If you have wondered: “How do the they live the families who let out their homes?” - Well, here is the answer! To let out your home for several weeks during the winter, is more common than one can believe - in Arjeplog anyway! The first weekend in January is the big “moving out weekend” when many families freely leave their homes in favour of unknown guests.

Xpress Arjeplog is going to meet different families in every Magazine, that live in various ways when they let out their houses. themselves and their parents let out their homes. Since the winter can be very cold, you can’t live especially primitive. So every family has to find their own place to stay that works for them.

The first family to be presented here is Ann-Sofi and Kaj Törnberg with their two sons William and Filip, 9 and 5 years old. They have a house on “Öberget” - an area were many houses is let out during this season.

Is it true what many families say, that they are coming closer together when they do not live in their house? - Yes, we do a lot of activities together and have more time for each other. Some weekends we go to our cabin close to Hornavan in ”Rossne”. That is a great place to be, Ann-Sofi says.

What have I done? The decission to buy “Xpress Arjeplog” and “Arjeplogar’n” and leave a permanent job, was not easy to take! Paper Magazines are rare today and it is easy to advertise in digital social medias nowadays. But all positive respons from everywhere - that told me that the paper Magazines in Arjeplog are important made me take the step into the unknown, so here we are... How do you live when you let out your house?

-We live in a flat upstairs in a private house, close to home. We rent the flat on a yearly basis which is comfortable since we can leave all our belongings and we know that we have everything we need. It is a kitchen and one room with several corners for all our beds.
For how long have you let out your house? - Both our parents rented out their houses, and we have done it from the beginning with our house, so we are used to it since we were kids.
How do you prepare the house for the renting period? - Nowadays we do not take away so many things. We clean the house properly but we leave photos on the walls and things in the drawers. Only personal stuff is taken away. A wardrobe in each room is empty for our guests.
What do you think about living in the flat, Filip and William? - It is better to be home in the house, or in the cabin in Rossne…

It is still a free Magazine, that is published in English first of all for all our foreign guests during the winter season. But anyone can read it offcourse! Xpress Arjeplog has met André Karlberg who has bought a carrier for his ski equipment, that originally was made for carrying surfboards in the US. He uses it when he is riding his bike to go to the ski track. - ”I don’t have to start my car to drive a few minutes to the 4
tracks, I just take the bike. Good for me and good for the environment”, André says. The device is mounted by being screwed into the frame of the bike.

tittle tattle * It is common that visitors in Arjeplog (and Sweden as well) want’s to try out local specialties when it comes to food. A couple of years ago there were a local girl who saw a car standing at the carpark outside “Coop”, and it was filled with foreign cartesters. She saw - to her horror - that they were going to open a can of “Surströmming” (fermented baltic herring) inside the car. She ran and open the door, and was able to stop them in the last second! Anyone that has opened such a can knows that you should do it outside, since the smell is pretty awful...
* Recently there have been several emergency actions in the area, due to persons missing or lost in the woods or mountains near Arjeplog. So please be careful if you are going out in the nature, and be sure to tell someone where you are going and how long you plan to be away. And use a telephone that works even when your are far from the roads. And of course, make sure that you know the emergencynumber; 112!
Arjeplog Filmfestival Soon it is time for this years “Filmfestival” in Arjeplog. It is an anually happening that attracts lots of people from different parts of the country. This year there are several famous Swedish actors that will participate and talk about their films. The festival takes place February 10 - 12, and the films will be shown at the cinema and at the Silvermuseum. - “More information will be released soon”, Stina Paaval announces.
