Reaching New Heights of
Championship Excellence ...
...takes
Everyone!
You may have seen a poster with the wording below. These words reflect that everyone working together as a team, can achieve success. The next few pages of our 2011 membership booklet document new heights of achievements (pg 1) that our student-athletes and coaches have attained. In addition, we recognize our loyal Pirate Club members for new records of giving (pg 9) and new attendance marks (pg 10). However, as we embark on a new decade in 2011, everyone must work together to meet a new challenge (pg 11) of an exponential increase in scholarship costs. To address this challenge and others, the ECU Educational Foundation (Pirate Club) has developed a new long range plan, including a new mission statement and new strategic goals (pg 12). To thank members who continue to give more and/or recruit new members, new incentives (pg 13) have been created. There’s a quote by Thomas Boswell that states “There is no substitute for excellence. Not even success.” So while our student-athletes, coaches and Pirate Nation can celebrate our recent success, let’s keep our vision for academic and athletic excellence… championship excellence! Everyone must continue to work together with passion, determination, commitment, pride and spirit – “The Pirate Way”.

As seen above, by FY 09-10 the combination of increased Pirate Club funding and the scholarship savings provided by the out-of-state waivers resulted in only a $76,000 difference to fully fund the scholarship budget. However, the loss of the out-of-state waiver in conjunction with rising tuition costs has resulted in higher scholarship expenses that have risen by over 39% in the current fiscal year. * denotes budgeted amounts for FY 10-11

New Long Range Plan: The Pirate Way – 2010-14
At its September 16, 2010 meeting, the Executive Committee of the ECU Educational Foundation (Pirate Club) approved a new long range plan for four years (2010-14). The final plan was the completion of nine months of meetings with a group comprised of current and former Executive Committee members, as well as, key staff liaisons representing the Pirate Club and Department of Athletics. The new long range plan includes an updated Mission Statement, as well as, four major strategic goals for the ECU Educational Foundation.

The mission of the East Carolina University Educational Foundation, Inc., d/b/a the Pirate Club, is to be the friend-raising and fund-raising arm of East Carolina University’s Division I athletics program, representing the highest principles of honesty and integrity. By conducting annual fund, endowment, and capital campaigns in support of student-athlete scholarships, athletic facility enhancements and other programmatic needs, the Pirate Club seeks to bring positive recognition to East Carolina University and the region it serves through a competitive athletics program.
Four Major Goals I. Fully fund all athletic scholarship requirements II. Grow the Endowment Fund III. Operate at the highest levels of honesty and integrity IV. Provide exceptional customer service “So if you chose the Pirate Way and seek the fortune’s hold, then in your veins will purple run and gold within your soul”. –Al Lockamy, ECU Alumni

New Incentives for 2011 110% Pirate Every day – in the classroom, on the field, and in life, we ask our Pirate student-athletes to give 110% in all they do in the pursuit of “championship excellence.” From practice to games, classes to exams, freshman to senior, orientation to graduation, you can see the commitment… to themselves, their coaches, professors, teammates, the University and our community. As scholarship and operating costs escalate each year, it is important that Pirate Club members respond with 110% effort again in 2011. Now is your opportunity to show you’re a “110% Pirate” and help the Pirate Club achieve its financial goal. This year, any donor, as outlined below, will receive a specially created DVD of the Pirate victory over NC State. 212˚ Passion At 211° water is hot. At 212°, it boils. With boiling water comes steam and steam can power a locomotive. Sometimes, the one extra degree of passion makes the difference. That passion is what makes the “Pirate Nation” the greatest fans in college athletics. It’s that passion that can propel our Pirates to victory in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium, as it did on October 16, 2010 versus the NC State Wolfpack in front of a record-breaking crowd of 50,410. We’re introducing a new degree of support for those Pirate Club members passionate about making a difference in 2011. This year, any donor who qualifies, as outlined below, will receive a one-of-a-kind aerial photo of the ECU vs. NC State game, and a specially-created DVD of the game. As an added bonus, if a member also recruits two (2) new members at $212 or more, their name will be put in a drawing for a special travel and game package for the South Carolina contest at Charlotte. So here’s how you qualify: For Aerial Photo/DVD: - increase your 2011 gift by $212 or more - join in 2011 at $212 or more For Bonus Drawing: - recruit two new members at $212 or more

Football Ticket Information Request for Seat Changes – If you would like to change your present
location, please complete the SEATING REQUEST on the back of the renewal application and indicate any special requests. The Pirate Club and Ticket Office will make every effort to honor special seating requests. If seating in the location requested is not available, the best available seats, based on priority points, will be assigned.
Request for Additional Seats – If you are requesting seats above last year’s total, indicate in the SEATING REQUEST on the back of the renewal application what your seating preference is. We cannot guarantee location adjacent to original seats (most times this is not possible). Therefore, designate whether you prefer to allocate all seats together in a new location, or assign new seats as close as possible to your current location. Additional SINGLE GAME tickets will not be adjoining season tickets. Decreasing Number of Tickets – If you are decreasing your previous year’s order, please indicate your seating preference in the SEATING REQUEST on the back of the renewal application. We reserve the right to move your seats to avoid single seats. This may result in a slight change of your seat location. Priority Number of Tickets – An individual annual gift level to the
Pirate Club (by April 1) determines the number of tickets allocated within priority sections. Please consult the Pirate Club gift level chart for the number of tickets at your giving level.
Group Requests – All group orders (season or single-game) will be assigned to the lowest priority ranked account. To request a season group order, all individuals should check the appropriate box (see SEATING REQUEST on the back of the renewal application) and list the remaining group member’s Pirate Numbers, separated by commas. Ticket Assignment – Season and single-game tickets are allocated based on five factors:
1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

New orders will be assigned in Pirate Club Priority Order to seats not reordered by the April 1st deadline. Note: All lower level seating is reserved for Pirate Club members only! All non-Pirate Club members will be seated in the upper deck sections of 215, 219, or 220. Football Parking Information Same Parking Assignment All donors who had parking for the 2010 football season may maintain their same parking space/lot provided they remain at the same giving level AND purchase season tickets by the April 1 deadline, and pay the required parking fee, if required. NOTE: Due to possible construction projects and the loss of some parking spaces, reassignment of some parking spaces may result. Location Change Requests Any requests for changing your parking location should be submitted in writing to the Pirate Club Office by April 1. This also applies to any donor who may have increased their 2011 annual gift. Elmhurst School Again in 2011, we will continue to offer our members parking at Elmhurst School. The Pirate Club will require all donors (except Sabre Society level) to pay a parking fee of $120. All donors who parked at Elmhurst School in 2010 will be able to maintain parking provided they renew at the same giving level and purchase season tickets by the April 1 deadline, and pay the $120 parking fee ($250 for RV permits). Any new requests for the limited remaining spaces, will be required to be at the Purple Pirate ($1,200 minimum) level. Please feel free to call the Pirate Club Office with any additional questions. Buccaneer Level ($400-$599) will park at the Carol Belk Building (CB) Lot in 2011, and must purchase a parking pass for $60. (Zones 1 & 2) Skull & Crossbones Level ($600 - $1,199) must purchase a parking pass for $60 in 2011, except those accounts parking at Elmhurst School who pay $120. Jolly Roger ($3,000 minimum) and Scholarship ($4,800 minimum)
level donors may purchase a second parking pass for $60 ($120 at Elmhurst School) provided they purchase a minimum of six (6) season tickets in their name. Parking location of the second pass will be based upon availability.
➤ Sabre Society Parking: All donors will qualify for two (2) reserved parking passes in a primary lot based upon the purchase of six (6) or more season tickets. ➤ Elmhurst RV Parking: Must meet the minimum requirements to park at Elmhurst School and purchase an RV parking pass ($250). All allocated spaces were sold out in 2010. ➤ Vip Lot RV Parking: Must meet the Skull & Crossbones minimum priority point total of 130 or more points. All allocated spaces were sold out in 2010, however, additional RV parking will be available at the Carol Belk Lots.
www.ecupirateclub.com 27
➤ ADA Parking: Currently, almost 90 parking spaces are being used to provide Pirate Club members with accessible parking. These spaces are located in the Gold Lot, Blue Lot, Purple Lot, White Lot and Elmhurst School. In 2011, we may expand to some spaces in the Lower Minges Lot. All ADA parking will be allocated based upon the combination of annual giving level and priority points. To qualify for ADA parking, appropriate documentation must be submitted to the Pirate Club Office including a copy of your State issued handicap placard. The handicapped individual must be in the vehicle to park and attendants may check for identification. ➤ 2011 Parking Fees: All Buccaneer and Skull & Crossbones level donors will be charged $60 for a parking pass this year. Elmhurst School parking will be $120 ($250 for RV parking) and all additional RV parking will be $200. ➤ New for 2011: Swashbuckler ($200 - $399) level donors may purchase parking for $120. Priority Point Plan Priority Point System
In an effort to more equitably serve Pirate Club members, a priority point system was developed and implemented in 1993 by the Executive Committee of the ECU Educational Foundation. The priority point system determines ranking for season ticket allocation and acquiring tickets to high demand events, such as away games at NC State and UNC, post-season tournaments and championships, bowl games and other special events. It is also used to assign Pirate Club benefits including priority parking and requests for seating upgrades prior to reassignment years.

Young Grad Young Graduate Program
Our Young Graduate program has seen significant growth over the past five years. The program consists of alumni who have graduated in the past three years and offers them the opportunity to join at a fraction of the normal cost.
Young Graduate Donation Levels
Year of Minimum Pirate Club Pirate Club Participation Contribution Contributes Gift Credit ________________________________________________________________
Year 1 $50 $150 $200 (Dec ‘10/May ‘11) ________________________________________________________________ Year 2 $75 $125 $200 (Dec ‘09/May ‘10) ________________________________________________________________ Year 3 (Dec ‘08/May ‘09)
$100
$100
$200
$50 is the minimum contribution. A Young Graduate member can donate any amount they wish and the Pirate Club will still match depending on which year you are in the program. Therefore, if a first-year Young Graduate donates $250 versus $50, that combined with the $150 gift credit, would qualify them for the Buccaneer level ($400). Young Graduate members qualify to purchase discounted season tickets for all sports. For the 2011 football season, all seating will be allocated in section 19.

Donors can be expelled as a member of the ECU Educational Foundation (Pirate Club) and will forfeit all benefits and privileges (including the right to receive priority season tickets and parking privileges (including the right to receive priority season tickets and parking at specified athletic events) until the end of the periods of disassociation and subsequent reinstatement by the ECU Educational Foundation (Pirate Club).
Tax Information The East Carolina University Educational Foundation, Inc. is a not-forprofit, 501(c)(3) corporation domiciled in the State of North Carolina. Our Federal Tax ID# is 56-606-1192. A contribution that entitles the donor to purchase tickets is 80% deductible as a charitable contribution for income tax purposes, as per IRS Code, Section 170 (1). In addition, the IRS has ruled the 80% portion is only tax deductible as a contribution, to the extent that it exceeds the value of any additional benefits the donor may have received. For 100% tax deductibility of a contribution, a donor must decline in writing the right to receive any benefits at the time the contribution is made. Consult your tax advisor for more information. 速
