Arjeplog & Arvidsjaur
IGLOOTEL opening soon!
The Iglootel of this year is soon opening, with an impressive 900 m2 area built entirely from snow and ice from lake Hornavan. You find it by Kraja Hotel, just one kilometre west of Arjeplog town. With amazing lighting and sculptured details, it is worth a visit. This year´s theme is Climate change, manifesting itself in different ways, such as the ten small sleeping-igloos each symbolising an endangered species of animal, with abstract ornaments on the walls. Various QR-codes will give you more information about each room. The ice bar has been equipped with a rising temperature curve, symbolising the global warming from 1880 to 2020. There is also a spa area, a gaming room for your enjoyment and two event rooms

Mayor Britta Flinkfeldt Arjeplog We, the Mayors of Arjeplog and Arvidsjaur, are happy to welcome you all to yet another season of automotive winter testing! You are important to us. As you probably already have noticed, our municipalities (or “kommuner”, as we say) are huge when it comes to area but tiny when it comes to population. This is a challenge as we tax the few thousands permanent residents only, but still has to provide schools, care of the elderly, infrastructure, and more.
Mona Piribauer PUBLICATION SCHEDULE XPRESS 2018 Release dates 25 January 8 February 22 February 8 March
Script stop 22 January 5 February 19 February 5 March
The magazine is published bi-weekly on Thursdays this season. It will be available in both municipalities in several shops, the tourist offices, Arvidsjaur airport and several proving grounds - or pick it up in the “Arjeplogarn” mailbox outside “Fjällgården Guns and Roses” in Arjeplog.
We have a long history spanning 10,000 years back to hunters and gatherers via the mining and forest industries to today’s prime test bed of high-tech systems, parts and vehicles. Now, we are the winter testing capitol of the world. You come here and you bring wealth, stories, expertise, inventions and ideas that helps our region develop. Thanks to you, we have more entrepreneurs, more restaurants and more hotels than other municipalities of our size. We respect your work ethics and admire the grit you display during your stay with us. Still, we hope that you get some time off to see the northern lights, exercise in our skiing tracks, enjoy our downhill slopes, have some fun on a snowmobile, and to learn more about our culture. When you are in Arjeplog and Arvidsjaur, you are also in Sápmi, the land of the indigenous Sámi people that still engage in semi-nomadic reindeer herding and other traditional livelihoods. 2
Mayor Lotta Åman Arvidsjaur We would love to hear from you. We do not always have the monetary means to make evertything perfect in an instant, but we sure are proud to say that we are professional hosts dedicated to make your time with us the most productive and enjoyable stay possible. We invite you to share our arctic lifestyle. Welcome! //Britta Flinkfeldt, Mayor and Chair of the Executive Committee in Arjeplog //Lotta Åman, Mayor and Chair of the Executive Committee in Arvidsjaur

Some advice for the snowmobile tours Please respect wildlife, vegetation and other humans when you are out on the snowmobile. Here are some guidelines: * STOP - Before crossing a road, stop and let any passengers on the snowmobile (or in the sled) walk across. * TRAIL MARKINGS - Snowmobile trails are marked with red wooden crosses. Stay on the right hand side of the trail. Make sure you are on a snowmobile trail and not on a ski track (forbidden for snowmobiles). * FOREST PLANTATIONS- Do not cross young woodlands or farmland if you are not sure it can be done without any risk of damaging the plants and young trees. Trees must measure at least two meters above the snow level, then it´s okey to drive. * RESPECT HUMANS AND ANIMALS - According to the Traffic Regulations, you should adjust your route and speed so that people and animals are not disturbed and so that damage to the land’s soil or vegetation is avoided. Try not to drive near reindeer if possible. If you happen to end up close by, pass at low speed so you will not stress them, one snowmobile at a time. * SNOWMOBILE PROHIBITION AREAS: - Arvidsjaur towncentre - Within this area, you can only drive on the routes marked on the map (see arvidsjaur. se/skoter). Driving snowmobiles on electric light tracks is prohibited. Speed on permitted tracks within the banned area is usually 50 km /h unless otherwise stated.
- National parks and nature reserves, such as Pieljekaise and Märkberget. - There are permanent forbidden areas and there are areas you are asked to avoid. Please read more about the areas at: arjeplog.se/experiencing & Do/ Nature & recreation /Snowmobiling arvidsjaur.se/skoter Use the translation (”översätt”)
- Vittjåkk- It is forbidden to drive motorized vehicles within the area around Vittjåkk. Exceptions apply only to marked tracks.
There are many miles of prepared tracks for snowmobiles in both municipalities. We can thank several non-profit snowmobile associations for those.
- Arvidsjaur firing range - It is strictly forbidden to drive motorised vehicles within the entire area.
Keep in mind that you are required to find out what regulations that is valid when you are in the nature! 5

Th is wee k s lo ca l: H a n n a K a rl be rg , 27. R ec ep ti on is t at H o te l Ly k ta n Family Partner Alexander, mother, father, sister. Home Arjeplog. Job Receptionist at Hotel Lyktan. Best thing with my job I am not just receptionist, I do so many other things as part of the job too, so I would say it is the variation of tasks and my lovely colleagues. The best place to be Arjeplog, no matter where - but life in Arjeplog municipality is the best. Spare time activities Like to be out with the snowmobile and in the cottage in ”spring-winter” and summer, meet friends, travel.
Current car Volvo 740, BMW 530. Dream car I have a list of 7 cars that I want, but the one on the top is probably an Audi R8. Motto Do not care about what others belive and think, be yourself. Future hopes To have a good life and good health for me and my family. Dream vacation New Zealand. What do you think that other people says or think about you Those who do not know me might say I’m very quiet and withdrawn, but those who know me would probably say the opposite.
Favourite food My fathers plank steak, but also arctic char with potatoes.
Did you know that... * Vehicle testing operations in Arjeplog and Arvidsjaur have a turnover of approximately 1.2 billion SEK each year. * If a meeting motorist flashes his/her lights at you, it means a danger is ahead of you. It could be moose, reindeer or some other traffic obstacle. * Black plastic bags hanging along the road is a warning sign for reindeers slow down. * Shell in Arjeplog and Circle K (earlier Statoil) in Arvidsjaur have both closed down their shops due to poor sales, but you can still fill up the gas at both stations.
Tell us something that nobody knows about you I’ve always had a lot of self-confidence, always thought that I can do everything even if I have not even tested things. I thought I was really good at maths and drawing, but now I’ve realized that I’m not god at math and I’m not the best to draw. What can you improve about yourself To take criticism better. Special skills I do not drink coffee myself but apparently I make the best coffee at work, and as well my scrambled eggs and boiled eggs are much appreciated. Important in life My family and friends.
* When you meet a truck ploughing
a narrow road, you must: Stop at the nearest meeting point (“M” sign) or parking area (“P” sign), or reverse to nearest one. Narrow roads are not wide enough for you to meet, and you must give way to the truck. If you end up behind a snowplough, the driver has probably noticed you and will let you pass as soon as possible. * It is very dangerous to walk on TESTING FACILITIES for rent the roads when the air is swirling Both short-term & long-term with snow and visibility is seriously reduced.
