Personal Statement

I had learned two courses in the 6th semester in my college years, namely Urban Green Space Planning and Design and Urban and Rural Landscape Strategy. After that, I began to be interested in Urban Design.

So during my postgraduate studies at the University of Nottingham, I studied Sustainable Urban Design. And in the design studio we interacted with the Peel Group and learned a lot of information about real estate in the UK.

Design is a process of continuous learning and improvement. I am glad that I can continue to improve my knowledge of things through learning, while achieving design results. At the same time I am keen to continue to improve my real estate and urban design skills in my future career.

Bridge

Divided into arch bridges and flat bridges, the bridges used to be made into arches to facilitate the passage of ships. After the opening of the land route, the flat and straight bridges were more convenient for land transportation. Today, two arched and flat bridges still remain parallel in the center of Sabei Village, one for pedestrians and one for vehicles. Some of the space under the bridge has become a resting space for villagers.

Food Culture

Danjia cake making

Every Spring Festival, families of the Danjia family will cook Danjia cakes to eat. The Danjia cake is cooked with the fat paste cooked by the backlogged goose plus the Danjia flour, which needs two hours of non-stop stirring and boiling.

Due to the tedious production process, many families will now choose to go to the market to buy ready-made Danjia cakes, most young people have lost this skill.

Riverbank Wedding Culture

Dragon Boat Custom of Danjia

The main performance is to use the boat to come and go repeatedly. At the time of marriage, the man will take a specific boat with gifts to pick up the woman to the man's family to worship heaven and earth, and then return to the mother's family for half a day after two days, called "back to the door". After paying respects to the man's family, eight days later, the woman's family will go to the man's family to return the gift, called "Hoho".

According to the villagers' recollection, there are still many brides picked up by boats in the previous generation. Nowadays, they are rarely picked up by boat, but usually drive around the island.

According to the villagers' description, there used to be dragon boat paddling activities at the Dragon Boat Festival, but now the waterway has become narrower, and the young people don't like to do this, so there is slowly no longer this custom.
