the signs for the A2038 to Hove/Devils Dyke. At the mini roundabout at the end of the slip road turn right and continue over the A27. Then follow the same directions as A2/3M23.

From the A27 East

Hove Station Hove Railway Station is approximately 10 minutes’ walk from the County Ground. Walk down Goldstone Villas Road, turn left and walk straight on, across traffic lights into Eaton Road and the ground is on your left, next to Sussex Cricketer pub. Regular twice-hourly services from Portsmouth and London stop at Hove. From the east, change at Brighton.

THE CASTLE GROUND, ARUNDEL BN18 9LH

Four miles north of Littlehampton and midway between Chichester and Worthing on the A27, the ground can be accessed by following the brown tourist information signs in the town. Arundel Station is approx. 30 minutes’ walk from the ground. Turn right out of the station then follow signs for the town centre and then the cricket ground.
