he Bristol Golf Club is set in an area of historic parkland with stunning views across the Severn Estuary. The magnificent location, with its mature trees and numerous water features, provides the golfer with 18 truly memorable holes. Since its opening in June 2000, the Bristol’s reputation has steadily grown both locally and nationally and the club is well known for not only a great golf course but also for its excellent facilities.

These include an impressive clubhouse, extensive practice facilities and 9-hole par 3 Academy Course, affectionately known as the “Little Bristol”, which is perfect for anyone new to the game. The clubhouse itself is very well appointed and offers inspiring views out over this course. With our facilities, caring and courteous staff and our attention to detail, The Bristol has become a popular choice to host wedding receptions and functions of all kinds. The venue also provides the ideal location for the corporate customer. Situated just off Junction 17 of the M5, we are easily accessible from all directions in the South West. The Course

espite its relatively tender years, The Bristol has already gained a reputation for providing one of the best golfing challenges in the South West.

Set in 200 acres and built to USGA specification, the golf course follows the natural contours of the parkland landscape and offers 18 individual holes with water featuring on ten of them. From the white tees, the layout stretches to 6,111 yards, playing to a par of 70. The club received favourable reviews when it played host to professionals from all over Europe in staging PGA EuroPro Tour events which were televised on Sky Sports.

The finishing hole is a classic in its own right: you have to negotiate the dog leg right before hoping you have saved one of your best iron shots of the day to carry the lake in front of the green and land safely on putting surface.

There are many highlights to a round, not least of which is the spectacular par-3 16th where you have to slot your tee-shot through a corridor of trees and a water hazard guarding the green. The walk from the 17th green to the 18th tee might

The Par 3 Course

he “Little Bristol” is a great facility for all golfers to enjoy. Beginners will enjoy the shortened version of a golf course to ease them into the game.

It is ideal for people of all ages and we particularly encourage families to come and enjoy what golf has to offer in a relaxed environment where you can play as much as you want at a pace that suits you. Experienced golfers can also benefit from using the layout to sharpen up their short game, the way any good player knows is the most efficient way of lowering their handicap or taking their game to the next level. The longest hole on the par 3 course measures only 151 yards and the course is set up like a “real” golf course with contoured greens and surrounds and is always kept in excellent condition.

Play is unlimited once you have paid your green fee at the Pro Shop. The great thing is the more people play the cheaper it becomes. A round is very reasonably priced in the first place because we want you to come and enjoy the experience. Clubs can be hired and the dress code is very relaxed so come along and get into golf at the Little Bristol. f you have never played at The Bristol before you are in for a treat. Make the most of your trip by learning about some of the pitfalls that lie in wait and how to avoid them as you follow our course tour courtesy of our Head PGA Professional, Andrew Etherington.

Hole 1, 551 yards, par 5

Hole 4, 369 yards, par 4

A tough opening drive â&#x20AC;&#x201C; with out of bounds left. The perfect tee shot is still down the left side!

A straightforward par 4 with slight dogleg right to left. Watch the ditch running across the centre of the fairway ready to punish poorly-hit tee shots.

Hole 2, 149yards, par 3 Short par 3. With a lake in front of the green and trees to avoid, it requires extra focus on where you want to hit the ball, not where you donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t!

Hole 5, 316 yards, par 4 A driveable par 4 for longer hitters. Greenside bunkers or a pond will catch poorlystruck or wayward drives.

Hole 6, 156 yards, par 3

A difficult dogleg right par 4 with out of bounds along the right. Knowing how far you hit the ball is crucial to this tee shot.

Strike the ball well as with a pond in front of the green loose shots will make a splash!

An undulating par 5 with danger lurking to the left, right and back of the green.

Finding the fairway here is tough as the hole slopes to the left all the way.

Hole 8, 409 yards, par 4

Hole 11, 226 yards, par 3

Par 4 dogleg left to right which lives up to its billing as stroke index 1. If youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;re too far back, lay up before the ditch in front of the green and rely on your short game to save par.

Long par 3. The ideal shot is to aim for the left-hand of the two bunkers guarding the front of the green.

Short par 4. Straight hitting is the key as the fairway runs direct to a deceptively deep green. The lake protecting the back of the green is waiting to swallow anything overhit.

Hole 9, 314 yards, par 4

Hitting the right side of the fairway is essential as the tees on the left can block your approach to the green.

Short par 4 with a double-tier green which leads to many a three putt. Check the flag position before striking your approach.

Hole 12, 444 yards, par 4 (par 5 off yellow tees)

Hole 14, 125 yards, par 3 The shortest hole on the course but accuracy is at a premium with watery danger short and right. Hole 15, 483 yards, par 5 Short par 5, the perfect drive would be slightly left of middle.

Our signature hole. You have to hit a long shot from an elevated tee over water through a narrow corridor of trees.

Delightful par 4 plays longer than it looks due to the elevated green.

This dogleg right is made tricky by a lake and two bunkers which protect the front of the green.

We also offer an expert custom fitting service, free of charge at our covered, floodlit driving range using our Vector ball flight machine.

There are many perceived barriers to golf: it’s too expensive, people don’t feel they’ll fit in; it’s not accessible for ladies, families or minority groups. Our approachable PGA coaching staff will instantly put you at your ease and fill you with enthusiasm for the sport and for being a part of the most progressive and forward-thinking club in the area. More than 15 million people watch The Open and The Masters on television but with only 4 million active golfers in the country there is an awful lot of untapped talent out there that we want to encourage.

Our golf academy is perfect for beginners, teaching the basics and providing the solid foundation required to be able to enjoy not only playing, but in due course improving, getting a handicap and then setting about lowering it. We are particularly proud that The Bristol has achieved GolfMark accreditation. GolfMark is a national scheme that identifies and recognises junior and beginner-friendly golf facilities, demonstrating our ‘open to all’ culture. Practice Facilities

he Bristol Golf Club has everything required for the focused golfer looking to better their game and lower their handicap.

We have a covered, floodlit driving range with quality mats. The outfield is large enough to be able to hit all clubs in your bag and has plenty of targets to aim at for focused practice. Baskets of 25, 50, 75 and 100 balls can be purchased through a variety of payment methods. Choose from: cash, loyalty card (become an Academy Member), or tokens, which can be purchased from the Pro Shop.

Last balls are 7.30pm on Tuesday-Friday and half an hour before last light on Saturday-Monday. The Range is open until last light in the summer. For those looking to work on their game around the green, there is also a pitching area with a practice bunker which is nearly 150 yards in length. Use of your own balls is required. There is also an excellent putting green which mirrors the fine surfaces to be found out on the course.

Juniors

he Bristol is a champion of Junior Golf and nothing gives us more pleasure than seeing a child develop a passion for our sport.

A good number of adults come to golf later in life, and most of those will tell you they wish they could have discovered the game in their formative years. A healthy outdoor pursuit that can be played individually or with groups of friends, it has rules and etiquette to consider, so teaches good habits and respect for others. Most of all, though, the joy of getting out on a beautiful course and quest for the perfect round never dulls and is one that can be enjoyed equally by a child, all the way through adult life well into retirement. So the sooner you get started the better!

Here at The Bristol, rest assured that your child is in good hands. In 2010, the club was awarded elite â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;GolfMarkâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; status for its work in encouraging youngsters and beginners to play the sport. The award, a national scheme which identifies and recognises junior and beginner-friendly golf facilities, has been given to fewer than one in six golf clubs in England.

Staff at The Bristol’s Crown Golf Academy worked for six months to achieve rigorous performance targets set out by GolfMark administrators the English Golf Union (EGU) and England Women’s Golf Association (EWGA).

The Bristol GC has a new dedicated Junior Committee to help their Junior Organiser oversee all the junior coaching and events at the club. The club has also created a pathway for juniors – to take them from complete beginners to getting a handicap so they can play on the main course in competitions and in Club teams. There is also the new opportunity for juniors to take advantage of free tuition from PGAqualified coaches once a month.

Ben Laing, The Bristol’s General Manager, said: “Golf teaches individuals not only a sport, but also life skills such as honesty and respect. We hope to produce committed and educated juniors, but above all, people who love the game. olfers of all ages and abilities are always welcome at The Bristol, and you donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have to be a member.

Pay and play green fees are available seven days a week on both the main course and the Little Bristol Par 3 Course. Although booking is advisable we will endeavour to get you a tee slot on the course as soon as possible. Please be advised that we do operate a pairing up policy whereby we book single players or twoballs in with other people on the same time slot. We offer discounts to visitors with the County Card and also have a special twilight rate for those able to play later in the day when the course is at its quietest.

Buggies can be pre-booked by calling 01454 456620. In common with other clubs we do insist on a minimum standard of smart casual dress at all times. Blue denim is not permitted and correct golf shoes must always be worn on the course. Although handicap certificates are not mandatory, we do prefer golfers to be of a sufficient standard for them to be able to enjoy their round and for them not to inconvenience other players when out on the course.

Societies

he ideal place for your golf day, The Bristol Golf Club combines a great golf course with great facilities in an outstanding setting.

The course provides an excellent challenge without being too severe for the more occasional golfer. With a par of 71 (from the normal tees) the course is gently undulating with several water features and some memorable par 3s.

What we don’t want is for you to feel you have to compromise. It is your day and we want you to enjoy it to the full. So if you don’t see exactly what you want, simply ask and we will do our utmost to a tailor a package to your requirements.

We have a variety of value packages to meet your needs such as tea or coffee and a bacon roll, followed by a round of golf and then finishing your day with a twocourse sit-down meal.

he Bristol Golf Club is located at Almondsbury, just north of Bristol and within easy reach of the M5 and M4 motorways. For satellite navigation purposes our postcode is BS10 7TP. From Bristol Take the A4018 north out of the city for around five miles. At the roundabout underneath the M5 motorway, take the first exit on to Cribbs Causeway/B4055. The entrance to the club is about 500 yards down this road on the right. From the North Take the M4 or M48/M4, leaving the motorway at Junction 20 to join the M5.
