Arjeplog & Arvidsjaur
The event business is growing
In Arvidsjaur, events have expanded enormously in recent years. One of the latest up comers on the market is Triple X Adventures, based in Akkavare and offers a variety of activities.
- Our main idea was to focus on groups and maintaining direct contact with the customers, says Roberth Möller, one of the co-owners. They have made large investments in several new snowmobiles and in the snowmobiles previously owned by Clarion. Triple X Adventures offer any kind of snowmobile ride, tailored after requests. By collaborating with other entrepreneurs, they can also offer a combination of activities such as dog sledding, moose safari or overnight stays in the Arjeplog Iglootel.
We focus on high quality and service. Most of our long weekend charter guests comes from Germany, where Tobias Stöhr (co-owner) is based and where we are marketing us the most. Janina Bienkowski, also co-owner and originally from Germany, is resident in Sweden since 1,5 years and has experienced six winter seasons working here. - I manage all the bookings in the company and I am also working halftime at Daimler proving ground, Janina says. Photo: Private Family Wife and two children. Home A villa in Arvidsjaur. Job Self-employed; owner of a Restaurant (Rolle’s Krog), Camping and ski resort: Vittjåkk. Best thing with my job It is creative and developing. To work with service for guests and customers is always a process. To do my best to meet the customers expectations is both fun and challenging. When it works and I get satisfied customers then it is definitively the best part of working as an entrepreneur. Spare time activities As self-employed, leisure time is a shortcoming. You could even say that spare time becomes part of the job. As self-employed, you have chosen to work with something you like to do. When I have some spare-time; music, fly fishing and golf are the interests which are both challenging and fun to exercise. Favourite food I have worked as a chef most of my working life so it has been a whole lot of food. For me, food is part of an overall experience. There can be different kind of dinners; out in the woods or at a restaurant or another event. Personally, I enjoy Swedish home cooking the most, preferably a tasty meat stew prepared with care and consumed with good friends. Motto To do my best and reflect on what’s happening, how did it happen, how can I develop, what can I do better, why did that happen?

Th is wee k s lo ca l: R ol a n d S a n dg re n, 50. O w ner of R ol le’s k ro g a n d en trep re neu r at Vit tjåk k sk i re so rt. Dream car/Current car I have no interest in cars. They shall be practical and functional. Right now, I drive a Volvo XC 60. Over the years I have owned several cars, and when I think about it, Volvo has worked the best for me. Future hopes Right now, I’m in the process of developing my company. Arvidsjaur kommun is selling the ski resort and campsite Vittjåkk. I am hoping to be the new owner and then I will try to develop Vittjåkk to the gem it is and make it a hub for tourists and visitors in Swedish Lapland. Special skills Except that I can roll on my belly, the music and to be able to play different instruments is an interest that I have. I am not an expert but it´s a skill I want to improve even more. What do you think that other people says or think about you The positive side of reaching 50 years of age is the perspective you get on life. I am not so bothered about other peoples opinions, but of course it is nice with good words. From a working perspective, it is a completely different matter. ”Rolle’s krog” is one of my trademarks and I contemplate carefully what people say. What can you improve about yourself I could be more structured and not do things just on impulse. Work less. Important in life Naturally, family is the most important thing in life. That my wife and children are healthy and prosperous. Without family life is not really worthwhile.
Imagine drifting at more than 200 km/h in total safety round an F1 circuit ... ... reproduced full-scale on a frozen lake,

”Hot seat”
Do you have a motto in life In the end we only regret the chances we didn’t take. What’s important in life My family and friends. Spare time activities I like to travel, to discover new places and to learn about foreign cultures. When I am at home, I like to spend time with my family and friends or to just relax with a good book.

Issues with NextJet flights - is there a solution? I have met Eric Gallardo, Manager of Laponie Ice Driving. He is troubled about the flights between Stockholm Arlanda and Arvidsjaur. But he is also determined to do something about it, and has some suggestion for improvement. First of all he gave me some examples of what has happened: - Unacceptable flight schedules for passengers: often incompatible with international connections, requiring long waits in Stockholm or nights in transit (both on inward and outward flights). - Changing timetable in the middle of December gives disastrous effects. - Flight schedules and frequencies “inconsistent, illogical and irregular” from one day to the next, one week to the next, one month to the next. - Luggage problems: The evening flights from Arlanda are often full and the luggage arrives the next day with the morning flight. Without notifying the passengers in advance. That is a disaster for our two-day guests to arrive at their destination without extra clothing and in some case their medication. - Frequent flight delays or cancellations. Now and then the passengers arrive in Arjeplog at two, three or four in the morning instead of around ten-eleven in the evening. Mr. Gallardo thinks that it works fine when they fly to Luleå instead, but it is a too long drive to Arjeplog. He has found a solution, but he needs others to cooperate:
Eric Gallardo, Laponie (Lapland) Ice Driving “A possible alternative with a private flight solution has been identified which would consist of the use of a 20-seat private plane. This would ensure a daily connection between Arvidsjaur and Arlanda at a comfortable time schedule with an additional connection each Monday and Friday. The seats would be fully flexible (ie, name/date/ time changeable). To make this possible, the operator need to be secured with an advance order for 6,000 “one way” seats. (Today Laponie Ice Driving is ready to confirm 700). Bearing in mind these conditions, Laponie Ice Driving would like to gather car industry companies or event companies which are also not happy with the NextJet flights and that would be ready to pre-book seats (for the 2019 winter season). Please get in touch with Eric Gallardo at: eg@holdec.com.”
The Manager at Arvidsjaur airport Ralf Lundberg, answers: - The regular air traffic (Arvidsjaur - Arlanda) is today procured by the Swedish Transport Administration. For a while we have experienced many traffic interruptions (delays, canceled trips and left luggage). Malfunctions reported to the Swedish Transport Administration and the airline operator on the line. We have invited the Swedish Transport Administration to a meeting in February to give them a better picture of the problem and how important air traffic is for the region. We hope that we, together with the Swedish Transport Administration, will find a solution to the shortcomings that exist today.
We experience huge amounts of snow this winter. Unusually much even for this region.

Dog sledding - a popular activity
There are several dog sledding companies that are active in Arjeplog kommun. Meet one of them, temporarily located in Mellanström.
Johanna Cederlund and Konstantin Bröder at “White horizon” recently settled in the municipality with their eleven dogs. Johanna grew up in Hemavan and is used to a life with polar dogs. She then moved to the north of Sweden and has lived in Laanavara for the past six years. Konstantin grew up in Germany and moved to Finland to work with dog sledding and then to the north of Sweden where he met Johanna. Now they offer different kinds of adventures around Mellanström since they think that it is a good terrain for the dogs. Me and my friend Monika were invited to join a “Musher workshop” for a couple of hours. First, we met the dogs all Alaskan Huskies. They were very friendly and curious. - Alaskan huskies are strong, fast, friendly, sociable and withstands the cold, says Johanna. Why did you choose to work with dog sledding? - The life that comes with it made our decision, says Johanna. For now, we do not have so many dogs so we can also have other jobs. We both work full time at Bosch Vaitoudden this winter season. Do you plan to increase the number of dogs? - We plan to have 18-20 eventually, then one of us can have another job beside.
How do you choose the leading dogs? - We prefer if they are small, strongly motivated and manage to lead the other dogs. They should be attentive to commands but also independent. After Johanna and Konstantin had informed us about the dogs and dog sledding they chose six dogs for us to run. Honestly, I did not think that it was possible for anyone else than the owner to drive, but I was proved wrong. It worked perfectly fine and was quite fun to slide silently on the snow. With Johanna on the sled of course, just in case… Read more about the company: whitehorizon.se
Johanna and Konstantin with Katla. How many hours do you spend with the dogs each day? - 4-5 hours depending on the season. They run approximately 600-700 kilometres each month, says Konstantin. Although they have one or two days off every week. A normal day they consume 5000-6000 calories, so they eat a lot. We cook 10 litres of soup with 1,6 kilos meat in it twice a day, plus the dry food that we mix. During the summer the dogs only play and go for walks. It is often too warm for them to run and it must be colder than 12 degrees Celsius before we train them properly. - Normally you should keep a sled dog working within 40 degrees (for example +10 to -30), says Johanna.
The youngest dog, a six month old Alaskan huskie called Krut is used to get the claws cut every week. - We train our dogs early to stay calm and safe when we handle them, says Johanna.
Okey, can we go now? The dogs are eager to start running.
Monika Juhlin is managing the sled easy and safe by her self. Johanna is sitting on the sled for safety reasons and to give instructions. 7
