Welcome from the Headmistress I am very sorry that we are not able to welcome you today in our usual way, but I am delighted that you have chosen to come and see Pipers Corner for yourself. Our Open Days are always busy and, although our students love to guide you, at this time we did not feel that we could bring them all in to show you around the school in person. I hope that at least having them speak to you through our audio clip links, will make up for this a little. I’ll be talking to you again later but, for the moment, enjoy your visit. Mrs Helen Ness-Gifford Headmsitress

A message from the Registrar We are delighted that you are considering Pipers Corner for your daughter and are looking forward to supporting you throughout the admissions process. If you have any queries or would like to register your daughter please call us on 01494 719810 or email us at registrar@piperscorner.co.uk. Mrs Zoe Galvin | Registrar Mrs Emily Harris | Assistant Registrar

Please follow one of three routes around the site. A strict one-way system is in place. • Pre-Prep | Reception – Year 2 • Prep | Year 3 – Year 6 • Senior School & Sixth Form | Year 7 – Year 13 Audio clips of students explaining their subject or department area will be available via QR codes throughout the tour. These can be accessed in this brochure. Simply open your smart phone camera and hover over the QR code. You will be taken to the corresponding audio file. Simply press play. Alternatively, a QR Code Reader App can be used. So that we can monitor the numbers on site – we would appreciate it if your visit lasted no longer than one hour and fifteen minutes today.

Please note that our playground equipment are out-of-bounds during Open Day. Children should be supervised at all times and are the responsibility of their parents. Once you reached the end of your tour, you will be directed to the Arts Centre where we ask you to drop off your lanyards and badges and exit the site back to the Car Park via the designated route.

Young Visitors Can you spot all of the stars around the school site? Keep count and tell us your answer when you leave. There’s a prize for every correct answer!

FAQs How big are the classes/sets? In Prep the average is 18. In Years 7-8 there are 18-22 but it varies year-on-year. In Years 9-11, subjects are setted into groups of 12-20 depending on the subject and how many students are taking it. In the Sixth Form there are usually between three and 10 students in each A Level group. How many GCSEs do students take at Pipers? Most take nine or 10 subjects but some take 11. Core subjects are Maths, English, Science (Trilogy – equivalent to two GCSEs or Triple – separate grades for each Science) and a Language subject. Students select their options in Year 9. How many subjects do students study in the Sixth Form? Most students take four AS subjects in Lower Sixth and then three A Levels in the Upper Sixth. What sort of choice is there at A Level? Students choose from more than 20 subjects – including all the core subjects as well as subjects such as Dance, PE, Music, Design Technology, Psychology and Sociology. Is Learning Support offered at Pipers Corner? Our Individual Learning Department offers advice and support across the school from Pre-Prep right through to the Sixth Form to promote understanding of learning development and provide interventions to support progression, confidence and self-esteem.

Admissions When should I register? We advise that girls are registered two years prior to the desired year of entry. Our registration form can be found on our website and in the prospectus in your Pipers Bag. The £150 registration fee is most easily paid by bank transfer – please contact the Admissions Team if you have any questions. When can girls join the School? Our natural entry points are Reception, Years 6 and 7 and the Lower Sixth. Each year we are also usually able to admit a few girls into Years 1-5. Places in Years 7-10 are subject to availability. Places are usually offered for the start of an academic year, but occasionally mid-year and mid-term places become available. What are your entry criteria? We look for a good-average ability level and make our offers in order of date of registration. How are girls assessed? At most entry points girls are assessed in Maths and English and there is no formal preparation required. All students for Prep entry and above will have an interview with the Headmistress or another senior member of staff. What Scholarship or Bursaries do you offer? At Year 7 entry we offer a range of Scholarship Awards (Academic, Art, Drama, Music and PE) as well as the Jessie Cross Award (a means-tested Award for a student currently studying at a state school). Scholarship Awards and means-tested bursaries are also available for entry into our Sixth Form. At Reception entry we also offer a means-tested Jessie Cross Foundation Award. 15
