TEAMWORK PLAYFULNESS SCNARIO CREATIVITY

Memories come from experiences. Memories of loved ones come from experiences of being together with loved ones: playing together, working together, hanging out together. Our installations focus on creating experiences of teamwork, playfulness and scenario. Inspired by the music box, the first idea focuses on creating memories relating to sound and music by inviting people and their loved ones to form a band. We propose using abandoned bicycle wheels to mimic the structure of music box. The experience of playing music together will become a memorial moment. The second idea, the “expression wall, focuses on promoting creativity and communication through expressing ideas with body movement, texts and space. The installation forms a 3D drawing pad. Patterns will be formed through repetition of sticks that can be pushed in or out. Communication forms between the front side and the back side. Contradiction forms between patterns created by body movement and real human figure. Through establishing these relationships with each other, these moments will become memorial.

Concept:

The sculpture was inspired by the idea that every one person is part of a larger people, just as every wave is part of an ocean. Like a wave, none of us are ever alone. As each and every wave is unique, so is each and every person but equally important part of the whole.

Form finding:

A single arched component is duplicated to create the contained space, then each component is rotated 5 degrees from the adjacent components to simulate the form of a wave. The modular design allows for members to be added or subtracted and rotated based on the location of each individual installation. Each person being memorialized will have their names etched into a component to be viewed from within its canopy. The sculpture’s modular nature allows for additional smaller sculptures to be suggested for other areas of the garden as either occupiable space or smaller, non occupiable viewing pieces.

Construction:

The sculpture would be fabricated out of laminated wood in order to create the arched form. Each member would be bolted to either a foundation or the building, then doweled to the adjacent components at the center of their rotation.

Dowels at the center of rotation inhibit components from moving

J-bolt secures the sculpture to the foundation

DESCRIPTION Knowing the background of Nupath, the designer imagined an object that will symbolize HOPE and STRENGTH. For this proposal, the concept used was a tree. Ever since, people have looked to trees to make sense of our lives, honoring their transcendental qualities in a variety of ways. The designer can say that people and trees have similar characteristics. There are times that we lost hope and feel down but we always stand up and face these challenges.

For almost 4 decades of helping and inspiring others, Nupath is like a tree that provides necessities and a sense of place to people. This sculpture will memorialize Nupath loved ones by recalling their contribution on how they nurture thousands of people to seek the courage to dream and accept the gift of high expectations.

DESCRIPTION Flower/ Plant Wood

Name of the Nupath’s member Material used is fiberglass reinforced polyester coated with assigned colors

The sculpture is installed with different colors namely: violet, orange, yellow, green, blue and red. It symbolizes that life is beautiful and colorful. The designer decided to place a small plant on the sculpture. She wanted to connect the sculpture to the people, to show that there is still a continuous process of nurturing, sense of responsibility and love to others. At the same time, it will also blend to the environment.

CONCEPT

MY CONCEPT IS TO CREATE A SENSORY, INCLUSIVE AND INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCE THROUGH A SCULPTURE THAT MEMORIALISES THE NUPATH FAMILY AND GROWS WITH THE COMMUNITY. BY USING THE IDEA OF A LIVING SCULPTURE I HAVE DESIGNED A GROWING WALL IN WHICH CLIMBING PLANTS CAN ENVELOPE AND MEMBERS OF THE NUPATH COMMUNITY CAN ATTACH PICTURES, SOUVENIRS, LOCKS AND PERSONAL POSSESSIONS TO; SO THAT THIS SCULPTURE WILL CONSTANTLY EVOLVE, CHANGE, GROW AND EVOKE A TRUE SENSE OF BELONGING. UNITY AND TOGETHERNESS ARE THE CENTRAL FOCAL POINT, SYMBOLIZED BY A DOUBLE-INTERLOCKED-MOBIUS STRIP DESIGN. A MOBIUS STRIP IS ONE WHICH ITS SURFACE IS CONTINUOUS, A SYMBOL FOR THE LIFELONG POSITIVITY THE NUPATH FAMILY BRINGS TO ITS MEMBERS. THIS WILL BE ATTACHED TO ITS BASE WITH A SPINNING MECHANISM TO ALLOW FOR BOTH HUMAN AND WIND INTERACTION AND MOVEMENT. IN TURN THIS WILL PRODUCE A DYNAMIC SENSE OF PLACE AROUND THE SITE ONCE THE SCULPTURE HAS BEEN MULTIPLIED. BEHIND EACH OF THE GROWING WALLS IS A WATER FEATURE THAT IS VISIBLE THROUGH ITS PERFORATIONS AND WILL BE AUDIBLE, THIS WILL EVOKE ANOTHER SENSE AND PRODUCE A LASTING MEMORY OF CALMNESS. COMMUNITY, GROWTH, TOGETHERNESS, MEMORIALIZATION, BELONGING, INCLUSIVE AND INTERACTIVE. ALL OF THESE ARE INTEGRAL IN THE NUPATH FAMILY AND ARE BOTH EXPRESSED AND EMBODIED WITHIN THIS SCULPTURE.

HOLDING MEMORIES S C U L P T U R E C O N C E P T BAREN AZISIA UNDIANA NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY BANDUNG, INDONESIA

HOLDING MEMORIES The main ideas if the sculpture is to represent love, togetherness, teamwork, and memories we’ve built in our life by holding our hands together. We grew up by helping each other, we need our families and friends to be with us, and they also need us to be with them. In the end, we can not live in solitude.

The sculpture is divided to many parts, as there are many types of people in our life. They have their own character, their own role. As the parts assembled, it creates a form.

The forms also creates a dynamic color represented in shades of brown. The varieties of people may create harmony in life.

design concept The concept of this design is to enable users to sit how ever they please, Whether its a short break or to enjoy a peaceful afternoon outside. the bench creates the opportunity to sit with a surface for writing/ eating, Another way users can enjoy the bench is by reclining offered by the 60 degree angle the frames the table surfaces. Construction is minimal and uses basic materials. Pressure treated wood boards for the benches sitting surfaces. light steel frame equal angles the will support either ends that will be bolted to a sub surface footing. the middle support of the bench will be a concrete block that metal plates will bolt to using anchor bolts. concrete provides flexibility in the design so planters can be added.

THE BENCH CAN BE PLACED ANY WHERE ON SITE. IT ALSO HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO USE ITS MODULARITY TO CREATE A ROW OF OUTDOOR SEATING. I BELIEVE THE BENCH SPEAKS TO THE SCULPTURE PART SEATING LOCATED AT THE ENTRANCE OF THE BUILDING BUT COULD ALSO MAYBE FIND A HOME IN SOME SHADE. THIS PLAN SUGGEST POTENTIAL LOCATIONS FOR THE MEMORIAL BENCH.
